Abstract

Criticism of socio-political phenomena through the interpretation of the Qur'an as a medium to legitimise the claims of criticism expressed, is often used by mufassirs. As Buya Hamka did, he used his interpretation to criticise the Nasakom political ideology in the era of Guided Democracy under the leadership of Soekarno. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to find out how Buya Hamka criticised Nasakom in Al-Azhar. Using descriptive, historical and explanatory methods. The research findings are as follows. First, Buya Hamka was a cleric who was critical of the policies of the Guided Democracy regime. Especially if the policy was considered contrary to Islamic law, such as Nasakom syncretism. Although the regime was repressive, Buya Hamka remained steadfast in fighting for the interests of Islamic ideology. Secondly, Buya Hamka made Al-Azhar as a medium to respond and criticise the socio-political reality that developed at that time. Interestingly, the criticism expressed did not come out of the main meaning of the Qur'anic text. Third, Buya Hamka's criticisms were able to disrupt the political escalation of the government, at least giving vibrations to the body of power, even though the Soekarno regime tried to muffle but he was able to get out of the massive pressure. Starting from the banning of Panji Masyarakat magazine until the climax he was imprisoned.

Abstract

Worldly life refers to human activities that involve all material, social, emotional and spiritual aspects. Worldly life is often understood as a passage of time filled with challenges, opportunities, human relationships, achievements, and suffering. Therefore, this paper seeks to understand how the life of the world from the perspective of Islam through the tafsir approach. it aims to examine the life of the world from the perspective of Islam by utilizing the tafsir approach. In this case, tafsir serves as a tool to explore the meanings in the Qur'an that can provide a deeper understanding of how Muslims should live in the world. This paper is qualitative in nature by relying on written references both books, articles, and the web with regard to the theme of writing. This paper produces several points obtained from Al-Alusi's interpretation of life in the world, including advocating to do charity for the hereafter, zuhud in the world, not to be tempted by the jewelry of the world, and the world is used as a field for the hereafter. Therefore, this paper concludes that Al-Alusi's view of life in the world is that it must be tawazun (balanced) between the world and the hereafter. Life in the world is a provision for life in the hereafter. The world is double-edged, if it is used to seek the satisfaction of lust and lust, then the world has deceived humans. So that keiak will get punishment from Allah. However, if the life of the world is intended for the life of the hereafter and he does not take pleasure in the world. Then such a worldly life is the best of favors and the best of deeds for the hereafter. Thus, the zuhud life of a Sufi is not abandoning the world, but using the world for the life of the hereafter, and he can keep his mind on the divine path.

Abstract

One of the challenges faced by contemporary Muslims is the relevance of classical Qur'anic interpretation in addressing modern issues. This study examines Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy's interpretation of QS. Luqman (31):6 through the lens of Gadamerian hermeneutics, particularly in the context of contemporary entertainment discourse. The verse, often associated with prohibitions on futile speech and entertainment, has been widely debated in Islamic scholarship. This research employs a text-based qualitative method, utilizing Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics-especially the concepts of the "fusion of horizons" and historical consciousness-for an in-depth analysis. The findings reveal that Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy's interpretation is influenced by his historical background, including his academic training and the impact of Tafsir al-Maraghi, which shaped his pre-understanding (Vorverständnis). However, in his interpretive process, Hasbi remains committed to the primary meaning of the text, defining lahw al-hadith as anything that distracts from virtue. In contemporary contexts, this concept can extend to modern entertainment, including social media, when it leads individuals away from religious and moral values. Hasbi's approach demonstrates an effort to balance textual fidelity with contextual adaptation, offering insights into how classical interpretations can remain relevant in contemporary ethical and cultural debates. Contribution: This study contributes to the discourse on Qur'anic hermeneutics by illustrating how Gadamerian principles can help reinterpret classical exegesis to address evolving societal challenges.
