Many students can't adapt in first year as a medical student to affect academic performance. It can make self-esteem and motivation decrease, frustration, stress, avoid talking to others, avoid faculty support, and potential fail in the future. Several medical faculty implement peer-mentoring to assist students to solve this problem with increasing motivation, self-esteem and personal development. This study aims to identify mentorship program implementation at Medical Faculty of Pattimura University. Methods: This study was a type of descriptive observational study used primary data with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this study was first year students at Medical Faculty of Pattimura University used total sampling. Results: The result of this study was taken 202 respondents from 205 first year students who joined the peer-mentoring program “MENISCUS” showed frequency of the program is 2–4 meetings on duration > 60 minutes with 3 mentoring method combination and be held online (virtual meeting). Abstract

Background: Tutorial Problem Based Learning (PBL) is a form of group discussion that aims to form a collaborative, contextual and constructive learning process. This method is a learning method that has just been adopted by new students at the Faculty of Medicine, Patimura University, from conventional learning methods to student-centered learning methods. Based on the results of initial interviews with new students, it was found that there were various views from students regarding the implementation of PBL tutorials. Aims: This study aims to find out more about student perceptions regarding the implementation of PBL tutorials. Methods: This research is a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach and data collection techniques using in-depth interviews and FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Result: The results of this study indicate that PBL tutorials can help students in the collaboration process and think contextually and constructively. Regarding the scenarios in this study, students said they were more stimulated to learn with the new scenarios given compared to the old scenarios, for the role of tutors there are several tutors who need to pay attention to their role in evaluating and assessing during the PBL tutorial process and for students in the PBL tutorial process in this study it is stated students can be active in discussions, but are influenced by prior knowledge of students, the number of group members and self-confidence. Conclusion: Therefore, to increase the effectiveness of PBL tutorials implemented at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pattimura, it is necessary to update the scenarios given, evaluate tutors regarding the role and assessment in the PBL tutorial process and increase student understanding regarding the objectives of implementing PBL tutorials.

Abstract

The educational method applied in the Clinical Skill Lab (CSL) is a student-centered, integrated, problem-based, independent, and multi-professional learning approach. There are many limitations obtained in the CSL process that impact students' satisfaction level with the instructor as a guide for students to deepen a skill. This study aims to determine the relationship between the quality of CSL instructor guidance and student satisfaction level at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University. This study uses a quantitative analytical method with a cross-sectional research design. The sample of this study is students of the 2019, 2020, and 2021 batches, totaling 525 respondents. Data collection uses a questionnaire that is shared with students through Google Forms. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the quality of CSL instructor guidance was mainly in the good category (36.2%), and the level of student satisfaction was in the very satisfied category (52.8%). The bivariate analysis results showed a significant relationship between the quality of guidance provided by CSL instructors and the level of student satisfaction at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University of Ambon (p<0.001). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of quality of guidance provided by CSL instructors and the level of student satisfaction at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University of Ambon.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacteria can attack all organs in the human body, especially the lungs. The source of transmission is a TB patient with a cough or sneeze. The main symptom of pulmonary tuberculosis is a cough that lasts for 2 weeks or more. This study aims to determine the picture of chest x-rays compared with the results of the Rapid Molecular Test examination in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis at RSUD Dr. M. Haulussy Ambon. This study is an analytic descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling was conducted at the Medical Record Installation with a total sample of 63 patients. The results of the study were obtained based on the picture of the chest X-ray compared with the results of the GeneXpert TCM examination, the highest number was patients who had a thoracic X-ray picture of active old pulmonary TB with medium TCM GeneXpert results as many as 32 patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of mortality in Indonesia. The presence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) co-infection comorbidities is a double burden. In TB patients, the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an inflammatory marker and may indicate disease progression and immune system status. This study aimed to describe the NLR in pulmonary TB patients with and without DM and HIV co-infection comorbidities. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. A total sampling technique was used, resulting in a sample of 159 participants. Data were collected from medical records. Results: Among 108 newly diagnosed pulmonary TB patients in this study, 42 patients (38.9%) had a normal NLR (0.78-3.53), while 66 patients (61.1%) had an increased NLR (>3.53). Of the 28 TB patients with DM comorbidity, 12 patients (42.9%) had a normal NLR, while 16 patients (57.1%) had an increased NLR. Among the 23 TB patients with HIV co-infection comorbidity, four patients (17.4%) had a normal NLR, while 19 patients (82.6%) had an increased NLR. Conclusion: The results showed that pulmonary TB patients with and without DM and HIV co-infection comorbidities had a high NLR.

Abstract

Background: Respiratory diseases are the most common cause of death in children, in this case most of them are obstructive disorders. Peak expiratory flow (PEF) is a tool for detecting airway obstruction, which the value is influenced by host and environmental factors. Examination of PEF aims to describe the condition of the large-calibre airway. A decrease in PEF values indicates an expiratory airways resistance. This study aimed to determine how the condition of pulmonary physiology in children living in the coastal area, with peak expiratory flow parameters in elementary school students in coastal areas, area of Hutumuri Village. Methods: The design used in this study was descriptive quantitative with cross-sectional method. This study took variables in the group of children aged 8-13 years, the group of children with weight between 15-36 kg, height of 118-139 cm, the group of children with a hobby of swimming, the group of children with a history of respiratory disease. The sampling technique used was total sampling with a total of 215 respondents in four elementary schools located in Hutumuri Village, South Leitimur District, Ambon City which included 53 Batu Gong Elementary School, Toisapu Elementary School, 52 Lawena Elementary School and Hutumuri Christian Elementary School. Results: The value of PEF rate increased in the group of children with aged ≥12-13 years, the group of children with body weight ≥36 kg, the group of children with height ≥139 cm, the group of children who did not have a history of respiratory disease, and the group of children with swimming as hobby. Conclusion: The average value of PEF in children who live in coastal areas had increased and of the 215 respondents studied, most were found in the normal PEF group or the percentage of 80-100% with 114 respondents (53.0%).
