Abstract

Abstract:Ngantang, a region in Malang, East Java, is known for its local history detailing the struggle of Karaeng Galesong. Karaeng Galesong, a son of Sultan Hassanuddin from the Kingdom of Gowa in Makassar, actively fought against the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in East Java during the 17th century. After his prolonged struggle, Karaeng Galesong ultimately passed away and was laid to rest in Ngantang. Despite Karaeng Galesong's renown in Ngantang, numerous students in the area remain unfamiliar with the details of his struggle. This unfamiliarity stems from a dearth of references or educational materials pertaining to this particular aspect of local history. To address this issue, researchers developed the 'Historical Module and Lapbook' (HIMLAP) teaching materials, focusing on history of Karaeng Galesong's 17th-century struggle against the VOC in East Java. The objective is to deepen Ngantang students' understanding of their local history and assess HIMLAP's effectiveness as a teaching tool. HIMLAP, an innovative educational tool, merges a module with a lapbook, offering students an engaging and visually appealing learning experience. This research employs Sugiyono's Research and Development (R&D) methodology. However, this research and development phase did not progress to mass production. The validation tests conducted on the materials and teaching resources revealed that the HIMLAP teaching materials, focusing on history of Karaeng Galesong's 17th Century struggle against the VOC in East Java, are exceptionally suitable for pilot testing. In both small and large group trials, an increase in student understanding was observed, as evidenced by the improvement in scores from pretest to posttest. Given these positive outcomes, it can be concluded that the HIMLAP, detailing Karaeng Galesong's struggle, is highly feasible as a local history teaching resource in enhancing student understanding. Abstract

In the Merdeka curriculum, local history is one of the essential materials. One of the most critical periods in local history in Malang is the cultuurstelsel period, but currently, there are no teaching materials about this period. HIMO is a printed local history module about the cultuurstelsel period with media integration that allows students to various conditions (regular and inclusive). This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of HIMO in improving local history understanding and learning motivation. This research method is R&D using the ADDIE model. In the analysis stage, the researcher analyzed student needs and the curriculum, which was continued with the design stage. In the development stage, HIMO was declared very feasible by material experts (average score of 98%) and teaching materials experts (average score of 89%) with several revisions. Furthermore, the implementation stage was carried out in an inclusive school in Malang (101 students as subjects) with research instruments in the form of comprehension tests and learning motivation questionnaires. Based on the implementation results, it was found that HIMO can improve understanding (94% of students) and learning motivation (average score 77%). Based on these results, at the evaluation stage, HIMO was declared suitable as local history teaching material for inclusive schools.

Abstract

Ken Angrok or Sri Ranggah Rajasa Amurwabhumi is one of the famous historical figures during the Hindu-Buddhist kingdom as the founder of the Singhasari or Tumapel kingdom, which was established in 1222. Although his figure is very well-known, the origin and truth of his story cannot be ascertained because no primary source has been found in the form of an inscription issued directly by Ken Angrok. Sources that explain and mention Ken Angrok are non-contemporary sources, namely the Pararaton and Negarakrtagama kakawins, as well as inscriptions from the Wisnuwarddhana era (the fourth king of Singhasari or Tumapel) and inscriptions from the Majapahit era. This article was written to examine the truth of the Ken Angrok figure in history using three theories of truth, namely coherence, correspondence, and pragmatism. The method used in this study is the historical research method, and then analyzed using a descriptive analytical model with an approach to the theory of truth in philosophy. By using this theory of truth, it was concluded that the Ken Angrok figure was a real figure in history, although several things cannot be ascertained due to the lack of supporting sources.

Abstract

In this digital era, many historical narratives are vulnerable to misinformation and biased interpretations that circulate freely on social media and online platforms. This requires students to develop critical thinking skills that can be improved through history learning. This study aims to develop teaching materials based on conceptual achievement and creative problem-solving models to improve students' critical thinking skills in history learning. The method used in this study is R&D with the ADDIE model. In the analysis stage, the process involves identifying core problems and understanding students' needs. The design stage focuses on planning teaching materials. The actual instructional product is created during the development stage, including content, media, and student activities. The implementation stage involves testing the developed teaching materials in a real classroom environment (conducted on 32 grade XI students of SMA Labschool Jakarta). Finally, the evaluation stage assesses the effectiveness of the teaching materials in meeting the intended learning objectives. The study's results showed that the developed teaching materials effectively improved students' critical thinking skills, as evidenced by a significant increase in pretest and posttest scores (p-value < 0.05). Further effectiveness was measured using N-gain analysis, which indicated effectiveness in the moderate category, with a 32% increase. Expert validation from content and media specialists also confirmed a very high level of feasibility (> 80%). Thus, teaching materials focusing on conceptual achievement and creative problem-solving can be an alternative to traditional history learning, encouraging students to think critically and gain a deeper understanding of history.
