Abstract

Mahmud Darwisy is a Palestinian poet who has become a Palestinian icon. One of his early poetry collections was Awraq Al-Zaytun (Olive Trees) which included a poetry entitled Bithaqah Hawiyyah (Identity Card). This poetry has a magical power that is strong enough to describe Mahmud Darwisy's nationalism and the struggle of the Palestinian people to reclaim their homeland which has been colonized by Israel. The theory used is Riffaterre's semiotic in analyzing this poetry. This research aims to find the elements and forms of nationalism in Bithaqah Hawiyyah’s poetry. The method used is the descriptive-analysis. The conclusion from a semiotic reading of Bithaqah Hawiyyah's poetry is the fighting or nationalist spirit of the Palestinian people in reclaiming the Palestinian homeland which had been colonized by Israel. The elements of nationalism contained in this poetry are (1) the desire to achieve unity; (2) the desire to achieve independence; (3) the desire to achieve loyalty; (4) the desire to maintain national honor. Furthermore, the forms of nationalism contained in this poetry are (1) civic nationalism and (2) state nationalism. Keywords: Mahmud Darwisy, Poetry, Riffaterre Semiotics, Nationalism.

Abstract

The song Atouna el-Toufoule  popularized by Remi Bandali is a symbol of resistance and an expression of the pain of children who are victims of war. This study aims to reveal how the style of language in the song Atouna el-Toufoule  is used by the author as a form of artistic expression as well as social criticism. This study is a qualitative study with a descriptive analysis method. This study uses the theory of five levels of stylistic analysis by Syihabuddin Qalyubi. The results of this study include language styles based on the level of stylistic analysis, including: 1) al-mustawa al-sauti: repetition of the sounds kasrah and sukun at the end of a sentence, sawamit anfiyah (mim), sawamit infijariyah (ta marbuthah); 2) al-mustawa as-sharfi: use of the isim maf'ul form and writing words that do not comply with the rules of rasm; 3) al-mustawa al-nahwi: al-tikrar, istifham which deviates from its original meaning, 4) mustawa al-dalali: al-dalalah mu'jamiyah, al-dalalah siyaqiyah and also taraduf; 5) al-mustawa al-suwari: the use of tasybih, majaz, and harf nida

Abstract

Backround - Kitabah Muwajjahah instruction in Arabic Language Education programs faces persistent challenges, including low student participation, limited reflective engagement, and difficulties in producing coherent Arabic texts. These issues highlight the need for a learning approach that supports both writing development and active participation. Urgency of Research - Although various approaches to Arabic writing instruction have been explored, the integration of reflective journaling, creativity, and project-based learning remains limited. Such integration may provide more meaningful learning experiences and better support writing development. Research Objectives - This study aims to develop a Creative Reflective Journaling (CRJ) approach based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) for Kitabah instruction among students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Research Method - This Research and Development (R&D) study adopted the ADDIE model, focusing on the analysis, design, and development stages. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires using a mixed-methods approach. The participants were fourth-semester students enrolled in the Kitabah Muwajjahah course. Research Findings - The results showed that 66.7% of students experienced difficulties with learning Kitabah, while 78.4% needed a learning approach integrating writing practice, self-reflection, creativity, and contextual learning. Based on these findings, a CRJ-based PjBL approach consisting of seven learning stages was developed. Research Conclusion & Novelty - The study produced a CRJ-based PjBL learning design that may enhance writing skills, metacognitive awareness, learning motivation, and student engagement. Its novelty lies in integrating reflective journaling, creativity, and Project-Based Learning into a structured Kitabah framework.
