Abstract

Background: Agriculture and food are negatively impacted by climate change, especially the long dry season caused by El Niño in Indonesia, especially in rural areas. High dependence on rainfall, land, and lack of representation in decision-making groups result in increased challenges and limited adaptive capacity of pregnant women in climate change including its impact on food security. Objectives: This study aims to characterize: 1) sensitivity to decreased food security related to El Niño for pregnant women; 2) pregnant women's perceptions of the impact of El Niño on food security during pregnancy; and 3) changes in food security and maternal and infant health over time, as observed by pregnant women in rural Indonesia. Methods: This study design is a qualitative design. This study was conducted in one district in South Sulawesi and Central Java Provinces. A semi-structured interview guide was used. Data analysis using qualitative thematic analysis methods of data using the constant comparative method. Transcripts were uploaded to NVivo© 12 to facilitate manual coding. with the constant comparative method and thematic analysis. Results: All informants did not know or did not understand the term El Niño. The most felt impacts due to the long dry season are drought and strong winds that make it difficult to obtain food. The way to overcome food insecurity is to utilize food that is still available to be processed into food that can be consumed and shared or shared with family to survive. Conclusion: Climate change has a significant impact on food security, especially in rural areas, which results in the risk of malnutrition in pregnant women.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting or failure to grow is a condition that describes the nutritional status of a child with a chronic nature during the growth and development of the child from the beginning of life, characterized by a child's height that is shorter than the age. Objective: This study analyzes factors related to stunting prevention behavior in children under five. Methods: This type of research is an observational study with a Cross-Sectional Study approach, where the researcher only observes a phenomenon at a certain point in time that explains the relationship between one variable and another variable in the studied population. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The sample of this study is 20 mothers under five. Data analysis was carried out using Fisher's Exact Test. Result: The results of the Fisher's Exact Test statistic test obtained a value of p-value = 0.018; family support obtained a value of p-value = 0.004; sociocultural obtained a value of p-value = 0.004; Knowledge obtained a value of p-value = 0.000 < an alpha value (α = 0.05). Conclusion: This study shows a significant relationship between Education, family support, socio-culture, Knowledge, and stunting prevention behavior in children under five. Maternal Education, family support, sociocultural aspects, and mothers' Knowledge are essential in stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that can affect the lungs and other organs, specifically Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mycobacterium belongs to a group of acid-fast bacteria commonly known as AFB (Acid-Fast Bacilli). To this day, pulmonary tuberculosis remains one of the most dangerous infectious diseases worldwide. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis. Research Methodology: This research employs an observational study with a case-control study design. The sample consists of 69 individuals diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires, and data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Result: The results of this study indicate that occupation (p=0.000), income (p=0.000), housing conditions (p=0.000), and smoking (p=0.018) significantly influence the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis. All variables examined in this study showed an impact on individuals affected by pulmonary tuberculosis. Conclusion: This study concludes that occupation, income, housing conditions, and smoking are significant factors influencing the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis. Improving these factors may help reduce the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis in the community. Therefore, individuals are expected to adopt healthier lifestyles by maintaining cleanliness and a healthy home environment, making it a habit to cover their mouths when sneezing or coughing, and avoiding spitting indiscriminately. Additionally, they are encouraged to actively seek information about pulmonary tuberculosis and participate in educational sessions on the disease.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a chronic health problem characterized by a child's height being lower than their age standard, often caused by poor nutritional intake and recurrent infections. This research focuses on stunting prevention through Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) with a community empowerment approach. Research Methodology: This type of research is observational analytics with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of mothers under five who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews and then analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test. The intervention was carried out by providing education through digital-based KIE media, developed using the Borg & Gall model. Result: The analysis showed a significant improvement in the knowledge and attitude of mothers under five after the intervention. Before the intervention, 74% of mothers had low knowledge about stunting, but after the intervention, this figure dropped to 2%, with 98% of mothers having good knowledge. The mother's attitude also increased from 2% good to 96% good after the intervention. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.001 for knowledge and 0.005 for attitude, showing a significant influence of KIE media on stunting prevention. Conclusion: The provision of digital-based KIE with a community empowerment approach has proven to be effective in increasing the knowledge and attitude of mothers under five towards stunting prevention. Implementing KIE is expected to be a sustainable strategy to support the national program in reducing stunting rates. Further research is suggested to compare the effectiveness between the intervention and control groups.

Abstract

In 2022, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide. In 2022, 670,000 women died of breast cancer worldwide. This study aimed to analyze the factors that determine breast self-examination behavior (sadar) in adolescent girls. This study was conducted in the city of Palembang from April to June 2024. The design of this study was cross-sectional. The research team consisted of 18 teams spread to the smallest areas. Data collection used questionnaires and direct observation, with some ratio data categorized to facilitate statistical testing. The population of this study were adolescent girls aged 15-24 years who had both parents, lived with their parents, and were enrolled in high school at the time of data collection (inclusion criteria). The Chi-Square test was used for analysis, with data processing using computerized statistics at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results of this study indicate that behavior related to breast self-examination (BSE) is influenced by age (p = 0.010), ethnicity p = 0.000), social environment (p = 0.002), internet access (p = 0.011), information media (p = 0.000), family (p = 0.000), and peer influence (p = 0.000). In conclusion, there is a relationship between breast self-examination behavior and age, ethnicity, social environment conditions, internet access, information media, family influence, and peer influence. The implications of the findings of this study are the need to increase information and education regarding the importance of BSE in the early detection of breast cancer, especially for groups that are vulnerable to the disease.
