Abstract

Bacterial infection is a health disorder that can be transmitted from one person to another. Bacteria that cause infectious diseases include Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. In the kepok banana hump, there are secondary metabolites such as saponins, glycosides and tannins that act as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of ethyl acetate extract of kepok banana weevil (Musa paradisiaca L.) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The stages of the research began with the collection of materials, determination, processing of materials, making of ethyl acetate extraction, concentration of extracts, testing of antibacterial activity. The research method used a laboratory experiment using the disc diffusion method. Kepok banana weevil extraction was carried out using the maceration method with ethyl acetate, the antibacterial activity was tested using the agar diffusion method. The results of the antibacterial test against S. aureus bacteria in the ethyl acetate extract of kepok banana boggol (Musa paradisiaca L.) with concentrations of 0.3µg, 0.5µg, 0.6µg resulted in an average inhibition diameter of 7.1 mm, 7.7 mm, and 10.2 mm these three concentrations had an antibacterial effect in the category of resistant less than14 mm. In the positive control using the antibiotic chloramphenicol, an average inhibition zone of 21.3 mm was produced, including the Susceptible 19 mm category, while the negative control using ethyl acetate did not form an inhibition zone. In Escherichia coli bacteria At concentrations of 0.3 g, 0.5 g, 0.6 g of ethyl acetate extract of kepok banana boggol (Musa paradisiaca L.) the diameter of the inhibition zones averaged 6.9 mm, 7.6 mm, and 8.3. mm, these three concentrations had an antibacterial effect in the category of resistant less than 14 mm. In the positive control, chloramphenicol produced an average inhibition zone of 20.8 mm, including the Susceptible 19 mm category, while in the negative control using ethyl acetate, no inhibition zone was formed.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity (PkM) aims to identify risk factors for diabetes mellitus (DM) as one of the comorbidities that exacerbate the condition of the elderly. The expected outcome of this activity is for residents to be aware of the risk factors for the disease and their own health conditions, particularly regarding DM. It is hoped that this activity will increase community awareness about DM management. The activity was attended by 50 residents of Jayaraga Village, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency. The results of the activity revealed that 7 individuals (14%) confirmed having diabetes mellitus, 31 individuals (62%) had hypertension, and 12 individuals (24%) had gout. Therefore, through this community service initiative, we conducted a health screening program that included free blood pressure checks, uric acid tests, and blood sugar level measurements, as well as weight checks and health education, particularly on diabetes and its prevention methods. With the implementation of this community service initiative, we hope that the health-related issues in Jayaraga Village, Tarogong Kidul Sub-district, Garut Regency, can be addressed to some extent.

Abstract

Some of the diseases suffered by school children include influenza, worms, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Diarrhea is one of the highest diseases suffered by children because they do not wash their hands with soap. the purpose of implementing community service activities to foster understanding for MI 2 students to have a healthy cleans living behavior by washing hands with soap and brushing teeth. The method used in this community service activity is to provide counseling on proper hand washing with soap through seven steps of good and correct washing dan brushing the teeth. Based on the analysis of the situation and the problems faced by partners, lecturers as implementers of community service programs and professionals from universities and assisted by students will provide a solution to overcome the difficulty of washing hands in finding solutions to problems The solution offered by the team proposing the service program is the Extension of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) Program Through Hand Washing Activities Using Soap in Early Childhood. As a result of this community service activity, students have understood the benefits of washing hands with soap and brushing teeth.

Abstract

Acute respiratory infections (ARIs), including those caused by Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), remain a global health concern, and no specific therapy or vaccine is currently available. Hesperidin, the main flavonoid in Garut orange peel (Citrus nobilis var. chrysocarpha), is known for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immunomodulatory activities. This study was an in vivo pilot study using 35 male Balb/c mice divided into seven groups: normal control, negative control (5% imiquimod), positive control (levamisole), and hesperidin-treated groups at 50, 100, and 150 mg/kg body weight, either alone or in combination with imiquimod. Observed parameters included total leukocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), body weight, organ weight, and lung histology. Hesperidin was extracted using 70% ethanol and identified by thin-layer chromatography (TLC).Results showed that body weight data were normally distributed, with no significant differences between groups (p > 0.05), indicating that hesperidin was safe at the tested doses. Hematological analysis revealed significant differences in leukocyte counts (p = 0.001), lymphocytes (p = 0.002), and NLR (p = 0.001). Imiquimod induced systemic inflammation, as evidenced by increased leukocytes, lymphocytes, NLR, and lung inflammation scores. Hesperidin exhibited dose-dependent immunomodulatory effects; the 100 mg/kgBW dose combined with imiquimod produced the most optimal results, characterized by low NLR and a histology score of 0, reflecting controlled inflammation and effective adaptive immune activation. In contrast, the 150 mg/kgBW dose triggered excessive inflammatory responses.

Abstract

Sindanggalih Karangpawitan Village is an area with high agricultural activity, especially in corn cultivation and pine plantations. Corn production generates corn cob waste that has not been optimally utilized, while abundant pine nuts also have the potential as raw material for briquettes. The implementation method used is an approach and application of technology. The results obtained show that residents' knowledge of processing waste from corn cobs and pine nuts has increased, and residents have the ability to process waste and are able to use technology for the processing. From this activity, it can be concluded that the residents of RW 15 have understood and are able to process corn cobs and pine nuts into briquettes as sustainable energy. In addition, a community business group called the independent green energy group has been formed to continue the briquette processing business. This community service activity has opened up new business opportunities and provided an alternative energy source that can be used by the community in their daily lives.
