Abstract

The issue of waste, especially plastic waste, has become a crucial problem in Indonesia, leading to ecosystem damage and environmental pollution. SDN 2 Cikalang, located in Tasikmalaya City, is one of the schools that has not yet implemented optimal plastic waste management. An Ecobrick outreach program was conducted to enhance the knowledge of fifth-grade students about plastic waste management through Ecobrick innovation. An Ecobrick is a plastic bottle filled tightly with plastic waste, which can be used as a construction material to replace bricks. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Ecobrick outreach program in increasing students' knowledge of plastic waste management. The research methods included pre-test, material delivery, hands-on practice, and post-test. The evaluation results showed a 45% increase in students' knowledge, with a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p value = 0.000). This indicates that a hands-on education approach is effective in improving students' understanding of plastic waste management through Ecobrick.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the leading non-communicable diseases causing global mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The elderly, as a group vulnerable to hypertension, often lack access to education and motivation to engage in physical activities. This study aims to raise awareness among the elderly about hypertension prevention through physical activity in the form of hypertension exercises and education on the benefits of tomato juice. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method conducted in Perumahan Batara RW 13, Tasikmalaya City, targeting elderly individuals at risk of hypertension.Data were collected through participatory observation and informal interviews, then analyzed based on success indicators. The findings show that this program successfully enhanced community knowledge about hypertension, encouraged active participation in physical activities, and motivated participants to utilize tomato juice as a preventive measure against hypertension. The high enthusiasm of participants during discussions and their willingness to adopt healthy lifestyles indicated the program's success. With improvements in implementation aspects, this program has the potential to be adopted in other regions as a community empowerment strategy to enhance elderly health.

Abstract

DHF (Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever) is a disease caused by the aedes virus. WHO states that 4,000 people worldwide have died from DHF, Banjar City in 2024 had 387 cases of DHF. Based on the results of community diagnosis using the ultrasound method, it has been determined that the priority health problem is DHF (Dengue Fever). Based on the results of the SWOT analysis, it was found that the determinant factor of the health problem is non-compliance with the 3M Plus PSN which includes: empty houses are not maintained with damp and dark conditions, the community does not understand and has not implemented the 3M Plus PSN at home, and the community only recognizes DHF prevention efforts limited to fogging. Therefore, we designed innovations through the LASKAR DBD program (Collaborative Strategic Steps for Dengue Fever) with the implementation of activities in the form of revitalizing the DBD center building as a place for socialization and counseling about dengue, fishization by giving guppy fish as larvae-eating fish, held a SAMBEL (Equal Learning) program, namely the installation of 3M Plus PSN stickers in each house as educational material as well as counseling activities for cadres and school children related to DHF, then held a BALADO program (Together Fighting Dengue with ovitrap) which is a modified SAMT ovitrap demonstration activity.
