Abstract

Abstract This community service activity is a social humanities-based community service activity that focuses on continuous English language training. The purpose of this community service activity is to transfer knowledge related to language, especially English to improve human resources, especially the community around the tourist village so that they are able to have language skills as a basic capital to communicate globally. The implementation of this community service activity is carried out for three years or multi years with the hope of being able to contribute to supporting community empowerment in promoting the potential of education-based tourism villages using national and foreign languages, namely English. Thus, the community has readiness when faced with guests or visitors from other countries. This language training activity was carried out during June in 2023 by providing basic English training and English for special purposes, namely tourism based on the potential of the Cisaat tourism village which focuses on the culinary of Cisaat village. Keywords: training, English, communication, culinary, potential, tourism village Abstrak Kegiatan pengabdian Masyarakat ini merupakan kegiatan pengabdian Masyarakat berbasis sosial humaniora yang berfokus pada pelatihan bahasa Inggris secara berkesinambungan. Adapun tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian Masyarakat ini adalah untuk mentransfer ilmu pengetahuan terkait kebahasaan, khususnya bahasa Inggris untuk peningkatan sumber daya manusia, khususnya Masyarakat di sekitar desa wisata agar mampu memiliki keterampilan bahasa sebagai modal dasar berkomunikasi secara global. Adapun pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan selama tiga tahun atau multi years dengan harapan mampu berkontribusi dalam mendukung pemberdayaan Masyarakat mempromosikan potensi desa wisata berbasis edukasi menggunakan bahasa nasional maupun bahasa asing, yaitu bahasa Inggris. Dengan demikian, Masyarakat memiliki kesiapan ketika dihadapkan dengan tamu atau para pengunjung dari negara lain. Kegiatan pelatihan bahasa ini dilaksanakan selama bulan Juni pada tahun 2023 dengan memberikan pelatihan bahasa Inggris dasar serta bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan khusus, yaitu pariwisata dengan berbasis potensi desa wisata Cisaat yang berfokus pada kuliner desa Cisaat. Abstract

This study explores the language change that occurred in two Indonesian demonstrative words, “demikian” and “begitu”, which are synonyms. As synonyms, both have similar linguistic functions. This study examines the possibility of language change influenced by synonymy through the diffusion of their linguistic functions. The literature works used in this study are Hikayat Abdullah (1842), Azab dan Sengsara (1920), and Cantik Itu Luka (2002), covering a period of 160 years. The words ‘demikian’ and ‘begitu’ were collected by using AntConc and were classified based on the level of change that occurred. The diffusion of their linguistic functions is then supported by quantitative data in the form of frequency. The analysis found that the changes in the word ‘demikian’ are influenced by its synonym: the word ‘begitu’. Consequently, in the 21st century, the word ‘demikian’ has become similar to its synonym. This study may be useful to portray how language change occurs in synonyms as a specific linguistic category. It can also point out the direction of language change which can be useful for further discussion on language policy.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of language maintenance at Istana Dalam Loka, focusing on the role of various domains in both physical and virtual access to the site. Utilizing data from Google Search and Google Trends, the research analyzes the prevalence of different domains—tourism, historical and cultural, religious, entertainment, and educational—within the virtual landscape, and compares them to their physical reality. The findings indicate that tourism is the most dominant domain, both in physical and virtual contexts, followed by historical and cultural activities. However, despite the stream of external influences through tourism, the study reveals a strong resistance to language and cultural differences, as the local Sumbawa culture remains deeply rooted in activities conducted at Istana Dalam Loka. This cultural resistance suggests that Sumbawa language and cultures are being maintained through a process similar to a sociolinguistic diversity of 'melting pot,' where diverse languages and cultures are integrated to the Sumbawa language and culture. The study concludes that while virtual access offers an alternative platform for language contact and multicultural engagement, it is primarily locals who both produce and consume content related to Istana Dalam Loka in virtual access. It also ensures the continued dominance of Sumbawa language and culture.

Abstract

Literasi ekologi menjadi salah satu aspek penting dalam pendidikan, terutama dalam membentuk kesadaran anak-anak untuk peduli terhadap lingkungan. Dalam era modern ini, perubahan iklim dan kerusakan lingkungan menjadi isu global yang membutuhkan perhatian khusus. Isu tentang lingkungan ini juga tidak sedikit dibahas melalui berbagai media sosial sebagai perantara dalam mengedukasi masyarakat. Salah satu peran media sosial  dalam ikut serta mengedukasi masyarakat ini juga dapat kita temui melalui beragam karya digital tentang cerita-cerita yang juga dinikmati anak-anak. Beragama cerita yang difungsikan untuk mengedukasi anak-anak dapat berupa cerita dongeng maupun cerita-cerita fabel yang dikemas menggunakan teknologi modern melalui platform media sosial seperti youtube ataupun tiktok. Media sosial tersebut juga berperan sebagai media yang efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman anak mengenai lingkungan dengan cara yang menarik dan mudah dipahami. Dalam konteks ini, optimalisasi cerita-cerita anak pada social media seperti tiktok dan youtube juga sebagai sarana literasi ekologi perlu dilakukan melalui dukungan yang melibatkan guru, orang tua, dan masyarakat. Optimalisasi cerita-cerita dalam platform media sosial seperti tiktok dan youtube dalam meningkatkan literasi ekologi merupakan langkah strategis untuk menanamkan kesadaran lingkungan sejak dini. Dengan pendekatan yang kreatif dan edukatif, diharapkan anak-anak dapat memahami dan menerapkan nilai-nilai ekologis dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. AbstractEcological literacy is a crucial aspect of education, particularly in fostering environmental awareness in children. In this modern era, climate change and environmental degradation are global issues requiring special attention. These environmental issues are also frequently discussed through various social media platforms, which serve as a means of educating the public. One of the roles of social media in this educational process can also be seen in the various digital works featuring stories that children enjoy. The diverse stories used to educate children include fairy tales and fables, packaged using modern technology through social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok. These social media platforms also serve as effective tools for enhancing children's understanding of the environment in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner. In this context, optimizing children's stories on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube as a means of ecological literacy requires support from teachers, parents, and the community. Optimizing stories on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube to increase ecological literacy is a strategic step towards instilling environmental awareness from an early age. With a creative and educational approach, it is hoped that children can understand and apply ecological values ​​in their daily lives.
