Abstract

Capitalism, with its strong influence on culture, economy, and social values, often distracts from the core of Christianity. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the challenges the church faces in maintaining the authority of the Bible amidst the influence of capitalism, as well as offer solutions and steps that can be taken to maintain the purity of the proclamation of God's Word. Capitalism often encourages an excessive focus on materialism, wealth and personal success, which can erode Christian values such as love, humility and self-sacrifice. Churches may be tempted to change the gospel message to better suit the values of capitalism, which can ultimately undermine the purity of God's Word. In addition, there is concern that in a world driven by a market economy, the priorities of the church may shift from ministry and spiritual mission to being more oriented towards economic growth or financial over-management. The question raised is: how can the church remain faithful to the authority of the Bible and proclaim the purity of God's Word in the face of capitalist cultural pressures? To achieve the purpose of writing this article, it begins with a biblical foundation study followed by a theological discussion from a Christian perspective which then presents the church's teaching in facing the challenges of capitalism.

Abstract

This article provides a theological explanation from the perspective of the Old Testament on how theological understanding of the Sabbath year. From the perspective of Old Testament theology, God is the only Creator of heaven, earth (land) and all its contents. Then humans are given the responsibility to cultivate and maintain all creations well. Because land has an important role in human life, land can actually be cultivated in such a way for the survival of creation. From the description of Old Testament theology, this article then develops an implication in Batak culture. In Batak culture, land is considered sacred because it is believed to be a gift from Debata Mulajadi Nabolon (DMN). Without land, humans cannot sustain their survival. The concept of the Sabbath Year (rest) in Leviticus 25:1-7 emphasizes the importance of rest for the land in order to realize that God is the owner of the land. It is a form of worship and has the same meaning in celebrations before God. In the New Testament (NT) Jesus said that God is the rest itself. Jesus emphasized that the Sabbath should not lose its true meaning and purpose, namely to be able to do diaconia.

Abstract

The doctrine of the Imago Dei is a fundamental Christian concept regarding human beings, which can be generally divided into three categories: capacity, function, and relationality, which distinguishes them from other creation. Capacity concerns the inherent abilities of humans, such as reason, emotion, and will. Function concerns humans as social beings and as stewards of themselves, others, and other creations. Relationality addresses the relationship with God as the source of life, both physical and spiritual. In relation to other creations, the Bible teaches that humans are noble creatures, given the image of God and stewardship over nature and other creations. Human dignity and worth are due to the image of God within them. This is a crucial concept for human dignity and human rights. In John Wesley's doctrine, man as the Imago Dei consists of a natural image; a political image; and a moral image. The natural image of God in man includes: free will, intellect, and eternity. God gave man free will, but this free will is a responsible free will, unlike the free will of animals, where humans can distinguish between right and wrong, while animals cannot. Therefore, human freedom of will demands responsibility. Then, humans are given an intellect that exceeds that of other creations of God on earth. Humans with their intellect (reason) can understand the truth.

Abstract

The development of the world of education today is a proof of human existence as a creature created by God who has a higher degree and value than other creations. Intellect, mind, wisdom are more human values than other creations, so that humans receive a mandate to control other creations to meet human needs. But it should be understood that the task of mastering it is also inseparable from the call to maintain and maintain the integrity, sustainability and preservation of God's other creations in this world. Through education, humans have been more enabled to understand and maintain values, functions, existence and qualities than other creations of God who are both in this world. This call is of course very closely related and mutually supportive with the call of the church to voice and accompany humans to maintain the integrity of God's creation in this world. A blend that complements and complements theology (Christianity and church teachings) with education in implementing the teachings of God's Word to maintain the integrity of the existence of God's creation in this world. So that what is voiced in God's Word at the event of creation that "God saw everything is good" can be maintained and continue in the midst of this world. Education shows its role and function as a step to maintain the integrity of God's creation.

Abstract

Humans will never be separated from their culture, and that is the basis for labeling cultured humans. Over time, the culture has developed, which has also received influence from the times. It is not surprising that in the current millennial era, many values from culture have faded, or even experienced a transformation of meaning because they have to be adapted to the millennial era. Of course the study of theology, dogmatics, and practical ethics will not ignore the understanding of this reality. This article explains the Christian perspective on cultured humans in the millennial era. Used qualitative (literature) research methods, this article describe the Biblical basis of cultured humans from both the perspective of the Old Testament and the New Testament. This article develops Christian teachings on cultured humans in the context and millennial era through the perspectives of theologians, and then explains how the thread relates to the theological documents of the Huria Kristen Batak Protestant (HKBP) church in particular. Through this article, concrete contextualization from a Christian perspective on cultured humans in the millennial era will be clearly broken down, especially in the pluralistic Indonesian context.
