Abstract

This study aims to examine and formulate an integrative model of local wisdom-based learning innovation developed by five Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, namely Walisongo Islamic Boarding School in North Lampung, Al-Kayyis Islamic Boarding School in Banten, Al-Mahalli Islamic Boarding School in Yogyakarta, Al-Hasan Islamic Boarding School in Ponorogo, and Darul Hikam Islamic Boarding School in Bendo. Local wisdom in this context includes cultural values such as piil pesenggiri, gotong royong (mutual cooperation), Javanese social ethics, agrarian culture, and the digital creativity of students. This research method uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that these Islamic boarding schools have succeeded in integrating local values into the learning system through three main pillars: (1) strengthening local values in the curriculum; (2) a contextual approach based on the socio-cultural aspects of students; and (3) methodological innovation that is adaptive to current developments. The implications of this model indicate that local wisdom-based learning can strengthen the character of students, the social relevance of Islamic boarding schools, and be an effective strategy in preserving local culture. This study recommends strengthening contextual curriculum policies and developing locality-based learning modules in Islamic boarding school environments.
