Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization or the World Health Organization declares that breast milk is the right food and is suitable for the growth and development of infants throughout the world. However, giving baby complementary foods before reaching the age of 6 months and over will have a very detrimental effect on the baby. Exclusive breastfeeding for infants (< 6 months) contributes greatly to the reduction in infant mortality. On the other hand, giving additional food too early will increase the risk of developing both infectious and non-infectious diseases for the baby. Purpose: This study aims to determine how closely the mother's knowledge and attitudes are with the provision of early MP-ASI in the Kedai Sianam Health Center Work Area, Batu Bara Regency. Methods: This study uses a quantitative approach with the type of observational research with a cross-sectional design where the independent and dependent variables are measured at the same time. The population used is all mothers who have a baby of 6 months. The number of samples based on the sample formula is 32 people. In this study, sampling was done by simple random sampling or by simple random sampling where all members of the population had the opportunity to be selected as samples. Results: The relationship between the mother's level of knowledge about complementary feeding and the provision of complementary feeding in early months in the Kedai Sianam 33 Health Center Work Area, Batu Bara Regency in 2022 with a number of 32 respondents, there is a significant relationship with a p value of 0.001 where the majority of respondents who have poor knowledge give Complementary foods for babies before 6 months. .

Abstract

Background : According to the health profile of North Sumatra in 2016, breastfeeding exclusive in Deli Serdang Regency is from 21,996 babies only 10,355 people (47.1%) who were exclusively breastfed. Meanwhile, babies who are not breastfed as many as 11,641 people (52.9%). Coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Deli Serdang Regency has not yet reached the National target of 80%. This shows that breastfeeding as the baby's first food is still lacking. Whereas a decrease in child nutrition causes children to have less nutrition up to poor growth and stunting can be prevented as early as possible byexclusive breastfeeding. Methods: This research is a quantitative research. Abstract

Background: Sectio caesarea (SC) is a delivery procedure that can cause complications, including prolonged wound healing. The nutritional status of postpartum women plays an important role in accelerating the postoperative wound healing process. Malnutrition can slow tissue regeneration, increase the risk of infection, and prolong the recovery period. Objectives: This study aims to analyse the relationship between the nutritional status of postpartum women with the post SC wound healing process at Tanjung Pura Langkat Hospital in 2023.Methods: This study used an analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 postpartum mothers who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Nutritional status was measured by upper arm circumference (LILA), and wound healing was assessed using the REEDA scale. Data analysis used chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05.Results: Of the 30 respondents, 66.6% had normal nutritional status, while 33.3% had chronic energy deficiency (CED). Wound healing was faster in mothers with normal nutritional status (100%) compared to mothers with SEZ (0%). The chi-square test showed a significant relationship between nutritional status and post SC wound healing (p=0.000).Conclusion: Good nutritional status is associated with faster wound healing in post SC mothers. Therefore, the fulfilment of optimal nutrition is very important for postpartum women to accelerate the postoperative recovery process.

Abstract

Background: The most common nutritional disorder experienced by pregnant women is Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). CED in pregnant women is a condition of insufficient energy and protein intake during pregnancy that can cause health problems for the mother and fetus. Pregnancy is not a disease, but a normal and natural phenomenon. Pregnant women with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) are pregnant women at risk of CED, which is characterized by a mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) of less than 23.5 cm. Nutritional problems in pregnant women, especially Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), are a public health problem that affects the health of mothers and fetuses. One factor influencing the incidence of CED is pregnant women's knowledge of nutrition during pregnancy. This study aims to determine the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge of pregnancy nutrition and the incidence of CED at the Timbaan Village Health Post, Bandar District, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province in 2024. Methods: This study was quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The population was all pregnant women visiting the Timbaan Village Health Post, and a sample of 40 respondents was drawn using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire to determine the level of knowledge of pregnant women and to measure nutritional status using the Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods using the chi-square test with a 95% confidence level. Results: The results of the study showed that most pregnant women had insufficient knowledge (57.5%), and most experienced CED (55%). The chi-square test results showed a significant relationship between pregnant women's knowledge of pregnancy nutrition and the incidence of CED (p-value = 0.012 < 0.05). Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between pregnant women's knowledge of pregnancy nutrition and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). It is hoped that health workers can improve nutrition education and counseling for pregnant women to prevent CED.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Early menopause (before age 45) increases risks of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and reduced quality of life. Although hormonal therapy is effective, its adverse effects have driven interest in safer alternatives. However, evidence on community-based herbal interventions for preventing early menopause is scarce in Indonesia. This study examined the effectiveness of Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) decoction as a low-cost, non-hormonal preventive therapy for early menopause. Methods: This parallel two-arm randomized controlled trial, conducted in Perbulan Village, Karo Regency, involved 30 women aged 40–45 years, randomly assigned to an intervention group receiving lemongrass decoction and a control group. Participants consumed 250 ml of decoction daily for 30 days. Menopausal symptoms were measured using the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and menstrual cycle regularity was recorded. Data were analyzed with the Mann–Whitney U test following the CONSORT 2010 guidelines, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05 and 95% confidence intervals (CI) reported. Ethical approval was obtained from the institutional review board. Results: Mean MRS scores in the intervention group decreased significantly from 20.5 ± 2.0 to 13.4 ± 1.6 (p < 0.001, 95% CI [5.7, 8.4], d = 1.45, large effect), while the control group showed no significant change. Menstrual cycle regularity improved in 73.3% of intervention participants compared with 13.3% in controls (p < 0.001). Compliance was high (86.7%) and no adverse events were reported. Conclusion: Lemongrass decoction effectively reduced menopausal symptoms and regulated menstrual cycles, supporting its use as a safe, acceptable, and affordable non-hormonal option for community-based women’s health promotion. The findings suggest potential integration of herbal therapy education into midwifery and public health programs to strengthen preventive reproductive care.
