Abstract

The results of Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018 stated that the largest proportion of dental problems in Indonesia were damaged/caved/sick teeth (45.3%). East Kalimantan is ranked 12th highest out of 34 provinces in terms of the proportion of dental and oral health problems. The aim of the research is to analyze the influence of health education using videos on knowledge and attitudes related to dental and oral health at SDN 002 Loa Janan. This type of research uses a quasi-experimental design with purposive sampling technique. The research sample was 58 with data collection carried out by filling out questionnaires, with univariate and bivariate analysis. Based on the results of research using the Wilcoxon test showing a p-value of 0.000 (p>0.05). This means that there is an influence before and after being given health education using video media on the knowledge and attitudes of respondents.

Abstract

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, including Samarinda, where transmission often occurs within families due to close contact with patients. Family-based interventions are essential to strengthen preventive behaviors and reduce transmission risk; however, limited family participation continues to hinder their effectiveness. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family roles and pulmonary TB prevention behavior in the working areas of Karang Asam, Wonorejo, and Loa Bakung Health Centers, Samarinda. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed involving 80 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data on family participation in TB prevention were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: A significant relationship was found between family roles and TB prevention behavior (p = 0.001 < 0.05). Families actively involved in prevention demonstrated better practices, including consistent mask use, maintaining ventilation, and treatment adherence. Conclusion: Family-based interventions play a vital role in TB prevention. Strengthening family education, counseling, and empowerment—alongside collaboration among health workers, community cadres, and policymakers—is crucial. Implementing structured psychoeducation and community engagement strategies can effectively reduce stigma, improve adherence, and enhance TB prevention efforts.

Abstract

Infant massage is a traditional touch therapy that has long been part of Indonesian culture, commonly performed by traditional birth attendants who are believed to possess skills based on experience and cultural values. Despite the growth of modern healthcare services, this practice is still used by some communities. This study aims to explore mothers’ perceptions regarding their trust and experiences in using the services of traditional infant massage practitioners in RT 13, Kelurahan X. The research employed a qualitative method with in-depth interviews involving mothers who had brought their babies to traditional infant massage practitioners. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of perceptions and experiences. The findings show that traditional infant massage is still trusted and considered beneficial for infant health and comfort. Such trust is shaped by positive experiences, such as babies becoming calmer, sleeping better, and falling ill less frequently. Supporting factors include hereditary beliefs, personal experiences, family support, and social environmental influences. It can be concluded that the use of traditional infant massage services in RT 13, Kelurahan X is strongly influenced by culture, experience, and social support. It is recommended that mothers be more selective in choosing massage practitioners, healthcare providers deliver education and build collaboration with traditional practitioners, future research involve more participants with a participatory approach, and communities strike a balance between traditional beliefs and medical knowledge to ensure infant safety

Abstract

Background: Dengue fever is an acute mosquito-borne infection caused by the dengue viruses and has become a growing public health concern globally. One of the causes is the lack of knowledge about the 3M Plus campaign, especially among children in the school-age group. The objective of this research is to identify the impact of sticking pictures as health promotion media to prevent dengue fever on elementary school fifth-graders’ knowledge and attitude. Methods: This research uses a pre-experimental type with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research consisted of all fifth-grade students, followed by 39 persons chosen utilizing proportional random sampling and simple random sampling techniques. The primary data for this research were collected through the distribution and completion of close-ended questionnaires. The data analysis method was carried out using the Wilcoxon signed-ranks test. Results: The results show that there is a significant impact of the use of sticking pictures as health promotion media on elementary school fifth-graders’ knowledge (p = 0.01) and attitude (p = 0.01) towards dengue fever prevention after they were given sticking pictures. Conclusion: The use of health promotion media with sticking pictures affects elementary school fifth-graders’ increasing knowledge and attitude about DHF. The implication of this finding is that educators should consider integrating sticking pictures as health promotion media into their teaching methods to enhance students’ knowledge and attitude towards dengue fever prevention.
