Abstract

Abstract Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMW) in the Johor Bahru region of Malaysia as community service partners, face problems related to the quality of personal and environmental health due to workplace conditions, limited health facilities and infrastructure, lack of knowledge, understanding, insight and awareness of Indonesian migrant workers to want to practice cleanliness and healthy living behavior. This health quality problem has an impact on the quality of life of migrant workers in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. In order and in an effort to increase the knowledge, insight and awareness of Indonesian migrant workers in the Johor Bahru region towards a clean and healthy quality of life which includes self, family, community and the environment, this community service activity is carried out in collaboration with LPPM-ALPTKNI and collaborating with one of the universities in Johor, namely Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). This activity will also support the efforts of the Indonesian Community Center (ICC) by the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru to empower Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. The approach to partners was carried out using an institutional approach to obtain accurate data about IMW conditions at the location. Partner participation is carried out with the Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) program which is implemented within 1-2 days. The methods used in training are seminars/workshops and mentoring. This service activity aims to: 1) increase knowledge, understanding, insight and awareness of IMW to want to adopt clean and healthy living behavior; 2) increase understanding of behavior and awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy environment for a better quality of life. Abstrak Pekerja Migran Indonesia (IMW) di wilayah Johor Bahru Malaysia sebagai mitra pengabdian masyarakat, menghadapi permasalahan terkait kualitas kesehatan diri dan lingkungan akibat kondisi tempat kerja, sarana dan prasarana kesehatan yang terbatas, kurangnya pengetahuan, pemahaman, wawasan, dan kesadaran pekerja migran Indonesia untuk ingin melakukan kebersihan dan sehat perilaku hidup. Masalah kualitas kesehatan ini berdampak pada kualitas hidup pekerja migran di Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Dalam rangka dan upaya meningkatkan pengetahuan, wawasan, dan kesadaran para pekerja migran Indonesia di wilayah Johor Bahru terhadap kualitas hidup yang bersih dan sehat yang meliputi diri sendiri, keluarga, masyarakat, dan lingkungan, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan bekerja sama dengan LPPM-ALPTKNI dan bekerja sama dengan salah satu perguruan tinggi di Johor, yaitu Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). Kegiatan ini juga akan mendukung upaya Indonesian Community Center (ICC) oleh KJRI Johor Bahru dalam rangka pemberdayaan pekerja migran Indonesia di Malaysia. Pendekatan kepada mitra dilakukan dengan pendekatan kelembagaan untuk mendapatkan data yang akurat tentang kondisi IMW di lokasi. Partisipasi mitra dilakukan dengan program Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) yang dilaksanakan dalam waktu 1-2 hari. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan adalah seminar/workshop dan pendampingan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) meningkatkan pengetahuan, pemahaman, wawasan, dan kesadaran IMW untuk ingin melakukan perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat; 2) meningkatkan pemahaman perilaku dan kesadaran akan pentingnya menjaga lingkungan yang sehat demi kualitas hidup yang lebih baik.

Abstract

Mahmud Darwisy is a Palestinian poet who has become a Palestinian icon. One of his early poetry collections was Awraq Al-Zaytun (Olive Trees) which included a poetry entitled Bithaqah Hawiyyah (Identity Card). This poetry has a magical power that is strong enough to describe Mahmud Darwisy's nationalism and the struggle of the Palestinian people to reclaim their homeland which has been colonized by Israel. The theory used is Riffaterre's semiotic in analyzing this poetry. This research aims to find the elements and forms of nationalism in Bithaqah Hawiyyah’s poetry. The method used is the descriptive-analysis. The conclusion from a semiotic reading of Bithaqah Hawiyyah's poetry is the fighting or nationalist spirit of the Palestinian people in reclaiming the Palestinian homeland which had been colonized by Israel. The elements of nationalism contained in this poetry are (1) the desire to achieve unity; (2) the desire to achieve independence; (3) the desire to achieve loyalty; (4) the desire to maintain national honor. Furthermore, the forms of nationalism contained in this poetry are (1) civic nationalism and (2) state nationalism. Keywords: Mahmud Darwisy, Poetry, Riffaterre Semiotics, Nationalism.

Abstract

Grammar learning is very close to literary works. Unfortunately, the use of short stories as learning media is still rare. This research aims to develop short story-based Arabic syntax learning media. The method used in this research is development research using Thiagarajan's 4D model. This study involved 30 students at the Department of Arabic Language Education, Faculty of Language and Arts, State University of Jakarta, who were taken by purposive sampling. The research instruments used were documents and questionnaires. At the same time, the data analysis technique used descriptive statistics. The results showed that based on the analysis of the current needs, it is necessary to develop Arabic syntax learning media that encourages students to learn actively and is packaged in fictional story literary work. Based on the experts' assessment results, the developed short story can be used as a learning medium for material, presentation, and language.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of implementing the Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) model integrated with digital media in improving naḥwu (Arabic grammar) learning competence at the Arabic Language Education Program, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The TAI model combines individual learning with structured group collaboration and, in this study, is integrated with three main digital platforms: Educaplay, Aljazeera Learning, and Learning Management System (LMS). A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 25 second-semester students selected through purposive sampling. Statistical analysis showed a significant increase in the average scores from pretest (71.30) to posttest (89.40), with a paired sample t-test result of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The implementation of digital-based TAI positively impacted students’ understanding of syntactic structures, fostered active engagement, and strengthened both collaborative and independent learning. The integration of digital media enriched the learning process through visualization, interactivity, and authentic Arabic language resources. The findings suggest that the digital TAI model is a viable and innovative instructional strategy for naḥwu learning in higher education, aligning with the characteristics of 21st-century learners.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasikan, menganalisis makna konseptual, dan menginterpretasikan fungsi utama penggunaan metafora dalam lirik lagu “Kupu-Kupu” yang dipopulerkan oleh Tiara Andini. Kajian ini tidak hanya bertujuan untuk mengapresiasi aspek kesastraan dalam musik populer, tetapi juga untuk memahami bagaimana bahasa digunakan secara kreatif guna menyampaikan pengalaman emosional yang kompleks kepada khalayak luas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis, berfokus pada ungkapan-ungkapan metafora yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu tersebut. Instrumen utama dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri (human instrument) dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa simak dan catat. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode padan referensial untuk menjelaskan makna dan teori klasifikasi metafora yang dikemukakan oleh Ullmann. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lirik lagu ini kaya akan penggunaan metafora, yang dapat diklasifikasikan ke dalam empat jenis berbeda. Jenis yang paling dominan adalah metafora dari konkret ke abstrak, dengan total 12 temuan. Metafora ini berfungsi secara efektif untuk menerjemahkan konsep perasaan yang abstrak (seperti malu atau semangat) menjadi gambaran konkret yang lebih mudah dipahami dan dirasakan oleh pendengar, contohnya pada frasa “pipi merona” dan “jaga bara kau jadi apiku”. Selain itu, ditemukan pula metafora antropomorfik (2 temuan) yang memberi sifat manusia pada konsep cinta dalam “Wahai cinta beri pertanda”, metafora sinestetik (1 temuan) yang mencampurkan indra perabaan dan pendengaran pada “bisingkan dada”, serta metafora kehewanan (1 temuan) yang mencitrakan subjek laksana makhluk bersayap pada “jangan hentikan kepak sayapmu”. Penggunaan beragam metafora ini secara efektif membangun imajinasi, memperdalam makna, dan memperkaya nilai estetika lirik lagu.

Abstract

The song Atouna el-Toufoule  popularized by Remi Bandali is a symbol of resistance and an expression of the pain of children who are victims of war. This study aims to reveal how the style of language in the song Atouna el-Toufoule  is used by the author as a form of artistic expression as well as social criticism. This study is a qualitative study with a descriptive analysis method. This study uses the theory of five levels of stylistic analysis by Syihabuddin Qalyubi. The results of this study include language styles based on the level of stylistic analysis, including: 1) al-mustawa al-sauti: repetition of the sounds kasrah and sukun at the end of a sentence, sawamit anfiyah (mim), sawamit infijariyah (ta marbuthah); 2) al-mustawa as-sharfi: use of the isim maf'ul form and writing words that do not comply with the rules of rasm; 3) al-mustawa al-nahwi: al-tikrar, istifham which deviates from its original meaning, 4) mustawa al-dalali: al-dalalah mu'jamiyah, al-dalalah siyaqiyah and also taraduf; 5) al-mustawa al-suwari: the use of tasybih, majaz, and harf nida

Abstract

The novel Al-Lissu wa Al-Kilaab is one of the novels by Naguib Mahfouz containing the story of a prisoner who wants to take revenge on his best friend. The main character in this novel is Said Mahran who works as a thief with his wife and best friends, Ilish and Nabawiyya. This novel tells the theft carried out by them, namely Rauf and Said. Both are teachers and students who collaborated in the theft. However, in the middle of carrying out the action, Rauf suddenly called the police and informed him of the theft committed by Said. Said was arrested and imprisoned, not to mention his wife and co-workers who wanted to help him because they had worked together to arrest him. The conflict begins when Said comes out of prison and wants to take revenge on those who have betrayed him. Because of the feeling of anger and annoyance that rages in the chest, it shows the attitude of speech actions born from a person's psychological state. In this case, speech acts born due to psychological conditions were found in pragmatic studies, namely expressive illocution speech. The approach is more suitable for understanding the concept of expressive speech in the novel. Thus, this research discusses the form and function of expressive speech in the novel Al-Lissu wa Al-Kilaab.The objectives of this research are: first, to describe the form of expressive speech in the novel Al-lissu wa Al-Kilaab by Naguib Mahfouz. Second, describing the expressive function in the novel Al-Lissu wa Al-Kilaab by Nanguib Mahfouz. The research method used in this study is the descriptive analytical method. The data collection method carried out is by the Determinant Element Sorting Technique (PUP). The analysis method used in this study is the extra-lingual matching method. The result of this research is to describe the form and expressive function contained in the novel Al-Lissu wa Al-Kilaab by Naguib Mahfouz. In this study, three types of speech acts were found, namely literal direct speech, literal indirect speech, and non-literal indirect speech. The function of expressive speech in the novel Al-Lissu wa Al-Kilaab shows feelings of anger, confidence, sadness, hope, gratitude, complaining, and farewell.

Abstract

This study aims to establish Arabic language proficiency standards through a TOAFL-based competency evaluation model that is recognised both nationally and internationally. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach following the Gall and Borg model. Data analysis ensured validity and reliability through prolonged engagement, persistent observation, and triangulation. The prototype developed in this study measures three key aspects of Arabic proficiency: listening comprehension, structure and written expression, and reading comprehension. Each aspect consists of several sections that assess different linguistic skills through 150 multiple-choice questions. The study also produced a question bank containing structured Arabic test materials designed for standardised assessment. Test scores are processed using a tabulation system that converts correct and incorrect responses into numerical values to generate total scores. The outcome of this research is a prototype of a standardised web-based Arabic language competency test model for Indonesian speakers, which can be used as a valid instrument for assessing Arabic language proficiency at the undergraduate and master’s levels.

Abstract

Improving the quality of Arabic language learning in Islamic schools (madrasas) is an urgent need to improve students' understanding and language skills. One of the challenges faced by teachers is the limited mastery of innovative learning methods that can increase student learning motivation. Educaplay-based gamification offers an interactive approach that makes learning more interesting and effective. This activity aims to improve the competence of Arabic language teachers at MTs. Al-Ajhariyyah Cibitung Bekasi in designing and implementing gamification-based learning using the Educaplay platform. The method used is direct service in the classroom with activities involving educational games, quizzes, and interactive exercises based on Educaplay. The conclusion shows that the Educaplay-based gamification method is an effective and engaging learning method that can be used by teachers at MTs Al-Ajhariyyah Cibitung Bekasi to support the teaching and learning process and increase student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of metaphors and metaphor translation strategies from Indonesian into Arabic in the song lyrics Cinta Sejati by Bunga Citra Lestari and its Arabic version Al-Ḥubb al-Khāliṣ, based on Newmark’s theory. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a text analysis design. The data consist of metaphorical expressions in the Indonesian lyrics as the source language and their equivalents in Arabic as the target language. Data were collected using observation and note-taking techniques, while data analysis involved classifying the types of metaphors and identifying the translation strategies applied. The findings reveal that the metaphors in Cinta Sejati fall into four categories: dead metaphors, cliché metaphors, stock metaphors, and original metaphors, with stock metaphors being the most dominant. No instances of recent metaphors were found. In translating the lyrics into Arabic, the translator employed only three of the seven metaphor translation strategies proposed by Newmark, namely reproducing the same image in the target language, replacing the image with a standard target-language image, and converting the metaphor into sense. The most frequently used strategy was reproducing the same image, particularly for metaphors that are universal and culturally acceptable in Arabic. These findings indicate that metaphor translation in song lyrics requires a balance between semantic equivalence, linguistic naturalness, and aesthetic effect. This study is expected to contribute to research on Indonesian–Arabic metaphor translation and to serve as a reference for teaching the translation of poetic texts.
