Abstract

Several acne therapy modalities have been widely used to eradicate Propionibacterium acnes, the causative pathogen of acne. However, it cannot treat acne optimally and has adverse effects. Kelakai (Stenochlaena palustris) possesses antibacterial activity. Based on the antibacterial activity of S. palustris, its leaf can be utilized as an alternative acne therapeutic substance. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of the ethanol extract of S. palustris leaf on P. acnes. The extraction of S. palustris was performed using maceration with 96% ethanol. The antibiotic activity test was divided into five groups: a positive control group (Clindamycin), a negative control group (Propionibacterium acnesATCC®6919), and three test groups with concentration gradients. Phytochemical analysis was positive for the identification of saponins, tannins, alkaloids, steroids and flavonoids. The inhibitory diameter of P. acnes at 75% extraction concentration was closest to that of the positive control group and has inhibition zone of diameter 13,99 + 0,77 (strong inhibition) indicating its effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of P. acnes. Based on the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of S. palustris leaf, the leaf extract has the potential to be used as a medicinal substance in acne therapy.

Abstract

Abstract: In its development, the curriculum of Islamic boarding schools must be able to prepare the students to take part and live in society, one of which is through entrepreneurship. This program aims to increase student’s knowledge and skills in making natura based soap, and to inspire them on entrepreneurship ideas. Seventy-six high-school students participated. The methods used were lecturing, practical training, and evaluation. The results showed a significant increase in students' knowledge, with an increase in the average score from 70.5 to 95.61 point (increased by 25,11%). Evaluation through quiz method shows that the information was well received by participants. This program improves student’s soft skills and hard skills in the production of natural based soap.

Abstract

This study aims to isolate collagen from the scales of snakehead fish (Channa sp.) and evaluate the antioxidant activity of the extracted collagen. Collagen was isolated using a 0.5 M acetic acid method, involving dissolution and purification procedures. The collagen extract was characterized using FTIR analysis to detect functional groups and phytochemical tests to identify active compounds. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method to measure free radical scavenging potential. The results indicated that the collagen extract from snakehead fish scales contains bioactive compounds with significant antioxidant activity. The IC₅₀ values demonstrated a strong ability to neutralize free radicals, showing higher potency than the control. FTIR analysis detected hydroxyl (3330.21 cm⁻¹), methyl (2111.83 cm⁻¹), and carbonyl (1635.85 cm⁻¹) groups as characteristic phytochemical components of Channa sp. collagen extract. The IC₅₀ values at different concentrations were classified as very strong at low concentrations (25%), strong at moderate concentrations (50%), and moderate at higher concentrations (75%). The antioxidant activity of snakehead fish scale extract was very strong at lower concentrations but decreased as the concentration increased

Abstract

Environmental sanitation issues and low immunity levels among students remain major challenges in Islamic boarding schools located in rural swamp areas. This community service program, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) through the BIMA Grant Scheme, aimed to address these problems at Darul Falah Putri Islamic Boarding School, Barito Kuala. The activities consisted of (1) counseling and training on household waste management through ecoenzyme production, and (2) counseling and training on the utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) for traditional jamu preparation as an immune booster. Methods included interactive lectures, group discussions, practical demonstrations, and evaluations through pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed a significant increase in students’ knowledge and skills, with average test scores improving from 75 to 90 for ecoenzyme training and from 70 to 85 for jamu preparation. Students successfully produced ecoenzyme fermentation products and ready-to-drink herbal jamu, demonstrating the applicability of local wisdom in promoting health and sustainability. This program not only enhanced students’ awareness and competencies but also contributed to fostering a culture of healthy living and environmental responsibility within the pesantren community.

Abstract

Rumpiang Village is located in the northern part of Beruntung Baru District, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Province. This area is located in a low-lying plain, so most of the population works in sectors related to water and swamps. The plain of Rumpiang Village is a green area where rice fields are located, and many wild plants grow around the village, such as nipa palms, water mimosa leaves, water jasmine, water spinach, weeds, and other wetland plants. However, this local wisdom has not been utilized to its full potential due to the limited knowledge of rural communities regarding natural ingredient plants. Therefore, there is a need for education on the utilization of Nypa fruticans Wurmb plants to become the village's flagship product. The method for implementing this activity uses a participatory approach, namely socialization. Socialization to increase public knowledge, measured by pre-tests and post-tests to assess participants' initial knowledge. PKK cadres also received education regarding the halal product registration process and the siHALAL website. Knowledge regarding marketing strategies is still very limited, with an average score of 60, indicating a need for further education and guidance for PKK cadres.
