Abstract

The difference between a common translation and user interface localization for a technology product has raised big questions regarding the implementation of its translation strategy. This research attempts to answer this inquiry by analyzing the tendency of translation strategies used in the localization process for social media Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Youtube from English to Indonesian. The method used in this translation is qualitative descriptive, focusing on the text elements in the user interfaces from all three social media. The data were collected through a direct exploration of all three social media user interfaces in both English and Indonesian versions. The data from this research are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences presented in each user interface. From the data analysis, it is concluded that the most dominant translation procedure in the localization process of all three social media is naturalization. Meanwhile, the method and ideology applied are semantic translation and foreignization. This finding provides insight into the importance of translation strategies in localization for social media applications and how this process affects Indonesian users' experience. The results of this research also provide that every localization process does not have to be dominated by a domestic translation strategy as the name suggests. In fact, most technology product localization is translated with a foreignization approach to maintain consistency across platforms.

Abstract

This research seeks to investigate how well sixth graders at SD Negeri 064976 grasp the Past Tense as a component of their foundational English grammar skills. A group of 20 students took part in the lesson and completed a test aimed at evaluating their comprehension of verb alterations and their capacity to form sentences in the past tense. The results reveal significant differences in the students' grasp of the subject matter. Ten percent of the students scored in the high range, forty percent were in the medium range, and fifty percent were classified as low. Those in the high group typically displayed a solid understanding of verb form changes and could accurately create simple past tense sentences. Meanwhile, students in the medium range showed some understanding, but they were inconsistent, particularly with irregular verbs and overall sentence structure. The students classified as low encountered more basic difficulties, such as struggling to differentiate between present and past forms and having a limited vocabulary for building sentences. These findings highlight the necessity for a more organized approach to grammar practice, planned learning sessions, and teaching methods tailored to the diverse readiness levels of students, aimed at enhancing their overall grasp of the Past Tense.

Abstract

This study aims to see and understand the difficulties experienced by grade 3 students in learning English at UPT SD Negeri 060866. In the learning process, there are still many students who do not understand basic vocabulary, are confused about pronouncing words, and have difficulty following simple instructions in English. In addition, several factors such as lack of practice, shyness to speak, and lack of confidence are also major causes. This study uses a descriptive approach by observing learning activities in the classroom and conducting simple interviews with teachers. As a result, it was found that students need more interactive learning methods, the use of visual media, and repetitive exercises to make the material easier to understand. By understanding these difficulties, teachers can adjust learning strategies to better suit the needs of grade 3 students

Factors that support successful learning include material that is relevant to students' lives, the use of clear media, attention to differences in student abilities, and a positive and motivating classroom atmosphere. This study concludes that a combination of lectures, question and answer sessions, and interactive activities can improve students' understanding of English learning in elementary school.
