Abstract

Mycorrhizal fungi are beneficial soil microorganisms that establish mutualistic associations with plant roots, significantly enhancing nutrient and water uptake under abiotic stress conditions. In West Kalimantan, limited soil water content frequently constrains rice cultivation, negatively impacting plant growth and yield. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of mycorrhizal inoculation on the morphophysiological traits of rice under varying levels of soil water content. The experiment was conducted from February to June 2022 in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, using a split-split-plot randomized complete block design. The main plot factor was mycorrhizal inoculation (inoculated and uninoculated), the subplot factor was soil water content (100%, 80%, and 60%), and the sub-subplot factor was rice variety (Inpari 32 and Inpari 42). The results demonstrated that mycorrhizal inoculation significantly improved rice tolerance to moderate drought stress through adaptive morphophysiological mechanisms. This was indicated by increased phosphorus uptake efficiency and enhanced net assimilation rate, even at 60% soil water content. These physiological improvements contributed to better plant morphological development, including greater plant height (84.73 cm), dry biomass (8.36 g), number of panicles (15.83 panicles), panicle length (22.21 cm), number of grains per panicle (189.96 grains), and grain weight per clump (72.31 g). Abstract

The growth and yield of rice in limited soil water are expected to increase through the application of mycorrhizae due to the increasing root ability to absorb water and nutrients from the soil. The study aimed to determine the role of mycorrhizae on the growth and yield of rice plants in different soil water content. The study was conducted in Mempawah District, West Kalimantan, in February-June 2022. The experiment was arranged in a split-plot randomized complete block design with main plots of mycorrhizae treatment on seedlings (without and with mycorrhizae application), and subplots of soil water content (100%, 80%, 60%). The results showed that mycorrhizae could colonize 60-80% of roots and increase phosphorus absorption at up to 60% of soil water content. Application of mycorrhizae improved plant growth up to 80% of soil water content for the maximum number of a tiller, and 60% of soil water content for the leaf area. Mycorrhizae performed better to increase yield at up to 80% soil water content on the number of productive tillers and grain index of 1,000 seeds, and it performed better at a soil water content of 100% for grain weight per hill. Abstract

The application of dolomite and shrimp waste liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) is expected to improve the quality of peat soil to support the growth and yield of peanuts. The study was aimed at the role of dolomite and shrimp waste LOF in the development and yield of peanuts on peat soil. The study was conducted in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, from April to August 2024. A factorial completely randomized design was used for the field experiment. The treatment factors were the dosage of dolomite (3, 6, and 9 tons ha-1) and the concentration of shrimp waste LOF (200, 300, and 400 mL L-1). The results showed that using dolomite and shrimp waste LOF increased the growth and yield of peanuts on peat soil. The interaction of dolomite 6 tons ha-1 and shrimp waste LOF 400 mL L-1 effectively increased root volume. The best individual dolomite treatment level for peanut growth was 6 tons ha-1, and for production, it was 9 tons ha-1. The best individual shrimp waste LOF treatment level for growth was 300 mL L-1, and for production, it was 400 mL L-1. Keywords: amelioration; peanut production; soil fertility

Abstract

Soil amendment is a key factor in improving peat soil suitability for agriculture from the perspective of its fertility and quality. Red mud is potentially used as a peat soil ameliorant. The study aimed to evaluate red mud application as an ameliorant and application of Rhizobium on peat soil for growing edamame. The research was conducted at Tanjungpura University, Pontianak, from February to October 2024. A completely randomized design factorial was used to compile field experiments. The ameliorant factor consisted of 4 levels: control (dolomite 8 tons ha-1) and Red Mud of 10 tons ha-1, 15 tons ha-1, and 20 tons ha-1. The second factor was without and with Rhizobium. The application of Red Mud as an ameliorant increased pH, Na, and P2O5 levels and increased base saturation in peat soil. The Red Mud increased Na absorption in edamame tissues and increased pod yield. The highest edamame yield was reached with 20 tons ha-1 of red mud which was similar to with 8 tons ha-1 dolomite. Rhizobium has a role in supporting the formation of better root nodules. Keywords: crop yield; microorganisms; red mud; soil chemistry; soybean

Abstract

The application of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can enhance the fertility of peat soils and reduce the requirement for NPK fertilization on the plat. The study aimed to evaluate the role of AMF in improving the growth and yield of bird’s eye chili and in supporting NPK fertilizer efficiency on peat soil. The experiment was conducted in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan, from July to November 2024, using a factorial completely randomized design. The first factor consisted of three levels of AMF application without AMF, AMF sourced from pineapple vegetation, and AMF sourced from weed vegetation. The second factor consisted of four levels of NPK fertilizer dosage 100% recommended NPK, 75% recommended NPK, 50% recommended NPK, and 25% recommended NPK. The results showed that the application of AMF significantly improved the growth and yield of bird’s eye chili on peat soil and enhanced the efficiency of NPK fertilization. The interaction between AMF and NPK dosages indicated that plants inoculated with AMF, particularly AMF from pineapple vegetation, exhibited greater plant height, higher plant dry weight, earlier flowering, and higher fruit weight per plant compared to plants without AMF across all fertilizer levels. The most optimal effect of AMF was observed at the 50% NPK dosage, which produced the best growth and yield performance, indicating that AMF application can reduce chemical fertilizer requirements without compromising crop productivity.
