Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of activated charcoal produced from coconut shells in reducing ammonia (NH3) levels in domestic wastewater. Liquid waste containing ammonia can cause environmental pollution and negatively impact ecosystems. Therefore, an efficient method is needed to reduce ammonia levels. In this study, activated charcoal was made through the carbonization process of coconut shells and tested for its ability as an adsorbent. The research was conducted experimentally with variations in the mass of activated charcoal of 600 mg, 800 mg, and 1 g. The research results show that coconut shell activated charcoal meets the specifications of Indonesian Industrial Standard (SNI No. 06-3730-1995) with a moisture content of 3%, ash content of 6%, volatile matter content of 14%, and pure activated carbon content of 77%. The reduction in ammonia content obtained was 59.76% for a mass of 600 mg, 61.1% for a mass of 800 mg, and 67.59% for a mass of 1 g. These results indicate that activated coconut shell charcoal has good potential as an adsorbent for the treatment of liquid waste containing ammonia. This research is expected to contribute to the development of more environmentally friendly waste treatment technologies and the sustainable use of local resources.

Abstract

UMKM Rezki Onto di Kabupaten Bantaeng menghadapi kendala dalam meningkatkan nilai ekonomi produk poteng akibat keterbatasan variasi produk, penggunaan kemasan yang kurang menarik, serta strategi pemasaran yang terbatas. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilaksanakan melalui tiga tahap utama, yaitu pelatihan diversifikasi produk, pengadaan alat pres dan cool box, serta pendampingan branding. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 10 pelaku UMKM dengan metode evaluasi menggunakan angket skala Likert 1–5 untuk menilai pemahaman, keterampilan, dan kepuasan peserta. Hasil pelaksanaan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta sebesar 80% dengan mayoritas berada pada kategori baik, peningkatan produksi dari 50 bungkus menjadi 90 bungkus per minggu, kenaikan omset bulanan dari Rp2.000.000 menjadi Rp3.600.000, serta lahirnya dua varian produk baru yang lebih kompetitif. Dengan capaian tersebut, kegiatan ini terbukti mampu meningkatkan produktivitas, kualitas, dan daya saing UMKM Rezki Onto.

Abstract

Program Pemberdayaan Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan nilai tambah buah lontar (Borassus flabellifer L) melalui diversifikasi produk bernilai jual tinggi, serta mendorong perbaikan gizi dan peningkatan ekonomi masyarakat Desa Bulo-Bulo, Kecamatan Arungkeke, Kabupaten Jeneponto. Kelompok PKK sebagai mitra utama dilibatkan secara aktif dalam pelatihan pembuatan nata de lontar, energy bar lontar, dan selai lontar. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi sosialisasi potensi buah lontar, pelatihan teknik pengolahan modern, pendampingan pengemasan berbasis food grade, serta pemasaran digital melalui platform e-commerce dan media sosial. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test pengetahuan, observasi keterampilan, serta wawancara. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata pengetahuan sebesar 61,6% dan keterampilan sebesar 60,4%. Masyarakat kini memahami manfaat gizi buah lontar dan mampu mengolahnya menjadi produk yang lebih menarik dan tahan lama. Selain peningkatan kapasitas individu, hasil lain yang dicapai mencakup perbaikan desain kemasan, munculnya strategi pemasaran sederhana, serta mulai dikenalnya produk olahan melalui media sosial lokal. Program ini berkontribusi pada penguatan UMKM berbasis potensi lokal, peningkatan literasi pangan, serta mendukung kemandirian ekonomi rumah tangga di wilayah pesisir. Kegiatan ini membuktikan bahwa inovasi berbasis sumber daya lokal dapat menjadi solusi nyata untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) have been trusted and proven to antimalarial activity. Currently review information on morphology, phytochemical and pharmacology aspects of the papaya plant (Carica papaya L). Based on a literature study on papaya plants (Carica papaya L.) summarized from ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, Springer with search keys morphology, phytochemical, antimalarial, Carica papaya L, plasmodium falciparum, papaya leaf extract has antimalarial activity against plasmodium falciparum. Qualitative phytochemical analysis of papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L) showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and glycosides. Flavonoids showed antimalarial activity against P. falcifarum which inhibited the entry of L-glutamine and myoinositol into infected erythrocytes during the intraerthrocytic phase of the Plasmodium life cycle.

Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health threat driven by the misuse of antibiotics, particularly in areas with low antibiotic literacy. This study evaluated the impact of multimodal learning on improving antibiotic literacy among high school students in Jeneponto Regency. A total of forty-seven students from SMP Negeri 6 Tamalatea participated in a pretest-posttest design involving face-to-face sessions, printed modules, instructional videos, and role-playing activities. Data were collected via a validated questionnaire before and after the intervention. Results showed a significant increase in antibiotic literacy scores, with most students moving from low or moderate levels before the intervention to high levels afterward. Statistical analysis confirmed a strong positive correlation between the multimodal learning approach and literacy improvement. These findings demonstrate that combining various learning methods effectively engages diverse student learning styles, enhancing understanding and retention. The study supports the integration of multimodal educational strategies in school health programs to promote responsible antibiotic use and help prevent AMR from an early age.
