Abstract

Oral and dental health is an essential aspect of general health that must be maintained from an early age. This study aims to evaluate the impact of the Training of Trainer (ToT) program on dental and oral health for teachers and parents on changing tooth brushing behavior among students at SDIT Al-Uswah Surabaya. The methods used include surveys, training, evaluations, and observations of a tooth-brushing calendar filled out over 21 days. The results showed an increase in knowledge among teachers and parents, as well as positive changes in students' habits of brushing their teeth twice daily. These results highlight the importance of the role of teachers and parents in supporting dental and oral health promotion for children, which is expected to reduce the risk of dental caries in the future.

Abstract

Karawitan is a traditional Javanese art that holds great importance in cultural preservation. However, at SDN Sahang Ngebel Ponorogo, student interest in joining karawitan extracurricular activities remains low, as many prefer other activities they find more appealing. The current teaching methods are also considered monotonous, leading to boredom and a lack of enthusiasm. In fact, karawitan is not only a musical art form but also a medium to instill cultural values, discipline, and togetherness. Through community service activities, student mentoring was carried out with two main roles: motivator and creative facilitator. As a motivator, the program aimed to boost students’ enthusiasm by providing encouragement, guidance, and appreciation so they could feel more confident and proud to take part in karawitan. Students were also made aware that karawitan is not just an extracurricular activity, but also an effort to preserve regional cultural heritage. As a creative facilitator, learning was designed to be more enjoyable using a play-based approach, such as guessing instrument sounds, rhythm relays, and introducing traditional songs accompanied by gamelan music. This approach made students feel happier, more engaged, and less bored during practice. As a result, their enthusiasm and participation increased significantly. Students who were previously uninterested became more active, gained confidence in playing instruments, and felt proud to contribute to preserving gamelan music. This program successfully fostered students’ appreciation of traditional arts while supporting cultural preservation at school.

Abstract

Innovation in the use of local food ingredients is a strategic effort to support food independence while increasing the economic competitiveness of rural communities. This research developed a new product in the form of jackfruit cake as an alternative processed food with higher economic value, longer shelf life, and the potential to become a typical souvenir of Ngrogung Village, Ngebel District, Ponorogo Regency. This community service program uses the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) method introduced by John McKnight and Jody Kretzmann. This asset-based approach encourages the community to explore internal potential and directs changes in accordance with the community's vision. The activity was carried out through a collaboration between the Community Service Lecture (KPM) group and the UPT BLK Karanglo Lor Ponorogo. The training results showed an increase in knowledge, skills, and socio-economic impacts on the community, especially in processing local food into value-added products. Thus, the jackfruit cake innovation can be a model for sustainable community empowerment based on local potential.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how to empower youth by implementing Karang Taruna organizational management. Organizational management consists of various activities in the form of planning and managing organizational resources to achieve the expected goals. The type of research used in this study is ABCD, namely Asset Based Communities Development (ABCD) is a model approach in community development. This approach emphasizes the inventory of assets in the community that are considered to support community empowerment activities. The results of the study revealed that youth empowerment by implementing Karang Taruna organizational management is running quite well but cannot be said to be running optimally, this is because there are still several things that still need to be fixed and enhanced. This can be seen from various aspects (1) Strategy when planning activities in organizational management and coordination with the plan. (2) Organization, especially negotiations with Karang Taruna activity organizers according to the division of tasks and youth systems, requires careful planning so that activities can be carried out effectively. (3) This is done through efficient organization and maintaining communication. Performance in an organization cannot be separated from the contribution of all team members involved. (4) Monitor the areas of responsibility and achievements of youth groups who hold community representative positions, especially youth who are always responsible for carrying out useful activities.

Abstract

Inorganic waste is a serious problem in rural areas as it takes hundreds to thousands of years to decompose. The lack of public awareness regarding the long-term impacts of plastic, glass, cans, and styrofoam waste worsens environmental conditions, especially with limited information and waste management facilities in villages. This study is a community service activity based on environmental education aimed at raising the awareness of Wagir Lor Village residents, Ngebel Sub-district, about the dangers of inorganic waste through a visual medium in the form of educational signboards. The program was carried out from July to August 2025, involving village officials, youth groups, and local residents. The method included observation, signboard design, socialization, production and installation of the boards, and evaluation of community responses. The boards provided information about the decomposition period of inorganic waste, such as plastic (50–100 years), cans (80–200 years), glass (up to thousands of years), and styrofoam (more than 500 years). The results indicated that most residents still disposed of waste carelessly, but the presence of educational boards attracted considerable attention. Observations showed that around 70% of the residents read and paid attention to the information, indicating an increased curiosity and awareness of the long-term effects of waste. Community participation was also evident through the involvement of village officials, youth organizations, and schoolchildren in the installation process. The implication of this activity was an improvement in environmental awareness, marked by the early practice of waste separation and the emergence of collective concern for a cleaner village. Thus, educational signboards proved to be an effective, simple, and sustainable medium for fostering environmental awareness at the village level. Further programs such as waste banks and recycling training are recommended to strengthen the long-term impact of this initiative.
