Abstract

Abstract

The ability to understand concepts is a crucial skill for comprehending, providing examples, and applying concepts, thereby fostering meaningful learning. However, students’ mathematical conceptual understanding is still relatively low. To achieve meaningful learning, improvements are necessary through a specific approach, namely the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI). In achieving learning objectives, lessons need to be well-designed, one of which is through the Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT). This study designs an HLT for logarithm concepts using the PMRI approach to improve students’ mathematical conceptual understanding at a high school (SMA/MA) in Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province, employing a design research method. The research instruments include Student Activity Sheets, questionnaires, and conceptual understanding tests. The data collection techniques consist of interviews, observations, tests, and documentation. The research results indicate that the designed HLT is valid, and students can discover the concept of logarithms. After learning with the PMRI approach, students’ responses to PMRI reached 75.5%, while their mathematical conceptual understanding after the PMRI approach was categorized as high for 46.7% of students, moderate for 36.7%, and low for 16.7%. Abstract

This researcher aims to determine whether there is an increase in Fluency and Accuracy by using the Collaborative Learning Method for class VII students at SMP Negeri 2 Kelara. The researcher used a pre-experimental approach with a quantitative design in analyzing the data. The instrument used was a speaking test consisting of a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The population was class VII students and the sample was class VII.1 which was selected using a total sampling technique. The total number of students was 25 students. The results showed that after implementing the collaborative learning method in English learning, it could improve students' Speaking Performance in Fluency and Accuracy in class VII.1 SMP Negeri 2 Kelara. This is evidenced by the average value of students who experienced an increase in pre-test students on fluency got 33.76 and post-test got 40.08. In addition, pre-test students on accuracy got 40.80 and post-test got 54.12. From the results of testing the hypothesis of this research are Pair 1, namely pre-test and post-test fluency is 0.000 (p < 0.05) and vocabulary in Pair 2, the significance value (2-tailed) from pre-test to post-test is 0.000 (p < 0.05). Therefore, the used of the Collaborative Learning Method has a significant effect on improving Speaking Performance in fluency and accuracy in class VII.1 at SMP Negeri 2 Kelara.

Abstract

Writing remains one of the most demanding skills for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, particularly in producing descriptive texts that require lexical variety, grammatical accuracy, and mechanical precision. Traditional approaches in Indonesian classrooms often emphasize form-focused drills and teacher-centered instruction, which may limit students’ engagement and creativity. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Role–Audience–Format–Topic (RAFT) strategy in enhancing senior secondary students’ descriptive writing performance. A quasi-experimental design was employed with 48 twelfth-grade students from MA Batusitanduk, divided into an experimental group taught using RAFT (n = 24) and a control group taught through conventional methods (n = 24). Both groups completed a pre-test and post-test assessed on vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics using a validated analytic rubric. Results revealed that the experimental group achieved a significantly higher mean post-test score (M = 72.33) than the control group (M = 65.33), t(46) = -5.432, p < .001, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.52, 95% CI [8.32, 15.02]). These findings confirm that RAFT effectively scaffolds planning and audience awareness, leading to substantial improvement in descriptive writing. The study offers theoretical implications for integrating cognitive and genre-based pedagogy, and practical recommendations for EFL teachers seeking to promote meaningful and engaging writing instruction in secondary education.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of developing worksheets (LKPD) that are tailored to the demands of the technological era. Therefore, the researcher developed an electronic LKPD based on Liveworksheet with the cooperative model of Numbered Head Together (NHT). This development was carried out to enhance students' mathematical problem-solving skills in the topic of curved surface solids. The researcher employed the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model, which is a systematic, structured, directed, and planned model. The research utilized a questionnaire as the research instrument, which was distributed to ninth-grade students in a junior high school (SMP). The questionnaire aimed to gather information about the characteristics of the students and their needs regarding the developed LKPD. Based on the analysis of the needs, the researcher successfully developed an electronic LKPD using the Liveworksheet platform. This LKPD product offers the advantages of efficiency and effectiveness, incorporating audio-visual elements and student discussions to enhance understanding and problem-solving abilities. The development is expected to provide an interactive and engaging learning experience, helping students to develop their mathematical problem-solving skills
