Abstract

Multinational capital budgeting is a long-term investment decision-making process undertaken by multinational corporations, considering various cross-border factors. Unlike domestic capital budgeting, multinational capital budgeting faces additional complexities such as currency exchange rate fluctuations, differences in tax systems, political risk, global economic risk, and regulatory differences in host countries. This study aims to analyze the concept and practice of multinational capital budgeting and examine the risks and managerial implications that arise in its implementation. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review of national and international journals, international finance textbooks, and the company's financial reports and official publications. A case study of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk is used to provide an empirical overview of the challenges of multinational capital budgeting, particularly those related to international funding and exchange rate risk. The study results indicate that cross-border investment decisions that are not balanced with adequate risk analysis can create significant financial pressures and threaten the company's sustainability. Therefore, multinational capital budgeting needs to be conducted comprehensively, considering aspects of profitability, risk, and long-term financial resilience.

Abstract

Exchange rates react to changes in inflation and interest rates. There are at least three theories explaining the relationship between inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates: purchasing power parity, interest rate parity, and the international Fisher effect. This study aims to examine the influence of purchasing power parity, interest rate parity, and the international Fisher effect on the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. The study population includes time series data on inflation, nominal interest rates, real interest rates, and the rupiah exchange rate. Secondary data used are quarterly reports on inflation, nominal interest rates, real interest rates, and the rupiah exchange rate. The independent variables used are purchasing power parity, interest rate parity, and the international Fisher effect. Meanwhile, the dependent variable used is the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. The results of this study indicate that purchasing power parity and interest rate parity simultaneously have a significant influence on the rupiah/US dollar exchange rate.

Abstract

The importance of short-term and long-term financing in international financial management as part of a business strategy to address global economic changes. Short-term financing is typically used to meet liquidity and working capital needs, particularly for cross-border activities such as exports and imports, using instruments such as trade credit, international trade paper, Euro-denominated loans, and internal financing. Meanwhile, long-term financing facilitates major investments, business expansion, and strengthens a company's capital structure, with bonds being the primary instrument. This article also discusses various strategic considerations taken into account when selecting international financing sources, such as the cost of funds, exchange rate fluctuations, interest rate parity, and global financial risks, including exchange rate, interest rate, liquidity, and political risks. Case studies of short-term and long-term financing demonstrate that effective risk management, such as hedging strategies, and thorough analysis are necessary for making informed international financing decisions. Therefore, effective international financing management can help maintain financial stability, improve efficiency, and enhance business competitiveness in the global market.
