Abstract

Patient loyalty is one of the most important factors in drug therapy to achieve successful disease treatment. We conducted a literature review to examine the relationship between drug information services and chronic patient loyalty in pharmacies. The method used was a systematic examination of related studies and articles, using a qualitative approach. The first screening included 50 articles and excluded 9 articles, the second screening excluded 30 articles, and the final articles used in this review were 11 articles. The results showed that drug information services had a positive effect on patient loyalty through the mediation of patient satisfaction. The factors that influence drug information services include the type of drug information, competence of the pharmacist, interpersonal communication, and service time. The factors that influence patient loyalty include trust, commitment, customer value, and switching costs. Abstract

The provision of drug information (PDI) is a crucial factor influencing consumer behavior and ensuring appropriate drug use, thereby achieving therapeutic goals. With advancements in technology, digital platforms such as tele-counseling, WhatsApp, and social media are increasingly being used for PDI. However, challenges such as unclear communication, incomplete information, and delayed responses remain, which may affect consumer satisfaction. This study aims to assess consumer satisfaction with PDI through the implementation of a pharmacy application, using the End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) model, which evaluates information content, accuracy, format, ease of use, and timeliness. The research employed an associative, cross-sectional design and involved 250 consumers at Atma Jaya Pharmacy. Data were collected via a Likert-scale-based questionnaire, with responses analyzed to determine satisfaction levels in each EUCS dimension. Results showed that consumer satisfaction was consistently high across all dimensions, with the average satisfaction scores being 89.10% for information content, 90.19% for accuracy, 87.25% for format, 85.33% for ease of use, and 86.78% for timeliness. In conclusion, the use of technology in PDI significantly enhances consumer satisfaction, offering more accessible, accurate, and timely drug information. This study highlights the importance of optimizing technological tools in pharmaceutical services to improve user experience and satisfaction.

Abstract

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a critical-priority group of MDR bacteria and its spread can occur in hospital inpatient settings. Several studies showed that antibiotics consumption for inpatients can cause E. coli resistance to other antibiotics called cross-resistance. The aim of this study to determine the cross-resistance in E. coli to antibiotics in the inpatient installation of the regional general hospital "X" in Bali, Indonesia by analyzing the relationship between the antibiotic consumption and the percentage of antibiotic resistance of E. coli. This research is an ecological study with the independent variable is the antibiotics consumption defined as defined daily doses/100 bed-days and the dependent variable is the percentage of E. coli resistance during 2017-2020. The correlation between the level of antibiotic consumption and the percentage of E. coli resistance to antibiotics was analyzed using the Pearson correlation tests. The results showed that the consumption of tetracycline had a significant correlation with increased resistance of E. coli to meropenem and piperacillin-tazobactam (r=0.8-1.0; p<0.05). This showed that there is cross-resistance in E. coli. This incident is associated with selective pressure, horizontal and vertical gene transfer in E. coli. The consumption of tetracycline, apart from inducing the production of the tet gene which is the cause of resistance to tetracycline, can also induce the production of resistance genes to broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotics such as piperacillin-tazobactam and meropenem.

Abstract

Buah darah-darahan (Rivina humilis L.) dan Biji Bunga Pukul Empat (Mirabilis jalapa L.) merupakan jenis tanaman liar yang biasa tumbuh dengan sendirinya tanpa ada penanaman khusus yang dilakukan. Buah darah-darahan memiliki warna merah cerah seperti darah, sedangkan biji bunga pukul empat mengandung zat tepung yang licin dan halus sperti talkum. Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah buah darah-darahan bisa digunakan sebagai pewarna dan apakah biji bunga pukul empat dapat digunakan sebagai pengisi pengganti talkum pada sediaan bedak tabur. Formulasi bedak tabur yang dibuat adalah F0 (basis), F1 (dengan pengisi talkum dan pewarna darah-darahan) dan F2 (dengan pengisi biji bunga pukul empat dan pewarna darah-darahan). Evaluasi yang dilakukan meliputi evaluasi sediaan jadi dan uji hedonik. Secara organoleptik, bedak tabur dengan zat tepung biji bunga pukul empat memiliki warna lebih bersih dibandingkan dengan bedak yang menggunakan talkum, dan hasil evaluasi pH, kadar air dan daya alir memenuhi syarat untuk bedak dengan pengisi talkum maupun biji bunga pukul empat. Pada hasil uji hedonik, responden lebih menyukai bedak tabur yang menggunakan basis zat tepung biji bunga pukul empat dibandingkan dengan talkum. Hasil percobaanmenunjukkan bahwa pewarna darah-darahan dapat digunakan sebagai pewarna dalam sediaan bedak tabur. Biji bunga pukul empat bisa digunakan sebagai pengisi untuk menggantikan talkum, karena memiliki warna yang putih bersih seperti talkum, bahkan massa biji bunga pukul empat cenderung lebih ringan dibandingkan dengan talkum.

Abstract

Multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) leads to a reduced cure rate for tuberculosis treatment. The global number of MDR-TB cases remained relatively stable between 2015 and 2020 but increased in 2021. In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated 437,000 MDR-TB cases worldwide, which rose to 450,000 cases in 2021. Various treatment regimens recommended by the WHO require a review of the literature on the efficacy and side effects of drug use in MDR-TB. This review aims to provide updated information that can be used as a reference for the early identification and management of side effects. The article was a narrative review that collected and analyzed information from various international articles on databases such as PubMed, PlosOne, and ScienceDirect from January 2014 to June 2024. A total of six relevant articles were synthesized from 609 articles. The effectiveness of MDR-TB therapy with WHO-recommended drugs has shown a high cure rate (cured>50%). The incidence of side effects in MDR-TB therapy is smaller compared to the effectiveness of treatment. However, a study conducted at Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital in China from July 2019 to December 2020 showed that all study subjects experienced side effects. This included nausea and vomiting from protionamide, gatifloxacin, and ethambutol; hyperuricemia from pyrazinamide, and hyperpigmentation from clofazimine. It is recommended that a therapy regimen be selected based on culture test results, patient conditions, and drug availability in each country.

Abstract

Propolis is a lipid-based compound from honeybees composed of plant wax, resin, and pollen. Due to its poor water solubility, its application is limited to lipid-based formulations with low bioavailability. This study aimed to develop a water-based propolis nano-mist spray with improved dispersion and evaluate its antioxidant activity. The nano-mist formulation was prepared using soy lecithin and Tween 80 in a phosphate buffer base. Evaluations included organoleptic characteristics, pH, particle size, zeta potential, and antioxidant activity by DPPH method. The propolis extract contained flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins. The resulting spray showed a light brown color, a pH of 6.87 ± 0.03, particle size of 272.13 ± 4.25 nm, and zeta potential of -0.433 ± 0.35 mV. Antioxidant testing revealed moderate activity with an IC₅₀ value of 83.63 ± 11.88 ppm. This study supports the potential of nano-mist spray as a promising delivery system for propolis with antioxidant properties suitable for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.

Abstract

Penyimpanan dan penggunaan obat harus memperhatikan Expired Date (ED) dan Beyond Use Date (BUD). Pemahaman BUD di masyarakat Jakarta Utara sangat rendah. Parameter kondisi penyimpanan dan penggunaan obat perlu diperhatikan untuk menjamin kualitas obat. Ketika obat mencapai masa ED dan BUD, obat harus dibuang dengan benar untuk menghindari penyalahgunaan atau risiko buruk bagi lingkungan. Edukasi mengenai ED, BUD, serta pembuangan dan penyimpanan obat perlu dilakukan. Kegiatan dilakukan di Rusun Waduk Pluit pada 6 Mei 2023. Target peserta adalah penduduk Rusun Waduk Pluit dan berusia minimal 18 tahun. Materi diberikan melalui ceramah interaktif, pemutaran video, pembagian flyer, serta pemasangan banner. Materi dievaluasi melalui pre-test dan post-test. Seluruh peserta yang berjumlah 39 orang dapat menjawab 3 atau lebih dari total 5 pertanyaan dengan benar pada post-test. Rata-rata nilai pre-test adalah 3,9 (77,4%) dan nilai post-test adalah 4,5 (90,8%). Evaluasi kegiatan menunjukan tingkat kepuasan yang sangat tinggi dari seluruh peserta (87%), dimana kegiatan   berlangsung sesuai harapan (92%), topik menarik (92%), topik sesuai kebutuhan (87%), pelayanan tim pengabdian (84%) dan proses menanggapi keluhan atau pertanyaan oleh tim pengabdi (92%). Sebanyak 97% peserta bersedia mengikuti kembali kegiatan pengabdian masyrakat yang akan diselenggarakan oleh Program Studi Farmasi, Fakultas Kedokteran dan Ilmu Kesehatan, Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya.

Abstract

Pneumonia, a severe respiratory disease, can have deadly consequences. Increased air pollution in Jakarta can increase the risk of respiratory tract diseases, including Pneumonia. The risk of Pneumonia infection in adults can be reduced by vaccination. The Pharmacy Department of the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia held an in-depth seminar on Pneumonia and vaccination to provide information and invite all people to understand the urgency of vaccination. Educational activities are conducted as online seminars using a video conferencing platform. Two speakers gave interactively educational information about Pneumonia and vaccination, and more than 60 people attended the seminar. Demographic data on participants shows that the gender of most participants was female, the age of most participants was 26-45 years old, and the education level of most participants was university level. Of the participants who attended, as many as 63.7% had never been vaccinated against Pneumonia, and 68.1% were willing to be vaccinated against Pneumonia. In conclusion, this seminar successfully increased the knowledge and awareness of the public about Pneumonia and vaccination.
