Abstract

Infectious diseases caused by microorganisms are the main cause of high morbidity and mortality in the world. One of the plants that have the potential as an antiseptic is a lahuna leaf. Lahuna leaves contain active antibacterial compounds and the addition of betel leaf to the liquid soap formulations can strengthen the activity of the antiseptic produced. The purpose of this research is to test the effectiveness of liquid soap formulations of lahuna leaves and betel leaves as an antiseptic. The methods used include phytochemical screening, physical observation of liquid soap formulations, and antibacterial activity tests using agar diffusion methods. The results of the phytochemical analysis showed that lahuna leaves contain flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and alkaloids, while betel leaves contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, and alkaloids. The liquid soap formulation of lahuna leaves and betel leaves has a clear yellow color, distinctive aroma, liquid form, rough taste, and lots of foam and has very strong inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus which is characterized by clear zones formed for each formulation I (22.4 mm), formulation II (21.8 mm) and formulation III (20.1 mm). These results indicate the potential of liquid soap formulations of lahuna leaves and betel leaves as antiseptic soap.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant content and organoleptic properties of herbal tea using a mixture of secang wood and stevia leaves. The sample preparation method involves separation based on wetness level, washing, drying, and grinding to powder. Phytochemical tests showed the presence of flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, tannins, terpenoids and steroids in both samples. The water content test shows the value is in accordance with the quality standards for packaged dry tea. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method, and the herbal wedang formulation with a proportion of 1:1 (FIII) showed the highest antioxidant activity of 76%. Organoleptic tests showed that the panelists really liked the color, aroma and taste of the FIII formulation. The overall results show that the FIII formulation is the best choice with high antioxidant content and good acceptance from consumers.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the characteristics of MCM-41 mesoporous silica. The mesoporous silica synthesis process used the hydrothermal method. The main ingredients used were cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (STAK) surfactant as a structure directing agent and ludox HS-40 as a silica source. The synthesized MCM-41 mesoporous silica was then characterized by using X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The XRD characterization results showed several peaks indexed with decreasing intensity, namely (100), (110) (200) and (210). This is a typical peak possessed by MCM-41 mesoporous silica. These peaks followed a hexagonal structure pattern. The FTIR spectrum showed several distinctive peaks belonging to MCM-41 mesoporous silica.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of strong and weak base activators on the adsorption properties of activated carbon derived from pineapple peel waste. Activated carbon prepared with NaOH and NH₄OH activators exhibited different physical characteristics; NaOH-activated carbon appeared darker and had a rougher texture compared to NH₄OH-activated carbon. The NaOH-activated carbon contained a moisture content of 8.2%, an ash content of 2.22%, and an iodine adsorption capacity of 393.75%. In contrast, the NH₄OH-activated carbon contained a moisture content of 9.9%, an ash content of 2.68%, and an iodine adsorption capacity of 382.41%. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) analysis showed an adsorption capacity of 0.17 mg/L for NaOH-activated carbon and 0.18 mg/L for NH₄OH-activated carbon. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed that NaOH-activated carbon contained O–H (hydroxyl), C=C (aromatic), C–H (alkane), C–O (alcohol), and C=H (alkene) functional groups, while NH₄OH-activated carbon exhibited O–H (hydroxyl), C=C (aromatic), C–H (alkane), and C=H (alkene) groups.
