Abstract

Hyperuricemia, characterized by increased serum uric acid levels, occurs due to an imbalance between uric acid production and excretion. The prevalence in adults and the elderly in China is 12.69% and is higher in men (17.7%) than women (8.5%). Contributing factors such as genetics, diet, and lifestyle changes, lead to an increased risk of gout, kidney stones, and cardiovascular disease. Chronic hyperuricemia can cause joint damage and deformity due to the deposition of urate crystals. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) methodology to screen for hyperuricemia in the elderly at St. Mary's Church. Francis of Assisi. The screening results showed that 12 people (33.33%) of the 36 participants had hyperuricemia. Early detection of hyperuricemia is very important in preventing complications such as gout and cardiovascular disease. Regular check-ups and lifestyle changes can significantly improve health outcomes and quality of life for seniors.

Abstract

Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition that occurs quite frequently. This sudden cessation of heart function is caused by the loss of electrical activity in the heart, which results in the cessation of blood circulation throughout the body. Quick and proper handling of this condition can reduce the mortality rate due to cardiac arrest. Therefore, Basic Life Support (BLS) training needs to be conducted to educate the general public. The BLS training conducted for the management officers and youth of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Tebet was carried out by providing theoretical and practical BLS lessons, as well as conducting pre-tests and post-tests to assess the participants' understanding of the material and practices provided. From the activity conducted, a total of 22 participants attended the BLS training, and there was a significant difference in the average pre-test and post-test scores. It can be concluded that the training provided was effective in increasing the participants' understanding and knowledge of BLS.

Abstract

Aging leads to changes in body composition influenced by physical, psychological, and social factors. Understanding the relationship between fat distribution and nutritional status, particularly in older adults, is crucial for targeted interventions. This study examines the impact of body fat composition on nutritional assessment, particularly its influence on MNA scores in older adults. It aims to provide insights into how fat distribution and related metabolic changes affect nutritional status and inform targeted interventions for aging populations. The sample consisted of 31 elderly woman subjects selected through purposive sampling in a cross-sectional design from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Their nutritional status was determined using the MNA score, and the body composition measures were total body fat and skeletal muscle measured by the Omron Karada Scan HBF 375. SPSS analyzed statistical differences between body composition and MNA scores. This study found significant correlations between the Mini Nutritional Assessment scores and body composition parameters, including BMI (r = 0.473, p = 0.007), total subcutaneous fat (r = 0.468, p = 0.008), and visceral fat (r = 0.457, p = 0.010). Arm skeletal muscle showed a negative correlation (r = -0.486, p = 0.006). These results emphasize that fat composition is a critical determinant of nutritional status in the elderly. The study found a significant correlation between fat composition as a key determinant of nutritional status in the elderly, with significant correlations observed between MNA scores and various body fat parameters. Abstract

Anemia among women of childbearing age remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, directly affecting both quality of life and maternal health outcomes. Early detection through hemoglobin and hematocrit testing plays a critical role in preventing complications and improving health status. This community service activity was conducted using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) framework to enhance awareness among women of reproductive age regarding anemia, its risk factors, and preventive strategies. Educational sessions were delivered through counseling, followed by hemoglobin and hematocrit examinations. The average hemoglobin level among participants was 11.44 g/dL and hematocrit was 33.76%, both below the normal thresholds, indicating a potential risk for anemia. Participants reported improved understanding of the importance of maintaining a nutritious diet and undergoing routine health check-ups. The intervention demonstrated that education combined with early screening through hemoglobin and hematocrit assessments can effectively reduce the risk of anemia in women of reproductive age. This program supports increased health literacy and contributes to anemia prevention efforts in this vulnerable population.
