Abstract

The declining interest of the younger generation, particularly Generation Z, in pursuing careers in the agricultural sector has emerged as a critical concern requiring comprehensive analysis. This study investigates the career interests of agricultural students through the lens of the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), which highlights the influence of self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and personal career goals in shaping career aspirations. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected from 338 students enrolled at Jenderal Soedirman University (UNSOED), Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto (UMP), and Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) Purwokerto using a quota sampling method. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The findings reveal that students’ interest in agricultural careers is at a moderate level. Outcome expectations significantly and positively influence both career interest and goals. Although self-efficacy does not directly affect career interest, it exerts an indirect influence through its impact on career goals. These results underscore the importance of enhancing students’ career goals and positive expectations to foster greater interest in agricultural careers.

Abstract

Chili is one of the food commodities that has a fluctuating price. The instability of this price movement makes red chili a cause of price inflation in Banyumas Regency. This study aims to find out the marketing channels, price behavior, and market integration of red chili commodities in Banyumas Regency. The types and sources of data in this study are primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained based on interviews with traders. Secondary data in the form of red chili prices that apply at the farmer and consumer levels in Banyumas Regency in the period 2019 to 2023. Red chili price data at the farmer level comes from the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Banyumas Regency. Red chili price data at the consumer level comes from the Department of Industry and Trade of Banyumas Regency. The analysis method in this study is a descriptive quantitative method. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis, coefficient of variation, and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results of the study indicate that the behavior of red chili prices based on the KV values obtained indicates highly fluctuating and unstable behavior. The average KV value at the farmer level, which is 43%, tends to be greater than the consumer level, which is 41%. This shows that the price of red chili at the farmer level is more fluctuating than at the consumer level. The red chili market at the farmer and consumer levels in Banyumas Regency is integrated both in the long term and the short term. There is no causal relationship between the producer and consumer markets in the marketing of red chili in Banyumas Regency.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop forecasting models for both the production and producer prices of cassava in Central Java using the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) method, recognizing the significant role of this commodity in the regional economy. Through time series analysis stages using 1993 until 2022 data years encompassing stationarity testing (ADF), model identification based on Autocorrelation Function (ACF) and Partial (Autocorrelation Function) PACF, parameter estimation using Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) atau Schwarz Bayesian Criterion (SBC), standard error with Stata 17, and residual diagnostic testing (white noise), the study identified ARIMA (2,1,1) as the optimal model for production forecasting and ARIMA (1,1,1) for producer price forecasting. The forecasting results indicate a declining trend in cassava production in Central Java from 1993 to 2029, contrasting with an increasing trend in producer prices. Supply elasticity analysis using the forecasted production and price data yielded a value of -0.76, indicating that the supply of cassava in Central Java is inelastic, where price changes do not elicit a proportional supply response from farmers. Although cassava is an inelastic and inferior commodity, the government still needs to play an active role in improving farmers' knowledge of technology and encouraging processing research to increase its added value and supply chain effectiveness.

Abstract

In the 1990s, potato yield in the Andisols of Dieng, Central Java, Indonesia, was approximately 30 t ha–1, but this value decreased rapidly to 12–15 t ha–1 in recent years. This rapid decline could be attributed to the use of unbalanced organic and chemical fertilizers, without the application of conservation techniques. Therefore, this study aimed to sustainably improve the local potato cultivation pattern of farmers on Andisols using biological organic fertilizers and pesticides (BOFP). A randomized block design was used with two factors, namely: 1) 20 t BOFP, 300 kg Urea, 500 kg SP 36, 300 kg KCl, and 200 kg lime ha–1, and 2) comparison with the pattern of farmers, consisting of 20 t of chicken manure, 1–t NPK, and 250 kg ZA ha–1. The potato plant mounds were tilted 10% to the contour direction, and each treatment was carried out with 16 replications. Granola seeds were used to plant potato during the rainy season from March-June 2022. The results showed that the plants cultivated using the local pattern of farmers were affected by wilt from Fusarium spp, while the use of BOFP decreased the incidence of the disease by 80%. Furthermore, the BOFP pattern significantly increased Andisols organic-C from 1.78% to 3.83% and total soil P from 5.20% to 11.34%, compared to the pattern of farmers. It also increased potato yields from 12.31 t ha–1 to 22.93 t ha–1 and the R/C from 0.85 to 1.23, compared to the pattern of farmers. Based on the results, the use of BOFP pattern decreased wilt attacks by Fusarium spp, improved the productivity of Andisols, as well as increased potato production and profits of farmers.

Abstract

Banyumas Regency is the largest producer of cardamom in Central Java. One of the production centres is in Cilongok District, but in 2024 there was a decline due to drought and low selling prices, which reduced farmers' motivation to cultivate cardamom. This condition necessitates the adaptation of agricultural practices to manage the risks arising from climate change and other challenges, ensuring the sustainability of farming activities amid environmental and economic pressures. This study aimed to analyze the resilience level of cardamom farmers in response to climate change and declining market prices. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, and the sampling technique used was cluster sampling, involving 50 cardamom farmers in Cilongok District. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) approach. Based on the analysis, the LVI score was (0.55), which indicates a moderate to high level of vulnerability. The exposure index was (0.51), reflecting considerable exposure to climatic variability. The sensitivity index was (0.44), indicating moderate impacts on health, food security, and water availability, with fluctuating cardamom prices worsening the condition. The adaptive capacity index scored the highest at (0.68), suggesting a low adaptive capacity among farmers, mainly due to advanced age, low education levels, and limited institutional support. These findings underscore the urgency of implementing adaptation strategies such as technical training, strengthening of farmer organizations, expanding market access, and policy interventions to reduce vulnerability and enhance the resilience of cardamom farmers to climate variability and price instability.

Abstract

Determinant Factors of Harvest Labor Productivity in Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) Plantation at PT Danar Rimba Raya. Oil palm plantations play a strategic role in Indonesia’s economy by contributing significantly to export earnings and rural employment. However, productivity challenges in labor-intensive harvesting activities remain a critical issue affecting production efficiency and sustainability. This study aims to analyze the productivity of harvest workers and identify the factors influencing it at PT Danar Rimba Raya Pelantaran Estate, Kotawaringin Timur Regency, Central Kalimantan. In 2024, the company’s production realization reached only 80% of the target, with a worker attendance rate of 90%. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using a census method involving 24 harvest workers. Data were collected through questionnaires, field observations, and interviews, and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results show an adjusted R² value of 0.958, indicating that 95.8% of productivity variation was explained by the model. Partial test results revealed that work experience had a significant negative effect (β = –0.217; p < 0.05), while incentives had the strongest positive influence on productivity (β = 0.632; p < 0.01). Other variables, including age, motivation, tool availability, and work environment, were not statistically significant. These findings emphasize the importance of performance-based incentive systems and adaptive labor management strategies to enhance productivity in the oil palm plantation sector.
