Abstract

Dyspepsia is a feeling of discomfort originating from the upper abdomen. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of drug use in patients with dyspepsia and the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics, especially age and sex, and risk factors at Rokan Hulu Hospital for the period June–November 2022. This study used a non-experimental descriptive method. Samples were taken from as many as 110 patients. The results showed that the most common patient characteristics were female sex by 66.4% (73 people), the elderly-late age group of 56 years by 30.9% (34 people), patients who did not work by 66.4% (73 people), the drug that was widely used was lansopazole by 48.7% (95 prescriptions), and the class of drug that was widely used was the proton pump inhibitor group by 48.7% (95 prescriptions). On the results of the chi-square test with a significance value of p = 0.05 for the relationship between age, gender, and risk factors, the age value is p = 0.025, while gender is p = 0.000. It was concluded that at Rokan Hulu Hospital, the evaluation of dyspepsia drugs was 100% correct and showed that there was a relationship between age, gender, and risk factors for work. Further research is expected to take observation locations in two or more places as a comparison for more varied results.

Abstract

Analgesics are substances that reduce or eliminate pain without causing loss of consciousness. Traditional medicines are considered safer than synthetic drugs. One plant with potential as an analgesic is the red shoot plant (Syzygium myrtifolium Walp). This plant contains flavonoids, anthocyanins, phenolics, and triterpenoids. This study aimed to determine the analgesic activity of ethanol extract of red shoot leaves (EPM) in male white mice. The analgesic effect was obtained through the writhing test using 1% glacial acetic acid induction. Twenty male white mice were divided into 5 treatment groups, including negative control (0.5% Na CMC), treatment 1 (EPM 3.7 mg/kgBW), treatment 2 (EPM 7.4 mg/kgBW), and treatment 3 (EPM 14.8 mg/kgBW), and positive control (mefenamic acid 500 mg/70 kgBW). All mice were given treatment according to their respective groups. After 30 minutes, all mice were induced with 1% glacial acetic acid at a dose of 10 ml/kgBW intraperitoneally. Then, the number of writhes was observed every 5 minutes for 60 minutes. The average number of writhes data was analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests. The results showed that treatment groups 2 (7.40 mg/kgBW) and 3 (14.80 mg/kgBW) showed analgesic activity in male white mice induced by 1% acetic acid. The best dose was 14.80 mg/kgBW with writhing protection of 34.74% and analgesic efficacy of 45.59% compared to mefenamic acid.

Abstract

The yellow sirsak plant (Annona montana) is an annonaceae family which has been used by the community as traditional medicine properties such as treating diarrhea, vitamin C deficiency and treating boils. This study aims to determine the cytotoxic activity of the larvae of Artemia salina Leach shrimp by using the BSLT method after giving extracts from the leaves and fruit of yellow sirsak (Annona montana). The results showed that the LC50 value of the n- hexane extract of yellow sirsak leaves was 45,84 µg/mL, the ethyl acetate extract of yellow sirsak leaves was 26,44 µg/mL and the ethanol extract of yellow sirsak leaves was 13,99 µg/mL. The n-hexane extract of yellow sirsak fruit was 31,46 µg/mL, the ethyl acetate extract was 40,45 µg/mL and the ethanol extract of the yellow sirsak fruit was 19,84 µg/mL. The mixture of n-hexane leaves and yellow sirsak fruit was 29,91 µg/mL, the ethyl acetate extract mixture of yellow sirsak leaves and fruit was 21,71 µg/mL and the mixture of ethanol extract and yellow sirsak fruit was 14,75 µg/mL. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of yellow sirsak leaves shows the most active cytotoxic activity with an LC50 value of 13,99 µg/mL.

Abstract

Background: Flavonoids are one of the most abundant groups of secondary metabolite compounds found in plant tissues. Pumpkin leaves (Cucurbita moschata Dulchesne ) can generally be used as antidiabetic, analgesic, nephroprotective and anticancer for stomach pain, jaundice, skin infections, lowering cholesterol, and blood sugar levels, and contain flavonoid compounds. Purpose: to determine the levels of flavonoid compounds contained in 70% ethanol extract of pumpkin leaves (Cucurbita moschata Dulchesne ). Methods: using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method and to determine the flavonoid content from the results of phytochemical screening in the ethanol extract of pumpkin leaves. Pumpkin leaf extract was obtained through maceration techniques with 70% ethanol as the solvent. Results: The study showed that there was flavonoid content in pumpkin leaves, which was orange in color and the results of the study determined the flavonoid levels using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 428 nm. om the resultsobtained from the measurement of the standard curve of quarcetin, it can be concluded that the higher the concentration used, the higher the absorbance value obtained and it can be seen that the results obtained total flavonoid content in the 70% ethanol extract sample of pumpkin leaves is 7.2672 mgQE/g.  Conclusion: There is a flavonoid compound content contained in pumpkin leaves.

Abstract

The study has been carried out of antiinflammatory activity of ethanol extract leaves of plant akar kaik-kaik (Uncaria cordata (Lour.) Merr of the male white rat (Rattus norvegicus). The ethanol extract was first conducted quality checks extracts include: organoleptic test, Thin Layer Chromatography profiles (TLC), determination of water content, drying shrinkage, and ash content. The results showed the ethanol extract the requirements extracts in general. Further test antiinflammatory activity of the white rat (Rattus norvegicus) males using the paw edema. Animal trials were divided into 5 groups: negative control group Na CMC 1%, a positive control diclofenac sodium 4.5 mg/kg weight of the rat and the ethanol extract dose of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg weight of the rat, the rats are challenged by a subcutaneous injection of 1% solution of carrageenan into the plantar side of the left hind paw, result showed that the ethanol extract doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg weight of the rat had a significantly antiinflammatory activity (p <0.05).
