Abstract

This study analyzes the distribution of the magnetic field outside a solenoid using an experimental and theoretical approach with the Hall effect sensor SS49E, amplified by the IC LM358. Measurements were conducted in three dimensions to characterize the magnetic field along the solenoid. The experimental results indicate that the magnetic field distribution is non-uniform, with the highest intensity near the solenoid's ends and a minimum value at its center. Empirical data were compared with a theoretical model based on Biot-Savart’s law, showing a 98% correlation, which indicates the accuracy of the measurement method used. This research provides additional insights into the magnetic field outside solenoids and it can be an excellent school project for undergraduate students.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of activated charcoal produced from coconut shells in reducing ammonia (NH3) levels in domestic wastewater. Liquid waste containing ammonia can cause environmental pollution and negatively impact ecosystems. Therefore, an efficient method is needed to reduce ammonia levels. In this study, activated charcoal was made through the carbonization process of coconut shells and tested for its ability as an adsorbent. The research was conducted experimentally with variations in the mass of activated charcoal of 600 mg, 800 mg, and 1 g. The research results show that coconut shell activated charcoal meets the specifications of Indonesian Industrial Standard (SNI No. 06-3730-1995) with a moisture content of 3%, ash content of 6%, volatile matter content of 14%, and pure activated carbon content of 77%. The reduction in ammonia content obtained was 59.76% for a mass of 600 mg, 61.1% for a mass of 800 mg, and 67.59% for a mass of 1 g. These results indicate that activated coconut shell charcoal has good potential as an adsorbent for the treatment of liquid waste containing ammonia. This research is expected to contribute to the development of more environmentally friendly waste treatment technologies and the sustainable use of local resources.

Abstract

Abstract

Making liquid organic fertilizer, especially from cocoa shells with the addition of bio activator EM4 (Effective Microorganisms) aims to determine the effect of fermentation time on the content of Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P) in liquid organic fertilizer, as well as determining the effect of bio activator EM4 content on N and P The method for making this liquid organic fertilizer is that cocoa shell waste is crushed before fermentation. Then the bio activator EM4 is prepared for addition to cocoa shell waste which has been reduced in size. Cocoa waste is put into a 500 ml beaker, the EM4 bio activator solution is then evenly put into the beaker. Sampling was carried out based on variations in fermentation time (6 days, 12 days, 18 days and 24 days) as well as variations in the addition of 5 ml and 10 ml of EM4 bio activator. The research results showed that the best N and P levels were obtained on the 18th day of fermentation with a volume of 10 ml of EM4 bioactivator, for a nitrogen content of 1.4% and a phosphorus content of 0.35%. The volume of EM4 bio activator greatly influences the N and P content, because the greater the volume of EM4 bio activator, the higher the N and P levels.ABSTRACT Making liquid organic fertilizer, especially from cocoa shells with the addition of bio activator EM4 (Effective Microorganisms) aims to determine the effect of fermentation time on the content of Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P) in liquid organic fertilizer, as well as determining the effect of bio activator EM4 content on N and P The method for making this liquid organic fertilizer is that cocoa shell waste is crushed before fermentation.
