Abstract

Nowadays it is very important to maintain a healthy body. The pandemic period has passed, but efforts to maintain health must be made, one of which is maintaining personal hygiene. Steps to maintain personal hygiene are washing hands, showering and washing hair. Some of these things require soap to help clean. Darma Cendika Catholic University (UKDC) together with Wonocolo Village, Surabaya City are making collaborative efforts to empower the community, generally housewives, in soap making activities. The aim of this soap making training is to develop skills, increase awareness of health and foster entrepreneurial ideas for Wonocolo sub-district housewives. The target of this activity is the Wonocolo sub-district housewives group. The training methods used include material delivery sessions and direct practice. This research involved 30 participants from community groups around Wonocolo sub-district. Before and after counseling, participants were given a questionnaire, the average result before counseling was 4 and after counseling was 9.2. These results indicate that the material delivered and the soap making training provided were effective in increasing participants' knowledge. It is hoped that this community service activity will have a positive impact on housewives in Wonocolo sub-district and that participants will be able to develop new skills in making soap.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity was designed to enhance health literacy based on herbal plants and to foster creative entrepreneurial interest among elementary school students through an innovation in herbal candy production. Design/Methodology/Approach: A service learning approach was employed by integrating conceptual learning on herbal plants, hands-on practice in producing herbal candy made from turmeric and tamarind, and learning evaluation through pretests, posttests, and entrepreneurial interest questionnaires. The activity involved fifth- and sixth-grade students of YBPK Christian Elementary School, Surabaya. Findings: The results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding of the types and benefits of herbal plants, as well as the basic stages of herbal candy production. In addition, more than half of the participants demonstrated an initial interest in developing herbal-based products as simple entrepreneurial opportunities. Practical Implications: Herbal candy products show potential as healthier snack alternatives and as an educational medium for introducing entrepreneurship grounded in local wisdom at the elementary school level. Originality/Value: This activity integrates health education and creative entrepreneurship based on herbal plants into practical learning experiences, offering an applicable and replicable community service model for elementary school education.

Abstract

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat melalui seminar dan bakti sosial bagi penderita stroke merupakan salah satu upaya promotif dan rehabilitatif untuk meningkatkan kesehatan masyarakat, khususnya kelompok rentan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan oleh HIMA AKP UKDC di Griya Sehat UKDC sebagai bentuk kepedulian terhadap tingginya angka kejadian stroke dan keterbatasan akses edukasi serta terapi rehabilitasi bagi masyarakat. Tujuan kegiatan adalah memberikan edukasi mengenai pencegahan dan perawatan stroke, serta menyediakan layanan terapi akupunktur sebagai bagian dari rehabilitasi komplementer. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada 28 April 2024 dengan melibatkan seminar edukatif dan layanan terapi akupunktur. Proses pendaftaran berlangsung pukul 08.00–09.00 WIB, dilanjutkan dengan sesi seminar dan tanya jawab, kemudian terapi akupunktur mulai pukul 09.00 WIB hingga selesai. Peserta berjumlah 53 orang, yaitu 50 penderita stroke dan 3 peserta non-stroke. Terapi dilakukan oleh 16 terapis menggunakan pendekatan akupunktur sesuai keluhan dan disertai edukasi perawatan mandiri, seperti akupresur, latihan penguatan otot, dan anjuran herbal. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi peserta, seluruh peserta mendapatkan layanan terapi dan seluruh sesi berlangsung lancar tanpa kendala teknis. Peserta melaporkan manfaat berupa rasa rileks, penurunan ketegangan otot, dan peningkatan pemahaman mengenai rehabilitasi stroke. Kegiatan ini terbukti berdampak positif bagi masyarakat dan menunjukkan bahwa kolaborasi antara perguruan tinggi, organisasi profesi, dan praktisi kesehatan dapat mendukung peningkatan derajat kesehatan masyarakat. Ke depannya, kegiatan serupa direkomendasikan untuk dilakukan secara berkelanjutan agar manfaat rehabilitasi dan edukasi dapat dirasakan secara lebih luas dan berkesinambungan.
