Abstract

This study aims to measure the contribution of self-compassion to the body image of students of SMKN 1 Karanganyar. The approach used in this research is a quantitative approach with an ex-post-facto design. The sample in this study amounted to 279 students from a total population of 926 students who were taken using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The instrument used is a self-compassion scale developed by researchers based on Neff's (2015) theory, which totals 29 items, and a body image scale developed based on Cash and Pruzinsky's (2002) theory, totaling 41 items. The validity test results for the self-compassion scale get a value range of 0.493-0.731, and the body image scale has a value range of 0.271-0.659. The reliability test results of the self-compassion scale obtained results of 0.918 and the body image scale of 0.947. Hypothesis testing using simple linear regression analysis with the results showed that self-compassion contributed 31.4% with the coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.314, ρ < 0.05). Based on these results, it can be seen that self-compassion significantly influences body image in SMK Negeri 1 Karanganyar students. Future researchers can research other variables that affect body image, such as gratitude, self-esteem, and social comparison.

Abstract

This article analyzes the integration of Islamic law and customary law in shaping the religious identity of the Malay Buyan community in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. While Islamic law plays a central role in regulating social and religious life, local customary law remains deeply embedded in the community’s legal consciousness and socio-cultural framework. Previous studies have often treated these two legal systems as separate or even contradictory. However, this study challenges such a dichotomous perspective by demonstrating that Islamic law and customary law engage in an ongoing process of negotiation, resulting in an adaptive and contextually dynamic legal framework. Using a socio-legal approach, this research collects data through in-depth interviews with ten key informants, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Islamic law does not replace customary law but is instead integrated into the local legal system, influencing various aspects of social order, family structures, and the sustainable management of natural resources. This integration is evident in the use of Islamic legal terminology, the substance of legal norms, the mechanisms for customary fines, and the role of Islamic religious leaders in the codification of customary law. These findings challenge the prevailing bipolar view that positions Islamic law and customary law as inherently opposing systems. Instead, this study highlights a dynamic and integrative interaction between the two legal traditions, ensuring both social harmony and legal continuity. Ultimately, the article argues that the coexistence of Islamic and customary law is not a source of conflict but a mutually reinforcing and evolving process that contributes to strengthening both religious and cultural identity in a predominantly Muslim society.

Abstract

Abstract. This study highlights the effectiveness of the Time Zone in English Language (Ti-ZEL) program in improving speaking abilities among academic staff at one of the public universities in Pontianak, Indonesia. This was a mixed-method study that included some participants with provoked tests and treatments. Other forms of observation and interviews were conducted to evaluate the overall obstacles and success factors of the Ti-ZEL program. The program significantly improved speaking abilities with measurable progress (p < 0.001). The findings underscore the importance of providing opportunities and supportive environments for English practice within habituation programs. Success factors included respondents' basic English skills, an engaging and practical approach, and consistent commitment. Challenges included technical and non-technical barriers, limited proficiency, internal factors (job exhaustion, mental strain), and external distractions (workload, other activities). This cultivated approach greatly governs the level of skill improvement in speaking English. This strongly concludes the necessity of enhancing the English language skill among the academic staff of the university using the Ti-ZEL habituation model. Implementing this approach to the academic staff was new and at first unfamiliar but it proved to be successful. Keywords: Ti-ZEL, English habituation program, speaking abilities, academic staff

Abstract

The integration of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) and universal design for learning (UDL) in special education remains challenging, particularly for intellectual disabilities (ID) learners in East Malaysia. This study investigated how special education teachers utilize technology tools and integrate UDL principles with TPACK frameworks to support ID learners, addressing the need for inclusive education aligned with sustainable development goal 4 (SDG 4). Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis from four purposively selected special education teachers in two East Malaysian secondary schools offering special education integration programs (SEIP). Thematic analysis revealed three key findings: i) low technology supports for accessibility and engagement; ii) high technology integration for personalization and empowerment; and iii) integrating of TPACK and UDL principles challenges due to limited understanding and resource constraints. The study concluded that while teachers show commitment to technology use, there is a pressing need for targeted professional development to enhance TPACK and UDL competencies. These findings align with SDG 4’s focus on quality education for all, emphasizing how enhanced teacher training and effective technology integration can significantly improve the quality and inclusivity of education for ID learners.

Abstract

This study focuses on designing and developing the Citizenship Education model to strengthen students' character. A continuous effort is needed to create several learning models that strengthen students' positive character. Hence, they remain enthusiastic about completing the lecture on time and are not eroded by life's challenges. It used development research. The analysis results are obtained from several stages: the first stage is an analysis by identifying problems and carrying out task analysis, the second stage is a design by concluding learning objectives, the third stage is a development by creating patterns and utilizing digital media, the fourth stage is an implementation by applying learning pattern that has been designed, and the fifth stage is an evaluation by observing of whether the learning pattern made can be appropriate based on initial beliefs. Referring to the development of the ADDIE instructional model, the next stage is adapted to develop the Citizenship Education learning model called MPC (Modification of Project Citizen). This model is designed to be based on digital media and is produced by considering the implementation of Citizenship Education in strengthening student character.
