Abstract

Abstract

The ability to read is one of the initial abilities that students from an early age must possess. This aims to improve students' ability to understand the information conveyed as well as knowledge in the learning process. However, there are still many problems with students' initial reading skills that limit students' ability to understand the information and knowledge provided, one of which is the problem of beginning reading skills faced by students in a guidance center in Hulu Langat, Selangor, Malaysia. This study aims to observe the problems of students' beginning reading skills in guidance workshops in Hulu Langat, Selangor, Malaysia. This study uses a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach and data collection techniques through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies. Data analysis was performed using data reduction techniques, data display, conclusions, and data confirmation. The results of the study showed that many students had difficulties in beginning reading. Some students cannot read the letters of the alphabet or spell words, while others do not know syllables, cannot read sentences, and cannot write letters of the alphabet A-Z. Internal and external factors that affect students' reading ability are also observed. Internal factors include students' ability to read and write, while external factors include the lack of parental attention and the lack of sufficient guidance. In conclusion, there needs to be more intensive efforts in helping students overcome initial reading difficulties.

Abstract

Human rights are fundamentally crucial to every individual, especially the right to education, which has also been stipulated in the Indonesian constitution following the international agreements. This research aims to obtain information about what causes the Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia to have undocumented status, what problems they face in sending their children to a school, and what efforts and solutions can be made to obtain education for them. Through qualitative methods and a systematic approach, the researchers used various methods to gather data, such as interviews, observations, and documentation. This research found that the undocumented Indonesian migrant workers whose children lack proper documentation, let alone as they had entered Malaysia illegally, have no valid work or residence permission (overstaying), and got married in Malaysia to another foreign citizen. There were problems with their right to send their children to school, so the Sanggar Bimbingan Hulu Langat was established to overcome the problems and help the children get an education in Malaysia. The agenda turned out to be a means of resolving the issues that Indonesian migrant workers' children face so that they were able to access educational rights.

Abstract

Intercultural communication is key in shaping national identity, especially for migrant children growing up in multicultural environments. This study aims to uncover the effectiveness of intercultural communication strategies in shaping the national identity of Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia. Through a qualitative approach, this study found that the Hulu Kelang Guidance Center (SBHK) has successfully implemented various innovative strategies. Active participation in activities related to the Indonesian language and culture significantly enhances the sense of pride in the national identity of migrant children. This study provides a new contribution by identifying the key factors that influence the success of intercultural communication strategies in the context of non-formal education for migrant children. This finding could serve as a foundation for the development of more effective non-formal education programs that facilitate the social and cultural integration of migrant children.

Abstract

Students' early reading skills at the Sanggar Bimbingan (SB) in Hulu Langat, Malaysia, often present a challenge that impacts the effectiveness of the learning process. Many children of Indonesian migrant workers face difficulties in developing reading skills and have a limited understanding of Pancasila values. To address this issue, the Smart Book Pancasila was introduced as an innovative learning tool designed to create a more engaging and interactive learning environment.  This study explores how the Smart Book Pancasila helps improve early reading abilities and the comprehension of Pancasila values among students at SB Hulu Langat. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The primary informants included administrators, teachers, and students.  The findings indicate that the use of the Smart Book in Pancasila learning contributes positively to the improvement of students' reading skills. Using interactive visuals and engaging content helps students better understand reading material while also internalizing the values of Pancasila. Thus, the Smart Book Pancasila is an effective alternative strategy for early literacy development, particularly for children with limited access to formal education.
