Abstract

One of the national movements implemented by the Indonesian Catholic Bishops' Conference for Catholics throughout Indonesia is National Scripture Month which falls in September. During this month, Indonesian Catholics under the coordination of the Indonesian Biblical Institute held catechesis activities to encourage people to read and love the Word of God in the Holy Bible. In 2023, National Scripture Month will be held under the theme "God is the Source of Love and Salvation". So that all Catholics can understand the catechesis material for National Scripture Month, outreach is needed. In order for facilitators to be able to carry out the task of leading catechesis, catechesis refreshment is needed for facilitators. This is also needed by the Santo Kristoforus Ba'a Rote Parish. So, activities to disseminate materials for National Scripture Month and refresher catechesis are carried out as a form of service to the community. The methods used are lectures and discussions. The expected result is the congregation's understanding of the material for National Holy Bible Month 2023 and the facilitator's skills in leading the congregation's catechesis are refreshed.

Abstract

Masa adven adalah masa persiapan diri menyongsong Natal bagi umat Katolik. Setiap tahun pada masa persiapan ini, umat di stasi St. Petrus Haukoto, melakukan kegiatan katekese namun umat tidak memahami dengan baik bahan katekese terutama yang berbasis Kitab Suci, maka kegiatan katekese ini banyak diabaikan oleh umat karena menurut mereka katekese tanpa dipahami hanyalah membosankan. Hal ini diperoleh dari hasil observasi dan wawancara awal dengan para tokoh umat di stasi ini. Maka pada tahun ini umat berniat untuk dapat memahami dan mendalami dengan baik bahan katekese yang dibagikan oleh Komisi Kateketik Keuskupan Agung Kupang, olehnya dibutuhkan seorang fasilitator yang mampu menjadi pembimbing dan motivator, maka tim PkM menjadi jawaban atas harapan umat tersebut. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini, selain menjawab kerinduan umat juga untuk mendalami Kitab Suci bersama umat sebagai sumber iman yang merupakan inspirasi hidup, terutama dalam mempersiapkan diri dengan baik menyongsong Natal. Selain itu, umat diajak untuk dapat meningkatkan rasa percaya diri dan keberanian dalam berketekese dan berbagi pengalaman iman. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, diskusi dan sharing iman. Hasilnya, umat dapat memahami secara baik bahan katekese pada masa adven, umat yang awalnya masih ragu dalam berbicara, mulai memiliki rasa percara diri dan keberanian dalam sharing iman dan pada ahkirnya umat merasa terbantu karena dapat mempersiapkan diri dengan baik menyongsong Natal.

Abstract

Pemahaman yang baik tentang ekologi terutama dalam iman Katolik akan berpengaruh pada keharmonisan hidup dengan alam, diri sendiri dan sesama. Siswa seminari sebagai mediator umat dan penerus gembala umat perlu memahami dengan baik hubungan antara ekologi dan iman Katolik. Masalah yang dihadapi di Balide adalah mayoritas umat beragama Katolik namun penghayan iman dalam pemeliharaan lingkungan hidup tidaklah nampak. Di satu sisi adanya penebangan pohon secara liar dan apabila ditegur maka akan terjadi keributan dan perselisihan di sisi lain para siswa seminari kurang memahami hubungan antara Ekologi dan iman Katolik yang berpuncak pada perayaan Ekaristi. Untuk menjawab masalah ini dibutuhkan para ahli untuk memberikan pemahaman tentang hubungan antara iman Katolik dan ekologi bagi para siswa seminari, karena melalui mereka sebagai mediator kabar baik, maka umatpun akan memperoleh pencerahan yang baik mengenai iman dan alam. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah memberikan pemahaman yang lebih luas tentang Ekologi Ekaristi, membangun kesadaran Ekologis yang kemudian berdampak terhadap pemeliharaan alam sekitar. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, Tanya jawab, evaluasi, pelatihan lagu-lagu liturgi bernuansa ekologi. Hasilnya, para siswa seminari Balide dan peserta yang hadir memahami dan merespon dengan baik tema yang diberikan, mereka sangat aktif dalam sesi Tanya jawab dan sangat berantusias dalam sesi evaluasi yang mana para siswa sendiri mulai memprogramkan kegiatan menyiram tanaman, penanaman pohon dan merawat tanaman. Adanya juga program pembersihan lingkungan bersama umat di luar kompleks seminari dan paroki, kegiatan yang dimaksud akan ditutup dengan perayaan Ekaristi di alam bebas.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the understanding of young Catholics about practical politics at Stasi Sta. Maria Goreti Aramengi, Hoelea Holy Cross Parish, Larantuka Diocese. The research method used is a qualitative method with a focus on content analysis to understand the complexity of the phenomenon being studied. The research results show that the majority of young Catholics in this station have a good understanding of practical politics. Supporting factors include Church social teaching, Catholic religious education, spiritual leadership and formation, collaborative discussions, opportunities for involvement, and spiritual formation. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include a lack of understanding of the Church's social teachings, the influence of secular culture, indifference to politics, lack of access to information and education, and the perception of politics as controversial. Efforts to increase practical political understanding include open discussion, education and spiritual formation.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the role of the Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit in overcoming the negative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on young people. AI, as a technological advancement, offers convenience in various aspects of life, but also has negative impacts such as decreased intellectual independence, individualism, and disruption of emotional and social well-being. The method used is qualitative research through literature analysis. The main source used is the Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit and additional sources are research journals and books related to this research. The research results show that Christus Vivit provides important direction for young people to develop intellectual and spiritual abilities independently, reduce dependence on AI, and improve social relations. The research also found that AI, if used wisely, can be an enabling tool that enriches the lives of young people. In conclusion, although AI is not a threat that must be rejected, its use requires a critical attitude and awareness so that young people continue to prioritize their God-given intellectual, emotional and spiritual abilities.

Abstract

Young Catholics (OMK) are the next generation of sources of the Catholic faith. One of them is the holy book. In the Naibonat quasi-parish, OMK is very active in church activities. However, in reality, there are still many OMK who do not have adequate knowledge and understanding of the holy books, both deuteurocanonical. So, when a new translation of the deuteurocanonical holy book was published, OMK became confused about which holy book to have. This research aims to determine the extent of understanding of OMK in Naibonat regarding the deuterocanonical holy book, efforts that need to be made to increase OMK's understanding so that harmony is maintained through the teachings of the deuterurocanonical holy book. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques are interviews, observation and documentation combined with literary studies. The data obtained was reduced and analyzed so that it answered the research objectives. As a result, OMK in Naibonat do not understand the differences between Catholic and Protestant holy books. However, OMK knows that the contents of the holy book teach about helping each other and loving each other. This is also what is taught in deuteurocanonical books, such as in the book of Tobit which contains life advice for his son Tobiah to continue doing good, abstain from sin, and continue to help others by giving alms. Advice for OMKs like this is what encourages the creation of a harmonious life where by helping and loving each other, differences and diversity will not become obstacles but become tools that maintain harmony in life for the common good. The results of this research will be a starting point for community service activities in the form of socializing the deuteurocanonical holy book for OMK in Naibonat in particular and in the Archdiocese of Kupang in general.

Abstract

Young Catholics are the next generation of sources of the Catholic faith. One of these is the holy book. The young Catholics of the island of Timor-NTT-Indonesia are very active in ecclesial activities. However, in reality, there are still many who do not have adequate knowledge and understanding of the Deuteurocanonical scriptures. This research aims to examine young Catholics' understanding and implementation of the Deuterocanonical Scriptures on the island of Timor-NTT and its impact on religious harmony. The method used is a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and observations. The data obtained were reduced and analyzed so that they met the objectives of the research. The research results obtained show that young people's understanding of the Holy Bible is still minimal, especially regarding the differences between Catholic and Protestant holy books. However, the awareness of the importance of reading and meditating on the Holy Bible as a guide to life is quite high. To increase religious harmony on this island, intense socialization regarding the values ​​of the Deuterocanonical Scriptures is necessary. In conclusion, the values ​​contained in the Deuterocanonical Scriptures have great potential to strengthen relations between religious communities if well understood and implemented.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of student concern for environmental cleanliness on the STIPAS campus of the Kupang Archdiocese, which was characterized by the large amount of rubbish scattered around such as leaves, plastic, tissue and paper in the campus area. In response, this research uses guidance from Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudato Si' which emphasizes the importance of protecting the earth as a common home from damage caused by irresponsible human actions. The research method used is a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and literature review. Research informants consisted of STIPAS lecturers, staff and students. This research aims to understand the level of student concern for environmental cleanliness, supporting and inhibiting factors, as well as efforts that can be made to increase this concern based on the principles of Laudato Si'. The research results showed that the informants' environmental awareness increased after studying the concepts in Laudato Si'. Concrete actions such as waste management, energy savings, and participation in environmental activities have been taken. Implementation of Laudato Si' values ​​on campus also results in policy and behavioral changes, such as reducing waste and actively involving students in maintaining a clean environment. The conclusion of this research emphasizes the importance of implementing Laudato Si' values ​​to increase students' environmental awareness, with support from campus policies and cooperation from all parties.

Abstract

Hauteas are branching wooden sticks that are considered sacred by the indigenous people of Timor. This tradition is still carried out by the Nopala tribe as part of traditional rituals that reflect happiness, enthusiasm and unity as brothers. This research was conducted to preserve cultural beliefs, deepen the Catholic faith, and strengthen feelings of brotherhood within the tribe, which has an impact on cultural respect between tribes. The method used is qualitative with a naturalistic descriptive approach. Data was collected through observation and in-depth interviews. The research results show that Hauteas functions as a symbolic language for the Nopala Tribe to express their faith in Allah (Uis Neno). Hauteas symbolizes holiness, divinity, and the existence of the Triune God. The process of planting Hauteas and the rituals surrounding it convey deep religious and social significance, strengthening the spiritual connection of the people with God and their ancestors. Hauteas' presence is also relevant to the development of the Catholic faith, because it is a bridge of understanding between ancestral traditions and Catholic teachings. This research concludes that Hauteas is a heritage of faith that is not only a religious symbol but also a means of deepening relationships between tribal members and increasing cross-cultural respect. Preserving these traditions is important to ensure that the spiritual and cultural meaning of Hauteas remains alive amidst changing times.

Abstract

Crimes committed by certain individuals, such as human trafficking, are a serious problem that needs to be addressed and continuously voiced and solutions sought, because these acts are sins that injure the human person himself and are also sins in front of them. human trafficking reduces the value and dignity of humans who are the face and likeness of God into goods that can be bought and sold. This action directly goes against God, who essentially loves humans and created humans equal to His own face and likeness. The aim of the research is for people to understand that this act of human trafficking already has the spirit of the Old and New Testaments. By understanding that humans are the image of God himself, solutions should be found to overcome the crime of human trafficking. This research uses a qualitative method by means of library research, namely investigating Bible stories, documents, theological books, articles, news related to the problem. The results of this research show that it is necessary to understand humans theologically in order to prevent and overcome cases of human trafficking in several ways, namely: humans as the image and likeness of God, humans were created as social creatures, humans were created not as goods but as individuals. As a follow-up, this research recommends that the government, church and society can make efforts to stop the practice of human trafficking which continues to grow.
