Abstract

Reading comprehension is a critical component of the learning process, particularly for students, as it is considered a fundamental skill that must be acquired. The current study utilizes the first movement of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" as an experimental condition, given its slow-tempo properties. The primary aim of the study is to investigate the impact of slow-tempo classical music on the reading comprehension abilities of university students. A between-subject, randomized two-group design, post-test only research approach was utilized, with a total of 30 students participating in the study. The measurement of reading comprehension was conducted using the UTBK 2021 TPS test, with the experimental group taking the test while listening to Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," while the control group took the test without music. The study employs a two-tailed hypothesis and indicates that the Ha hypothesis is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that listening to classical music, specifically the "Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement" by Beethoven, does not have a significant effect on the reading comprehension abilities of students. However, it is recommended that students explore studying with and without music to determine their preferred method.

Abstract

The intensity of TikTok social media use is the frequency or amount of time spent using TikTok social media. Academic procrastination is the deliberate delay in completing tasks related to academic activities. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the intensity of TikTok social media usage and academic procrastination among university students. This research employs a descriptive quantitative method. A total of 382 active university students in Indonesia participated in the study. Data were collected through an online survey using Google Forms, measuring the relationship between the intensity of TikTok social media usage and academic procrastination, and were then analyzed using assumption tests, linear tests, and hypothesis testing. The results indicate a significant relationship with academic procrastination among students (r = 0.744, p < 0.05), meaning that the higher the intensity of TikTok social media usage, the higher the level of academic procrastination among students. Although this study was conducted successfully, there are several limitations, such as the need for respondents with more diverse backgrounds and consideration of other influencing factors.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between academic stress and mental health in university students. Academic stress is often a factor that affects mental health, especially in students who face pressure in academic achievement. This study used descriptive and inferential quantitative approaches with a simple correlation method. A total of 100 active students are currently studying at universities in Indonesia. Data were collected through an online survey google form that measures the level of academic stress and mental health, and distributed through social media and then analyzed using the classical assumption test, Pearson correlation test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that there is a significant negative relationship between academic stress and students' mental health (r = -0.440, p < 0.01), which means that the higher the academic stress, the worse the mental health condition of students. To meet statistical assumptions, the data underwent linear transformation, which clarified the relationship between the two variables. Although this study went well, there were some limitations, such as the unbalanced number of subjects between genders. Therefore, it is recommended that future studies consider sample balance as well as using longitudinal methods to strengthen the findings. This study makes an important contribution to efforts to improve students' mental health through better academic stress management.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether there is an influence of self-disclosure in the media on students' feelings of insecurity. Self-disclosure on social media, such as providing personal information, achievements, or feelings, makes students more vulnerable to social comparisons, criticism, and negative comments. This research uses a descriptive and inferential quantitative approach with a simple regression analysis method. The subjects of this research were 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta University students who actively use social media with a sample of 96 people. Data was collected through an online survey via Google Forms which measured self-disclosure on social media and feelings of insecurity and distributed via social media. Data were analyzed using classic assumption tests and hypothesis testing in the form of simple regression analysis. The research results show that there is a very significant influence between self-disclosure on social media on insecurity in students. This is shown by the regression coefficient value of 3751.630, which indicates that the higher the self-disclosure on social media, the greater the possibility of students feeling insecure or lacking self-confidence. This research still has shortcomings, such as subjects that are not balanced between genders, does not focus on one social media, and research subjects are still limited, therefore it is hoped that future research can improve the findings.

Abstract

Individuals who have low life satisfaction tend to change their current situation, so they have a greater orientation to make changes to their lives, which triggers an individual to do conformity, which conformity itself is interpreted as the tendency tochange individual beliefs or behaviors to match the behavior of others. This study aims to find out whether there is a relationship between conformity and life satisfaction in students who use Instagram social media in Yogyakarta. The data collection method in this study uses two likert scales, namely: the life satisfaction scale and the conformity scale. The subject of this study is students who use Instagram social media in Yogyakarta with a vulnerable age of 17-24 years, the sample used a purposive sampling technique totaling 100 respondents. Based on the results of the study conducted with the Pearson product moment correlation technique, the significance figure p = 0.000 (p< 0.05) this shows a significant relationship between the variable of life satisfaction and conformity in students who use Instagram social media in Yogyakarta.

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of finding out the relationship between self-control and celebrity worship in early adult women who are K-Pop fans. Korean popular music culture, or better known as 'K-pop' has become a phenomenon that is able to attract many fans or what is also commonly called 'fans' or fans from all over the world, including Indonesia. Contrary to the perception that develops in society, the behavior of K-Pop fans in expressing love for idols is often considered excessive and considered too extreme, so that K-Pop fans are often considered obsessive, possessive, and even delusional. The higher the level of addiction to a person to a celebrity, the higher the level of a person's worship and the higher the level of involvement with the idol. The absence of self-control will cause individual difficulties in thinking about the impact of all behaviors that have been done. This study uses a quantitative approach and the determination of the sample of this study uses a purposive sampling technique. The sample used in this study was 200 people taken from the female population aged 20-30 years and K-Pop fans in Yoyakarta with the number of samples considered to be representative of the existing population. The population in this study is women aged 20-30 years and K-Pop fans in Yoyakarta. Based on the analysis of the hypothesis test carried out, it was shown that the significant value of P = 0.029 > 0.05, the result was obtained that there was no negative relationship between self-control and celebrity worship behavior and it is known that the R Square value is 0.003 or equal to 3% so that it can be interpreted that the independent variable, namely celebrity worship, affects the bound variable, namely self-control with the possibility that it occurs only 3% because it is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana pengalaman patah hati berhubungan dengan tingkat depresi di kalangan Generasi Z yang tinggal di Kota Magelang. Generasi Z cenderung rentan terhadap depresi akibat tekanan emosional dari hubungan sosial yang kompleks. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan korelasional. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 100 orang partisipan Generasi Z yang telah mengalami patah hati, yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) untuk mengukur tingkat depresi dan Skala Perasaan Putus Cinta yang berdasarkan teori Lavie (2004). Proses analisis data dilakukan melalui uji korelasi Pearson Product Moment dengan bantuan SPSS versi 16. Hasil uji reliabilitas menunjukkan nilai Cronbach’s Alpha sebesar 0,893, yang menunjukkan bahwa konsistensi internalnya sangat tinggi. Distribusi data adalah normal (Asymp. Sig = 0,669 > 0,05) dan hubungan antara variabel adalah linear (Sig. Deviation from Linearity = 0,150 > 0,05). Analisis menunjukkan nilai korelasi (R) sebesar 0,674 dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05, menandakan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara pengalaman patah hati dan depresi. Nilai determinasi (R²) sebesar 0,454 menunjukkan bahwa 45,4% variasi dalam tingkat depresi dipengaruhi oleh pengalaman putus cinta. Temuan ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya dukungan sosial dan intervensi psikologis bagi mereka yang mengalami patah hati.

Abstract

Individu dengan kondisi fatherless beresiko mengalami berbagai dampak psikologis terutama dalam pembentukan self-esteem. Meski demikian, dampak fatherles dapat diminimalisir dengan dukungan sosial dari lingkungan sekitar. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengidentifikiasi hubungan antara dukungan sosial terhadap self-esteem pada remaja akhir yang mengalami fatherless. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan korelasional. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan menggunakan metode accidental sampling di sosial media yang melibatkan 140 remaja akhir fatherless berusia 18-22 tahun berdomisili di Yogyakarta. Alat ukur yang digunakan berupa kuisioner dengan dua skala likert yaitu skala self-esteem dan skala dukungan sosial. Skala self-esteem disusun oleh peneliti mengacu pada aspek-apsek menurut Coopersmith (1967), sedangkan skala dukungan sosial juga dibuat oleh peneliti mengacu pada aspek-aspek yang diungkapkan oleh Sarafino (2011). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan teknik pearson product-moment menggunakan SPSS. Hasil analisis korelasi menggunakan pearson product moment antara dukungan sosial dengan self-esteem menunjukkan skor koefisien korelasi (r) 0,669 dengan nilai Sig. (p) 0,000 (p < 0,05). Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa terdapat korelasi positif yang sangat kuat dan signifikan antara dukungan sosial dengan self-esteem pada remaja akhir fatherless. Dengan demikian hipoteseis penelitian diterima, yaitu semakin tinggi dukungan sosial yang diterima maka semakin tinggi pula self-esteem yang dimilikinya.
