Abstract

This study explores developing and implementing a web-based Management Information System (MIS) tailored for SMK Negeri 2 Banda Aceh, a vocational school in Indonesia. To enhance administrative efficiency and address unique challenges in vocational education, the system centralizes tasks such as attendance tracking, academic record management, and internship coordination. Employing the waterfall model, this project proceeded through structured phases, including requirements analysis, system design, development, and usability testing. A sample of 50 users, comprising students, teachers, and school operators, evaluated the system based on usability, interface design, and information clarity through a questionnaire, yielding high satisfaction scores. Reliability testing and correlation analysis revealed strong internal consistency across questionnaire items and identified critical factors influencing user satisfaction, such as interface appeal and effective error resolution. The results indicate that the system meets core user needs and contributes to a streamlined, user-friendly school management process. With implementation planning, user training, and ongoing maintenance, this MIS offers a sustainable solution that can serve as a model for vocational schools across Indonesia, showcasing the potential of digital solutions in advancing educational administration and supporting career readiness in vocational education.

Abstract

The Correlated Topic Model (CTM) is a widely used approach for topic modelling that accounts for correlations among topics. This study investigates the effects of hyperparameter tuning on the model's ability to extract meaningful themes from a corpus of unstructured text. Key hyperparameters examined include learning rates (0.1, 0.01, 0.001), the number of topics (3, 5, 7, 10), and the number of top words (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 80, 100). The Adam optimizer was used for model training, and performance was evaluated using the coherence score (c_v), a metric that assesses the interpretability and coherence of the generated topics. The dataset comprised 100 articles, and results were visualized using line plots and heatmaps to highlight performance trends. The highest coherence score of 0.803 was achieved with three topics and 10 top words. The findings demonstrate that fine-tuning hyperparameters significantly improves the model's ability to generate coherent and interpretable topics, resulting in more accurate and insightful outcomes. This research underscores the importance of parameter optimization in enhancing the effectiveness of CTM for topic modelling applications.

Abstract

Many schools face difficulties in implementing science education through a practicum due to insufficient laboratory facilities and bureaucratic constraints, which hinder students' hands-on learning. To address such constraints, a new web-based remote laboratory, Remote STEM (R-STEM) platform, was introduced by the STEM Research Center. This study explores using R-STEM in learning magnetic induction using the ISLE-based STEM approach with Student Activity Sheets (LKPD) to enhance engagement. A mixed-methods research design was utilized, and 72 high school students underwent a set of experiments according to the ISLE cycle, from observations to pattern detection, explanation, predictions, and experimentation verification. The results show a high rate of students’ understanding of magnetic induction, with a score in LKPD evaluation at 84%, a rate of implementation at 93%, and a score in learning activity alignment at 78.5%. In addition, pretest and posttest tests showed a learning outcome increase by 71%. This study contributes to the broader scientific educational community by demonstrating that remote laboratories can be effective in enhancing STEM learning, particularly in schools with fewer laboratory facilities.

Abstract

Aceh is an exceptional region in Indonesia characterized by significant biodiversity and abundant natural wealth. Despite these numerous benefits, there is limited information regarding the potential of biodiversity in this region. Therefore, this research aimed to design and develop Website and Android-based applications to facilitate access to information regarding biodiversity in Aceh. In the development process, the Waterfall method was used, and the applications consisted of two main components, namely the back-end and the front-end. The users were divided into three categories, including contributors, verificators, and admins. After the development was complete, functionality testing was conducted using the black box method, and usability was examined using the Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ). The results of functionality testing showed that both applications operate efficiently, thereby providing users with a satisfying experience when accessing information about Aceh biodiversity. The usability score was approximately 7 for Website-based and 6 for Android-based applications, showing a high level of usability.
