Abstract

This article aims to examine the importance of assessment in early childhood education and the various forms of relevant assessment used to support child development. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach in analyzing data from both journals and books that discuss early childhood assessment. The results of this study indicate that assessment has an important role in measuring the extent of early childhood development and is the basis for designing learning that is in accordance with the needs and stages of early childhood development. Assessment also functions as a medium for collaboration between teachers and parents to stimulate aspects of early childhood development and support learning programs in early childhood education institutions with parenting practices carried out by parents at home. This article discusses two main forms of assessment, namely formative assessment which is used to monitor and improve the learning process continuously, and summative assessment which is used to determine the achievement of learning objectives in a certain period. However, this study has limitations because it is conceptual and has not been equipped with empirical field data, so further research is needed with field studies to strengthen the findings related to assessment in early childhood.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the curriculum of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at IAIN Pontianak, focusing on the aspects of relevance, objectives, and implementation. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with document analysis methods. Data is obtained from curriculum documents and the vision-mission of the study program, as well as analysis of student theses, to assess the alignment between academic policy directions and research practices. The analysis results show that the curriculum of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at IAIN Pontianak integrates the study of Arabic language education, religious values, and elements of Borneo culture, which are formulated in the vision, mission, objectives, course structure, and academic programs such as drama-based muhadatsah. This integration has become a characteristic that distinguishes this study program from other Arabic language education programs in Indonesia. However, weaknesses are still found in the selection of thesis topics by students, which generally focus on pedagogical issues and have not widely examined the cultural dimensions of Borneo. The limitation of this research lies in its scope, which is only based on document analysis without supporting field data. Further research is recommended to study the implementation of the curriculum through field studies in analyzing the curriculum.

Abstract

Misyār marriage constitutes one of the most contentious issues in contemporary Islamic legal discourse. Although it is formally recognized as valid, it raises significant social and ethical challenges. Previous research has primarily focused on the legality of misyār marriage within fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), state regulations, or public responses. This article addresses a gap in the literature by examining how religious scholars affiliated with Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in East Java negotiate normative texts, scholarly traditions, and social realities in their responses to this phenomenon. Employing a socio-legal framework, the study draws on semi-structured interviews with 14 key informants, non-participant observations within four residential communities in Surabaya, and document analysis of classical fiqh texts alongside marriage archives. The findings identify three principal models of misyār marriage in Surabaya: as a strategy utilized by career women, as short-term unions designed to circumvent bureaucratic complexities, and as transnational marriages involving foreign men. These practices are motivated not solely by biological needs but also by economic, social, and cultural factors. The responses of NU religious scholars coalesce into two main orientations: cultural scholars, who emphasize the contractual validity based on the principle of tarāḍī (mutual consent), and structural scholars, who oppose the practice by highlighting the sacredness and ethical objectives of marriage, particularly the protection of women, children, and the family institution. This article argues that the ensuing debate reflects an epistemological dialectic between formal legality and social legitimacy, while also demonstrating that Islamic law in the Indonesian context serves a dual function: preserving the continuity of the fiqh tradition and simultaneously acting as a dynamic site of change responsive to contemporary socio-cultural developments.

Abstract

This article aims to map the trends of themes and topics discussed in the theses of students in the Qur'anic and Tafsir Studies Program at IAIN Pontianak and to relate them to the vision and mission of the study program and the socio-religious context of the community in West Kalimantan. In analyzing the data, this research employs a qualitative approach with thematic analysis on 20 thesis titles from the year 2024. The results of this study indicate that there is a connection between the students and the vision and mission of the Qur'anic and Tafsir Studies Program at IAIN Pontianak for 2024. The results of this research indicate that students have a connection with the vision and mission of the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program at IAIN Pontianak for the year 2024. This is based on the scientific orientation, approaches, and accommodation towards the Borneo culture. The vision of the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program emphasizes the importance of excellence and openness in the study of Islam and local Borneo culture. In addition, in the research, students also support the mission of the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program, particularly in terms of scientific excellence and research in Islamic studies. The research theme of students also strengthens the cultural heritage that forms the identity of Islamic scholarship and Bornean culture. However, there are still few student studies that discuss religious moderation in the context of West Kalimantan, both from the aspect of social dynamics and the realities of religious practices. In addition, there is limited integration of interpretive approaches with other disciplines such as fiqh, sufism, and socio-political studies. This research recommends strengthening the academic policy direction of the study program to encourage research that is more relevant to the needs of the local community, religious moderation, and the socio-religious dynamics of the West Kalimantan community.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the characteristics of Qur'anic manuscripts in West Kalimantan through a literature study approach. The existence of Qur'anic manuscripts in this region not only represents the transmission of the sacred text but also reflects the social, cultural, and intellectual dynamics of local Muslim communities during the spread of Islam in the archipelago. The study employed qualitative methods with content analysis techniques, analyzing various academic sources, such as journal articles and research reports relevant to the study of Qur'anic manuscripts and manuscripts in West Kalimantan. The results indicate that the study of Qur'anic manuscripts in West Kalimantan is still dominated by codicology and physical descriptions, with a focus on material aspects, types of rasm, khat, illumination, and the context of palace patronage. Manuscripts found in areas such as Sambas, Sintang, Landak, and Pontianak exhibit diverse material characteristics, including the use of local materials such as tapa bark and imported European paper, indicating the existence of global trade networks. In terms of layout, the main text is generally written in black ink with red ink as markers for syakl and waqf, accompanied by skolia such as maqra and juz, which indicate the manuscript's pedagogical function in religious education. These findings confirm that the Qur'an manuscripts in West Kalimantan are the result of the interaction between local traditions and the broader Islamic scholarly network in the archipelago. Therefore, further comparative and interdisciplinary research is needed to uncover textual variants, scholarly transmission networks, and the position of West Kalimantan manuscripts within the tradition of copying mushafs in the Southeast Asian region.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the role of Arabic in early childhood within the context of millennial Madurese families in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan Province. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to gain an in-depth understanding of parents’ experiences and practices in introducing and habituating the use of Arabic to early childhood. The primary data was obtained from five millennial Madurese parents who have early childhood in Kubu Raya Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation techniques, supported by secondary data in the form of literature relevant to early childhood education, bilingualism, and Arabic language learning. The data collection process was carried out gradually and continuously throughout November 2025. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that millennial parents in Madura introduce Arabic to young children through various parenting strategies, such as integrating the language into daily activities, modelling behaviour, religious activities, and utilising digital media such as YouTube videos with parental guidance. Arabic is positioned not only as a tool for linguistic mastery but also as a medium for character formation and the internalisation of Islamic values. This study emphasises that the quality of interaction, consistency in parenting, and the family environment are key factors in the successful introduction of Arabic to early childhood.
