Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the brainstorming model in improving students’ critical thinking skills on the topic “Human Life in the Prehistoric Era” in grade X at SMA Plus Al Qomariyah. The background of this research is based on the low level of students’ critical thinking skills, which is caused by the dominance of conventional teaching methods that lack encouragement for analytical, evaluative, and reflective activities. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles consisting of the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 35 students who were divided into heterogeneous groups to carry out brainstorming activities, namely proposing ideas freely, selecting, and evaluating ideas based on logic. Data were collected through a critical thinking test measuring the indicators of interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference, as well as student and teacher activity observation sheets. The results show a significant improvement from the pre-cycle, with an average score of 62.5 and a mastery level of 30%, to 73.5 and 65% in cycle I, and finally to 83.6 and 88% in cycle II, exceeding the minimum mastery criteria (KKM). These findings prove that the implementation of brainstorming can address students’ weaknesses in drawing conclusions and evaluating information logically. Thus, the brainstorming model is proven to be effective in improving critical thinking skills in learning, and it is recommended to be applied consistently with an emphasis on idea evaluation so that students’ critical thinking skills can develop optimally

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the discussion method in developing students’ critical thinking skills in social studies learning, to identify its strengths and weaknesses, and to explain its suitability with the characteristics of social studies instruction. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method. The data were obtained from books, journal articles, and various scientific publications relevant to the discussion method, critical thinking, and social studies learning. Data were collected through documentation study and analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques by reviewing, comparing, and synthesizing information based on the research focus. The results show that the discussion method plays an important role in developing students’ critical thinking skills as it encourages active participation, the ability to express opinions, respond to others’ viewpoints, and construct logical arguments. This method also has advantages in enhancing creativity, communication skills, collaboration, and learning motivation. However, its implementation faces several limitations, such as requiring more time, uneven student participation, and dependence on the teacher’s ability to manage the discussion effectively. Therefore, the discussion method can be considered a relevant instructional strategy to support the development of students’ critical thinking skills in social studies learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model in enhancing students’ understanding of Social Studies concepts among seventh-grade students at SMPN 3 Tarogong Kidul. The study is motivated by the low level of students’ conceptual understanding, which is influenced by teacher-centered instruction and limited student participation in the learning process. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The participants included a Social Studies teacher and seventh-grade students selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the implementation of the TGT model improves students’ engagement, learning motivation, and social interaction. In addition, students’ conceptual understanding increased, as indicated by their improved ability to explain, connect, and apply concepts effectively. Supporting factors include high student enthusiasm and effective group collaboration, while inhibiting factors involve low self-confidence and limited instructional time. Therefore, the TGT model can be considered an effective, interactive, and meaningful alternative strategy for Social Studies learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model in Social Studies (IPS) and to examine the development of students’ critical thinking skills. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects were students of class VIII B at SMPN 3 Tarogong Kidul. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of the NHT model improves student engagement in learning, as evidenced by increased participation in discussions, confidence in expressing opinions, and social interaction among students. Furthermore, students’ critical thinking skills show significant development, particularly in analysis, explanation, and inference. Students are able to identify problems, connect information, provide logical arguments, and draw systematic conclusions. However, evaluation skills remain less developed and require more intensive practice. Thus, the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model is effective in enhancing student engagement and gradually developing critical thinking skills in Social Studies learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Wayground media in increasing social studies learning interest among eighth-grade students at MTs Salafiyah. This research employed a qualitative method using a library research approach. The research data were obtained from various literature sources such as books, scientific journals, research articles, and other documents related to game-based learning media, learning interest, and social studies learning. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation studies and literature analysis, while data analysis used content analysis techniques. The results showed that Wayground media plays an important role in creating a more interactive, engaging, and enjoyable social studies learning process. The use of game-based learning media can increase student involvement in learning activities, foster enthusiasm, and reduce boredom toward theoretical social studies materials. In addition, Wayground media helps teachers create more innovative learning environments and encourages students to be more active in discussions and classroom activities. Students’ responses to the use of Wayground media indicated an increase in attention, participation, and learning interest during the learning process. Therefore, Wayground media can be used as an effective alternative learning medium to improve social studies learning interest among eighth-grade students at MTs Salafiyah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of social studiesteachers in shaping students’ disciplinary character atSMP Tunas Persada Malangbong Garut, the obstaclesfaced, and the efforts made to overcome theseobstacles. This study used a qualitative researchmethod with a literature study approach. Data were obtained from various relevant sources such as books, scientific journals, research articles, and otherdocuments related to the research topic. Data collection techniques were carried out through contentanalysis of various sources related to the role of socialstudies teachers and the formation of students’ disciplinary character. The results of the study indicatethat social studies teachers have an important role in shaping students’ disciplinary character throughmotivation, disciplinary habituation, role modeling, andthe enforcement of rules in the learning process. Social studies teachers also play a role in instillingresponsibility, obedience to rules, and mutual respectamong students. However, there are several obstaclesin its implementation, such as students’ low awarenessof the importance of discipline, peer environmentalinfluences, lack of family attention, and excessivegadget use. To overcome these obstacles, socialstudies teachers make various efforts, such as providing advice and motivation, implementingdisciplinary habituation, giving good examples, andcollaborating with students’ parents. Therefore, theformation of students’ disciplinary character requirescooperation between teachers, families, and theschool environment in order to run optimally.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the improvement ofstudents’ conceptual understanding on socialinteraction and social institution materials through theGiving Question and Getting Answer (GQGA) methodin class VIIA of SMP IT Najaahaan Bayongbong, identify the implementation of the method in increasingstudents’ activeness and participation, examine theobstacles faced in implementing the method, andanalyze the teacher’s efforts to overcome theseobstacles. This research used a Classroom ActionResearch (CAR) method with a descriptive qualitativeapproach. Data collection techniques were carried outthrough observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles andHuberman analysis technique, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of the GivingQuestion and Getting Answer method was able toimprove students’ conceptual understanding of socialinteraction and social institution materials. Studentsbecame more active in asking and answeringquestions, participating in discussions, and explainingthe material they had learned. In addition, this methodalso increased students’ confidence and participationduring the learning process. The obstacles found in implementing this method included students’ lack ofself-confidence, limited learning time, and differencesin students’ abilities in understanding the material. To overcome these obstacles, the teacher providedmotivation, additional guidance, formed study groups, and managed learning time more effectively. Based onthe results of the study, it can be concluded that theGiving Question and Getting Answer method iseffective in social studies learning to improve students’ conceptual understanding, activeness, andparticipation in class VIIA of SMP IT NajaahaanBayongbong.
