Abstract

This research aims to design and developing a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) leak monitoring system in the cold storage cooling system on the Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) ship by utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology. HFC leaks in cooling systems can cause environmental hazards and operational inefficiencies. The proposed system integrates sensors and IoT devices to continuously monitor HFC levels, detect leaks in real-time, and provide instant alerts to crew and management. The system architecture includes sensors for HFC detection, a microcontroller for data processing, and a communication module for data transmission to a central monitoring platform. Real-time data can be accessed through a user-friendly interface, enabling timely intervention and maintenance. Initial testing shows that the system is effective in identifying and reporting HFC leaks, potentially reducing environmental impacts and improving the safety and efficiency of cold storage operations on AHTS vessels. Further development and extensive field testing are planned to refine the system and validate its performance across a wide range of operational conditions.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze the primary causes of overheating in the CAT 18 Auxiliary Engine aboard the AHTS Logindo Stamina vessel and to evaluate its impact on the vessel’s operational performance. Overheating has been found to significantly reduce Engine efficiency, increase fuel consumption, and potentially cause blackouts that endanger navigational safety. The investigation identified three main causes: cracking of the seawater pump cover, failure of the thermostat due to prolonged use, and clogging of the sea chest strainer by marine debris. A qualitative descriptive method was applied, involving direct observation and interviews with the ship’s Engine crew. The mitigation efforts included repairing the seawater pump cover using high-temperature-resistant Devcon adhesive, replacing the damaged thermostat, and implementing a regular Plan Maintenance System (PMS). The findings underscore the critical importance of proper cooling system management and routine maintenance discipline in preventing overheating and maintaining the reliable operation of auxiliary Engines aboard ships.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the suboptimal performance of hydraulic pump system on hatch cover performance on MV. Emerald Indah using USG (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth) method and data collection techniques in the form of observation, documents, and interview. The purpose of this study is to determine the causes, effect and efforts in solving the problems discussed. The results of the study indicate that several factors cause the hydraulic pump system to not function optimally , including dirty filters, leak in the hydraulic pump and pipe, and operation that is not in accordance with procedures. The effect of the suboptimal hydraulic pressure which ultimately becomes the main problem that inhibits the hatch cover opening process. To overcome this problem, improvements are needed such as periodic filter cleaning, replacement of leaking components, and increasing crew understanding of operational procedures. This research is expected to provide insight for related parties in improving the performanceof the hydraulic pump system and the efficiency of the loading and unloading process on ships.

Abstract

This study discusses the causes of leakage in cargo oil pumps, which play a crucial role in the discharge operation of tankers carrying oil, chemicals, and gas. Regular maintenance is essential to prevent damage that could hinder the ship's operations. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data gathered from observations, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The analysis is conducted using Fishbone to identify the root causes of the problem. The results show that leakage occurs due to the misalignment of the pump shaft. This misalignment causes excessive vibration at high speeds, damaging components, especially the carbon seal face of the mechanical seal, leading to leakage of cargo. Preventive measures include regular and scheduled maintenance, proper lubrication, routine inspection while the pump is running, and alignment checks to ensure the shaft is straight. If any issues are found, repair or replacement with new parts is necessary to ensure the pump operates efficiently and the discharge process runs smoothly.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh kedisiplinan kerja ABK mesin terhadap kegiatan dinas jaga dan dampaknya pada kelancaran operasional kamar mesin. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan analisis regresi linier. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang mencakup variabel kedisiplinan kerja (X1) sebagai variabel bebas dan kegiatan dinas jaga (X2) sebagai variabel dependen/terikat, dan kelancaran operasional kamar mesin (Y) sebagai variabel terkontrol.  Maka variabel dapat disimpulkan menjadi X1→ X2 → Y. Sampel penelitian meliputi seluruh ABK bagian mesin, mulai dari chief engineer hingga engine cadet. Hasil uji validitas menunjukkan seluruh item valid dengan reliabilitas sangat tinggi (Cronbach’s Alpha > 0,98). Analisis deskriptif menunjukkan kedisiplinan ABK mesin berkategori baik, terutama pada aspek ketepatan waktu dan kepatuhan prosedur keselamatan. Analisis regresi menunjukkan koefisien pengaruh signifikan sebesar 0,821 (X1→ X2) dan 0,794 (X2 → Y). Indikator kelancaran operasional meliputi akurasi pencatatan parameter, keandalan alat bantu, dan respons cepat terhadap alarm. Temuan ini membuktikan disiplin ABK adalah faktor krusial untuk menjamin operasi kamar mesin yang aman dan efisien. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan peningkatan pelatihan kedisiplinan dan evaluasi rutin guna menjaga mutu operasional kapal.
