Abstract

Traditional games have the potential to serve as culture-based learning resources that support contextual learning in elementary schools. However, their utilization in the learning process remains relatively low, including among Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) students as prospective teachers. This study aims to analyze the relationship between PGSD students’ perceptions and interests toward the use of traditional games as learning resources in elementary schools. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment correlation tests. The results showed that PGSD students had positive perceptions and high interest in the use of traditional games as learning resources. In addition, there was a positive and significant relationship between students’ perceptions and interests. These findings indicate that more positive perceptions toward traditional games are associated with higher interest in implementing them in elementary school learning. This study confirms that traditional games have the potential to be developed as active, contextual, and culture-based learning media.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines student teachers’ readiness to use instructional English in primary classroom contexts. A quantitative survey design was employed involving 133 student teachers from a Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) program at a public university in Indonesia. Readiness was conceptualized as a multidimensional construct encompassing knowledge, classroom language skills, self-confidence, and classroom interaction readiness. Data were collected using a self-developed questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results indicate a moderate level of readiness across all dimensions. Classroom Language Skills shows the highest mean score (M = 16.32, SD = 3.006), followed by Classroom Interaction Readiness (M = 13.62, SD = 2.492) and Self-Confidence (M = 12.95, SD = 2.820), while Knowledge of Instructional English records the lowest mean (M = 12.01, SD = 1.905). The findings reveal an imbalance in which performance-related competencies are more developed than conceptual understanding and confidence. This suggests that current ESP practices support functional language use but are less effective in fostering adaptive and confident instructional communication. Strengthening the integration of knowledge, practice, and reflective experience is therefore essential to better prepare student teachers to use English as a medium of instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between reading habits and students’ reading comprehension literacy among fourth and fifth grade students at UPT SPF SD Inpres Maccini Sombala 1, Makassar. The background of this research is the low level of reading habits and reading comprehension literacy among students in Indonesia, which remains a major challenge in primary education. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The sample consisted of 104 students selected using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through a reading habits questionnaire and a reading comprehension literacy test. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that students’ reading habits were mostly in the moderate category, with an average score of 56.577, while their reading comprehension literacy was in the fair category, with an average score of 62.298. The correlation test revealed a correlation coefficient of 0.128 with a significance value of 0.196 (p > 0.05), indicating that there is no significant relationship between reading habits and reading comprehension literacy. These findings suggest that reading comprehension literacy is influenced not only by reading habits but also by other factors that need to be further investigated.
