Abstract

Patients who have undergone odontectomy surgery are at risk of respiratory failure due to decreased oxygen saturation. Good handling is needed to overcome this, especially by placing the patient in the 60° Fowler position for 10 minutes, which facilitates breathing because gravity pulls the diaphragm down, increasing lung expansion. The purpose of this study was to determine how giving the 60° Fowler position to post-odontectomy patients affects their oxygen saturation levels. This study used a pre-experimental design using the pre-experiment one group pre-post test methodology. The sampling technique used purposive sampling of 36 respondents with an instrument in the form of an observation sheet. The statistical test used the Wilcoxon Sign Rank test to determine the effect of the fowler position variable on changes in oxygen saturation in post-odontectomy patients. The majority of respondents before being given the 60⁰ fowler position had oxygen saturation in the mild hypoxemia category of 25 respondents (69.4%). After being given the 60⁰ fowler position intervention, all respondents experienced a very significant average increase of 6.3%. The Wilcoxon test results obtained a result of 0.000 (p <0.05). There is a significant effect of giving the 60˚ fowler position on changes in oxygen saturation in post-odontectomy patients at IBS RSUD Dr. Tjitrowardojo Purworejo.

Abstract

Abstract

Nausea and vomiting are common side effects following spinal anesthesia and surgery. If postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are not managed, they can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, wound dehiscence, and rupture. Efforts to manage nausea and vomiting include pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. The use of ginger aromatherapy is a non-pharmacological method to alleviate postoperative nausea and vomiting. To determine the effect of ginger aromatherapy on postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping General Hospital. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The subjects were 57 postoperative patients who received spinal anesthesia, selected using purposive sampling. Nausea and vomiting responses were measured using the Gordon score.. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The p-value was 0.000, indicating that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. This means there is a significant effect of ginger aromatherapy on postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital.

Abstract

The administration of general anesthesia during surgery may lead to side effects, including hypothermia, which can induce shivering and impact the patient's postoperative condition. Non-pharmacological interventions, including the use of warm blankets and warm infusions, are carried out to treat shivering. This study aims to investigate the effects of warm blankets and warm infusions on postoperative shivering in patients undergoing general anesthesia at the Central Surgical Installation of Wates Hospital. This study aims to investigate the effects of warm blankets and warm infusions on postoperative shivering in patients undergoing general anesthesia at the Central Surgical Installation of RSUD (Regional General Hospital) Wates. This research employed a quantitative methodology utilizing a quasi-experimental design characterized by a two-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 162 respondents reported experiencing shivering following general anesthesia. The study employed purposive sampling, resulting in a sample size of 36 respondents. The data collection employed an observation sheet, while data processing utilized the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney test. The Wilcoxon signed rank test obtained results of (p = 0.000) for the warm blanket group and (p = 0.001) for the warm infusion group, indicating a significant effect of warm blankets and warm infusions on shivering. The hypothesis test results for the differences in the use of warm blankets and warm infusions, analyzed using the Mann Whitney test, indicated a significant difference (p = 0.001). A comparison of warm blankets and warm infusions for post-operative shivering following general anesthesia at the Central Surgery Installation of RSUD Wates indicates that warm blankets are more effective in reducing shivering.
