Abstract

The dual banking system in Indonesia intensifies competition between conventional and Islamic banks, impacting operational costs and income. From 2015 to 2024, the BOPO (Operational Cost to Operational Income) ratio of Islamic banks fluctuated between 97% and 76%, reflecting inefficiencies influenced by internal and external factors. This study examines the determinants of BOPO in Indonesian Islamic banking using quantitative methods, specifically multiple linear regression analysis of monthly data (2015–2024). The independent variables include bank-specific metrics (Capital Adequacy Ratio/CAR and Return on Assets/ROA) and macroeconomic indicators (BI Rate, inflation, and economic growth). The results indicate that CAR, ROA, BI Rate, and inflation significantly and negatively affect BOPO, suggesting that higher capital adequacy, profitability, and interest rates, along with controlled inflation, improve operational efficiency. Conversely, economic growth shows no significant impact. These findings provide critical insights for Islamic bank managers and policymakers to enhance efficiency through strategic capital allocation, risk management, and macroeconomic stability measures. Keywords: CAR, ROA, BI Rate, Inflation, Economic Growth, and BOPO.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the role of the Agricultural Waqf Bank in enhancing food security for vulnerable communities in poverty-prone regions, with a secondary focus on the relationship between household income and food vulnerability.Design/methodology: A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a household survey of 212 vulnerable farming households in South Sumatra, Indonesia, with a qualitative conceptual analysis to develop the Agricultural Waqf Bank model. Logistic regression was applied to estimate the probability of food vulnerability based on household income, while the qualitative analysis explored the model’s design as a sustainable financing mechanism.Findings: Higher household income significantly lowers the likelihood of food vulnerability by enhancing purchasing power and access to food. However, income alone remains insufficient to address structural barriers such as unstable employment, low agricultural productivity, and limited market access. These findings highlight the potential of the Agricultural Waqf Bank model as a sustainable mechanism that integrates productive waqf assets with microfinance, capacity-building, and collective farming strategies to reduce food insecurity among vulnerable communities.Practical Implication: The proposed model provides policymakers and Islamic social finance institutions with a strategic policy design to reduce food insecurity among vulnerable communities by integrating microfinance, technical support, and community empowerment through waqf-based mechanisms.Originality/Value: This study offers a novel and integrated contribution by linking Islamic social finance with food security and community-based poverty reduction, thereby advancing theoretical discourse and informing practical policy design.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology (ICT) has had a significant impact on various aspects of life, one of which is the world of education. In the field of education, there has been a significant change, namely the use of digital technology in the academic evaluation process, especially in the implementation of exams in schools. In the current digital era, the use of computer-based testing (CBT) applications is a modern, effective and efficient solution to support the academic evaluation system in learning. An innovative digital solution through the use of digital technology is needed to support the academic evaluation process at MA Nurul Ihsan Baturusa. The method used includes several stages, starting from problem identification, solution design, to implementation and evaluation of activities in the field. The socialization and mentoring activities for the implementation of the computer-based testing application carried out at MA Nurul Ihsan Baturusa went very well and received a positive response from all parties at MA Nurul Ihsan. This activity yielded several important achievements, demonstrating a transformation in the academic evaluation system within MA Nurul Ihsan. The socialization and mentoring activities for the implementation of the computer-based exam (CBT) application at MA Nurul Ihsan Baturusa were carried out successfully and successfully achieved the goals envisioned by the PKM team. Through a participatory approach, this activity improved teachers' and staff's understanding of digital evaluation technology and increased MA Nurul Ihsan's readiness to adopt a computer-based exam system.

Abstract

Background: The digital transformation of tourism has redefined how familiarity with destinations is constructed, blending experiential encounters with vast informational exposure. Understanding how these distinct sources of familiarity influence cognitive and affective image formation and subsequently visit intention is crucial, particularly for emerging island destinations characterized by limited global recognition and perceived risk factors.Purpose: This study aims to: (1) develop and validate a multidimensional framework distinguishing experiential and informational familiarity, (2) examine the differential impacts of cognitive versus affective destination image components on visit intention, and (3) establish an integrated familiarity–image–intention model tailored to emerging island destinations, with Bangka Belitung, Indonesia, serving as the empirical context.Design/methodology/approach: Employing a rigorous quantitative methodology, we conducted a comprehensive online survey with 544 domestic travelers. Measurement instruments for familiarity and affective image evaluation were carefully designed and adapted from seminal works. The collected data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 3.0. Reliability tests, convergent validity, and discriminant validity assessments were applied to ensure robust psychometric properties.Findings: The results reveal that both experiential and informational familiarity significantly influence cognitive and affective destination images, with affective image exerting a stronger predictive effect on visit intention. A direct positive relationship between familiarity and visit intention was also identified, independent of the mediating role of destination image. These findings support the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) model, positioning familiarity as the stimulus, destination image as the organismic response, and visit intention as the behavioral outcome. Conclusion: This research demonstrates that affective destination image serves as a crucial mediator between familiarity and visit intention, particularly for island destinations. The findings provide both a theoretical framework for understanding tourist psychology and actionable insights for destination marketing organizations seeking to enhance visitation through targeted image management strategies.Originality/value: The study contributes by: (1) integrating dual familiarity types with dual image dimensions, (2) providing empirical evidence from understudied island contexts, and (3) resolving theoretical ambiguities concerning the relative importance of image pathways. BUMDes Jebus, located in West Bangka Regency, has significant potential in the food security sector; however, its management still faces challenges, including the absence of a structured business plan and limited managerial capacity among its administrators. This community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of BUMDes administrators in developing a comprehensive and applicable business plan for food security products. The method applied was a combination of outreach, training, and mentoring for 15 participants, consisting of BUMDes administrators, village officials, and local food entrepreneurs. The stages included initial coordination, material delivery, technical training, document drafting, and evaluation through pre–post tests. The results show an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in formulating adaptive marketing strategies, preparing realistic financial projections, and designing measurable operational steps. The resulting business plan serves as a strategic guide for BUMDes to sustainably develop its food security business. This program demonstrates that targeted interventions through training and mentoring can strengthen the role of BUMDes as a driver of the village economy while supporting the achievement of local food security. Keywords: BUMDes, Business Plan, Food Security, Economic Independence, Purple Village
