Abstract

English as Foreign Language course is offered in the primary school teacher program, though it is a compulsory subject at Jambi University. In practice, there is no standardized English material used in this program. Therefore, implementing English material relevant to the field becomes a necessity and thematic English textbook can be an alternative. This study is aimed to investigate the use of the thematic English textbook in teaching English to PGSD students at Jambi university. This study employs classroom action research and qualitative approach to analyze the data. To collect the data the researcher used techniques proposed by Mills (2003) such as archival sources: notes during lectures, average attendance, number of students subject to sanctions, discipline. Journal: Daily observational notes and artifacts such as sitting position, video recording, student portfolio.  The finding shows that the students enjoy the material since the topic discussed are familiar. Besides, the material is proved can encourage students’ active participation during teaching and learning process. To conclude, the implementation of thematic English textbook can be an option in maximizing student’s potential.

Abstract

Keterbatasan akses fisik, waktu operasional, dan efisiensi pengelolaan pada perpustakaan tradisional mendorong lahirnya perpustakaan digital sebagai solusinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan kecerdasan buatan dalam perpustakaan digital Universitas Jambi guna meningkatkan aksesibilitas, efisiensi layanan, dan pengalaman pengunjung, serta mengatasi keterbatasan yang ada pada perpustakaan tradisional. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian tindakan (action research). Responden terdiri dari 10 pustakawan dan 30 mahasiswa yang dipilih dengan metode purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif, komparatif, dan triangulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan kecerdasan buatan membantu pustakawan dalam mengurangi beban kerja manual dan mempercepat pengelelolaan koleksi. Begitu pula mahasiswa yang merasakan berbagai kemudahan dalam akses koleksi digital dan peningkatan jumlah pengunjung hingga 40%. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bawha peningkatan efisiensi pengelolaan perpustakaan dan aksesibilitas layanan telah berdampak positif terhadap peningkatan kualitas layanan dan pengalaman pengunjung.

Abstract

The pervasive use of gadgets among elementary school-aged children has sparked concerns regarding its impact on cognitive development. This qualitative study delved into this issue by examining the experiences and perspectives of students at Cahaya Hati Islamic Elementary School through in-depth interviews over two months. Thematic analysis of the interviews shed light on the types and frequency of gadget use, contexts of usage, activities engaged in, and observed impacts on cognitive abilities. The findings revealed a significant reliance on gadgets for educational and leisure purposes, with implications for attention span and task focus. Drawing on theories of cognitive development, such as Piaget's constructivist perspective, Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development, and Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory, the discussion navigated the intricate interplay between gadget use and cognitive growth. Recommendations were formulated to optimize the benefits of gadget use while mitigating potential drawbacks, aiming to foster balanced cognitive development in children amidst the digital age.

Abstract

The increasing number of international students in Indonesia's higher education sector urges institutions to improve the quality of their services, facilities, and education. The teaching and learning environment is critical, encompassing the effectiveness of instructional methods, classroom interactions, and the academic support systems provided by the university. Additionally, their socio-experiences, including integration into the campus community and interactions with peers, play a crucial role in their overall well-being and academic success. This study aims to explore the life and academic experiences of international students in undergraduate International Programs at the University of Jambi in Indonesia. This research employed a mixed-method approach, combining a questionnaire adapted from the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) and in-depth interviews, with a total of 13 international students from international classrooms participating in the study. The research highlights significant challenges for international students at the University of Jambi, including inadequate classroom and laboratory facilities, poor lighting, and insufficient resources, particularly in Animal Sciences and Agriculture. Language barriers due to Indonesian being the primary medium of instruction further hinder learning. Students express high dissatisfaction with services such as insurance, health facilities, extracurricular activities, and counseling, though library services are well-regarded. Recommendations include adopting English for instruction, providing bilingual training for lecturers, and improving infrastructure and student services to enhance the overall academic experience for international students

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze students’ barrier and motivation regarding English Online Learning during the COVID-19 outbreak. The subject of the research was eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Batang Hari in academic year of 2020/2021. This research employed a descriptive research method using quantitative and qualitative techniques to explore and explain students’ barrier and motivation. Based on the data presentation and analysis of the research, it can be concluded that Eleventh graders at SMA Negeri 1 Batang Hari encounter barriers regarding online learning during the COVID-19 outbreak such as condition for accessing the internet, deficiency in using the online learning application used by the teacher, the courseware is too rigid and becomes a burden, the learners did not know how to get help from the teacher, and the learners did not know how to get help from the teacher. Besides that, several motivations are also identified in this study, they are: (1) The students were willing to study English using the media chosen by their teacher, as long as it is easy to use. (2) Majority of students ask their English teacher when they had difficulty in learning English through online learning. (3) Majority of students were always working on English assignments given by the teacher because they were afraid of their parents and teacher. (4) They will try as best as they can in completing the assignments. (5) Most of the students were motivated and enthusiastic to study English through online learning.

Abstract

This systematic literature review provided several journal articles that contain about students` Attitude on artificial intelligence . This article used three databases, namely ERIC, Google Scholar and Taylor & Francis. A total of 25.093 articles were appeared, and only 4 of them were chosen after considering the criteria for exclusion and inclusion. The articles under consideration were published between 2022 and 2023. In general, this review is beneficial for practitioners because it allows them to learn which journal articles are prepared to be used in determining the gaps of Students` Attitude on artificial intelligence. This study found that the students who have a positive attitude in using artificial intelligence can improved their English skills.

Abstract

Keterampilan mendesain, memilih, menggunakan metode mengajar serta mengembangkan bahan ajar yang tepat merupakan suatu bentuk keterampilan yang sangat dibutuhkan oleh setiap guru. Materi pembelajaran yang baik dipadu dengan metode mengajar yang tepat merupakan suatu keahlian dan kecakapan yang harus dimiliki oleh setiap guru Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Tujuan pelaksanaan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan tentang bagaimana memilih dan menentukan metode  mengajar, mengadaptasi, dan membuat materi ajar dengan menggunakan sumber belajar yang tersedia di lingkungan dengan berpedoman pada kurikulum yang digunakan disekolah. Selain itu, pelatihan ini juga diharapkan mampu meningkatkan kemampuan guru SMP untuk dapat secara terampil dalam memilih, mengadaptasi, dan membuat materi ajar dan metode yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa. Kegiatan pelatihan ini diharapakan mampu memberikan manfaat kepada guru berupa kemampuan mendisain dan mengembangkan materi ajar serta menggunakan metode pembelajaran yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan siswa di SMP dengan berdasar pada Kurikulum yang digunakan disekolah masing masing.Kegiatan Pelatihan metode pembelajaran ini sangat erat kaitannya dengan kegitan keseharian guru sebagai pengajar dan fasilitator pada kegiatan proses pembelajaran di SMP. Selain keterkaitan tugas, kegiatan ini juga sangat erat hubungannya dengan analisis Kurikulum Pendidikan Sekolah Menengah Pertama, kegiatan MGMP, dan kegiatan pengayaan kemampuan dan keterampilan guru lainnya. Pelatihan ini telah dilaksanakan dengan baik dengan hasil yang sangat memuaskan. Tanggapan yang sangat positif dari komisi dewan guru dengan harapan kegiatan serupa dapat terus dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 22 dengan materi yang juga dapat memberikan pelatihan bagaimana menindak lanjuti hasil pelatihan dengan berupa pelaksanaan tindakan kelas.  Pada pelatihan ini, telah dilatih 27 orang guru dengan latar belakang bidang studi yang berbeda, seperti Pendidikan IPS, Matematika, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Inggris, Fisika, Biologi, Bimbingan Konseling, dan Sejarah
