Abstract

Dermatoporosis is a chronic skin fragility syndrome common in the elderly, characterized by thinning of the skin that increases the risk of injury, bruising, and delayed wound healing. Chronic hyperglycemia and poor glycemic control have been reported to be associated with an increased risk of dermatoporosis. This community service activity aims to screen blood sugar levels, HbA1c, and dermatoporosis and educate the elderly using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) method at Panti Bina Bhakti, South Tangerang. This activity involved 93 elderly participants aged >65 years. Meanwhile, based on the results of the HbA1C examination, 52 people had moderate glycemic control and 24 people had poor glycemic control. The results of the dermatoporosis examination have not been included. Early intervention through education and monitoring of blood sugar levels can reduce the risk of dermatoporosis, improve the health of the elderly's skin, and reduce the burden of health care.

Abstract

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a medical condition characterized by an increase in uric acid levels in the blood above normal limits, which is more than 7 mg/dL in men and more than 6 mg/dL in women. This condition is often found in the elderly due to decreased kidney function that occurs with the aging process. Hyperuricemia can increase the risk of gouty arthritis, kidney disorders, and cardiometabolic diseases such as hypertension and dyslipidemia. Community Service Activities (PKM) at Panti Werdha Hana aim to increase awareness among the elderly about the importance of early detection of uric acid levels and education on their prevention and management. This activity utilizies the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) method, where uric acid levels are measured, and educational materials are provided on uric acid and its associated risk factors. Participants with have uric acid levels above the normal threshold are provided with additional education and recommendations for medical follow-up. The results showed that of the 76 elderly who participated in the activity, 12 people (15.79%) experienced hyperuricemia, while 64 people (84.21%) had uric acid levels within the normal range. Early detection of uric acid levels is a crucial step in preventive efforts against more serious complications, as well as a key basis for planning sustainable health interventions to enhance the quality of life for the elderly.

Abstract

Sarcopenia is a geriatric syndrome characterized by progressive loss of muscle mass and strength, which has a significant impact on the elderly and increases the risk of disability, decreased quality of life, and even death. The main risk factors for Sarcopenia include lack of physical activity, malnutrition, chronic disease, and aging. The purpose of this activity is to detect sarcopenia early through handgrip strength and anthropometry examinations. This activity was attended by 69 teachers and employees of Santo Yoseph High School, Cakung, East Jakarta. This activity was designed based on the PDCA method, which is a method consisting of planning, implementing, evaluating and continuously improving a process or activity. Based on the results of the calf circumference and handgrip strength examinations, 15 participants (21.74%) and 12 participants (17.39%) obtained results below normal. In addition, based on the results of the body mass index examination, 35 participants (50.72%) were obese, 17 participants (24.64%) were at risk of obesity, and 4 participants (5.8%) were underweight. Early detection of sarcopenia is essential to reduce its negative impact on health and reduce the burden on individuals and the health system. By holding this community service activity, it is hoped that there will be an increase in public awareness of the importance of preventing sarcopenia in order to prevent worsening of the condition and improve the quality of life of individuals.

Abstract

Currently, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are of particular concern to the government, because they are the highest cause of death throughout the world in general, in Indonesia in particular. Cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and Cerebrovascular disease are the highest cases among other NCDs. Hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hyperuricemia are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Life style like lack of activity, high fat, calorie and tasty foods consumption are factors that increase the occurrence of NCDs. Bogor, with around 123 million population, in 2020 found of 53,635 cases of hypertension and 19,694 diabetes mellitus. This incidens is higher compared to 2019 data and will increase every year. HKBP Church, Villa Duta, Bogor City, with a congregation of 154 families, is also who are at risk of experiencing cardiovascular disease. Church leaders want to help the government in reducing the incidence of NCDs with starting by holding free examinations for congregants and local residents. The aim of this activity is to obtain an overview of the risk factors in church congregations and local residents so that education can then be provided according to the results of the examination. The method of PKM activities is to carry out blood pressure checks, capillary blood tests in blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid level. Results: There were 70 participants who underwent the examination, 71.4% were female, 57.1% blood pressure examination were high, 44.9% blood sugar level are high and 62.9% uric acid level within normal limits. Conclusion The HKBP church congregation and surrounding residents are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease, especially if they do not change their lifestyle.
