Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is one of the most common impacts of chronic malnutrition in the world. Banjar Regency is one of the regencies in South Kalimantan that has experienced a significant increase in stunting cases. Mothers often act as the primary caregivers of children, thus all actions taken by mothers related to care including fulfilling nutritional needs can affect the health and nutritional status of their children. It is important for a mother to have good knowledge about fulfilling nutrition for children, fulfilling immunizations, maintaining sanitation and treating infectious diseases in children. One way to gain knowledge is from experience. Mothers with stunted children have experiences that can be lessons regarding the actions taken during treatment, the obstacles felt and how to prevent stunting in the next generation. Objective: This study aims to explore the experiences of mothers in caring for children with stunting in the riverside of ??Banjar Regency. Method: A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was used in this study. Data were collected using the in-depth interview method and analyzed using the sequence: transcribing, categorizing, using N-Vivo 12. The population in this study were all mothers who had stunted children in the riverside of ??Banjar Regency. In this study, mothers who became participants were selected using a purposive sampling method, namely data was taken from information from health center officers in Banjar Regency with inclusion criteria having experience caring for children with stunting, being able to communicate well and being willing to be participants. Data saturation was obtained on the 16th participant. Result: The results of this study identified 5 themes, namely children's eating habits, children's conditions, mothers' efforts, mothers' difficulties and the role of fathers. Children's eating habits include incomplete menus, eating little, eating irregularly, eating without side dishes, and snacks before eating. The condition of stunted children in this study was slow development, frequent illness, and poor sleep quality. Mother’s efforts were to provide exclusive breastfeeding and routinely go to posyandu. The difficulties faced by mothers were difficulty in accessing health facilities, economic problems, children who did not want to be separated from their mothers, confusion in handling stunting and the presence of a closed mouth movement in children. The role of fathers included collaborating with mothers in parenting and being less involved in parenting. Conclusion: The conclusion obtained in this study was that 5 themes were obtained from the experience of mothers in caring for children with stunting in the riverside of Banjar Regency.

Abstract

Green mustard greens (Brassica juncea L.) are a type of horticultural plant that is widely cultivated in Indonesia. However, mustard greens production has continued to decline annually from 2020 to 2023. Efforts that can be made to optimize mustard greens production include increasing soil fertility by providing soil conditioners, such as rice husk biochar and chicken manure bokashi. This study aims to determine the provision of a combination of biochar and bokashi fertilizer that is good for increasing mustard greens' growth. This research was conducted in Sungai Janiah, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency with an altitude of 490 meters above sea level from September to December 2024. The design used was Randomized Block Design (RAK) with treatments P0 = without organic fertilizer, P1 = 15 tons/ha Biochar (BC) P2 = 20 tons/ha Biochar (BC), P3 = 15 tons/ha Bokasi (Bok) P4 = 20 tons/ha Bokasi (Bok), P5 = 5 tons / ha biochar + 10 tons / ha Bokasi, P6 = 10 tons / ha biochar + 10 tons/ha Bokasi. The results of the research showed that the combination of 10 tons/ha biochar + 10 tons/ha Bokasi was significant on the parameters of plant height and consumption weight. Still, it was no significant on plant leaf width and number of leaves.

Abstract

Background: Maternal and neonatal mortality remain significant challenges in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in rural Indonesia, where village midwives serve as the first responders to obstetric emergencies. Despite numerous digital health initiatives, fragmented systems and poor usability often hinder timely emergency management. This study aimed to explore the lived experiences, challenges, and expectations of community midwives in designing an effective maternal–neonatal emergency digital application in Tanah Laut District, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Methods: This qualitative study employed a Husserlian descriptive phenomenological approach. Ten active village midwives were recruited through purposive sampling; inclusion required at least one year of experience, while those unable to attend or refusing participation were excluded. Data were collected in August 2024 through a focus group discussion (FGD) lasting 120 minutes. Data were analyzed using Colai zzi’s phenomenological analysis method, and reporting followed the COREQ guideline. Results: Five interrelated themes emerged: (1) Maternal emergencies as multidimensional crises, (2) Informal communication as the real emergency network, (3) Fragmented and burdensome reporting systems, (4) Digital and infrastructural barriers in rural practice, and (5) Expectations for an integrated, user-friendly digital solution. These themes progress conceptually from the initial crisis experience, through the mobilization of informal networks due to systemic barriers, culminating in user-driven expectations for digital design. Conclusion: The study highlights midwives’ resilience amid digital fragmentation. Policymakers and developers should adopt participatory co-design approaches involving midwives to ensure the usability and sustainability of maternal emergency digital systems
