Abstract

The increase in life expectancy in Indonesia has led to a growing number of pre-elderly individuals facing various physical, social, and psychological changes. This study aims to understand the dynamics of self-acceptance and loneliness among pre-elderly individuals. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was used. The participants were 3 pre-elderly women aged 45–59 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s thematic analysis technique. The results show that pre-elderly individuals with high self-acceptance tend to experience lower loneliness. They accept themselves positively, think optimistically, and maintain active social relationships. Conversely, those with low self-acceptance are more likely to feel lonely and isolated. Family social support strengthens self-acceptance and reduces loneliness. This study highlights that self-acceptance and social support play key roles in enhancing the psychological well-being of pre-elderly individuals. Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about significant changes in higher education, particularly in how students acquire, understand, and manage academic information. This study aims to deeply understand students' experiences using AI as a learning tool and explore how they interpret the technology's role in supporting academic activities. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used, with three informants selected purposively from various study programs actively using AI. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that students view AI as an effective tool for improving learning efficiency, deepening conceptual understanding, and motivating them to be more independent and creative. However, challenges were also identified, including dependence on technology, doubts about the accuracy of information, and concerns about academic ethics violations such as digital plagiarism. Student experiences also demonstrate that AI plays a dual role as both a learning tool and a cognitive partner in the modern learning process. Therefore, the use of AI needs to be directed wisely and accompanied by strong digital literacy to balance technological convenience and the development of critical thinking skills. These findings emphasize the importance of adaptive, humanistic, and ethical learning strategies in the era of digital higher education transformation.

Abstract

This study aims to explore parental involvement in the assessment process for children with autism and to understand their experiences, roles, and challenges. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design involving three parents of children with autism who had undergone assessment by professionals. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis. The results revealed five main themes: parents' initial awareness of their child's developmental differences, their role in providing developmental information, emotional experiences during the assessment process, the benefits of the assessment in improving understanding of the child's needs, and challenges faced during the process. The findings indicate that parental involvement significantly contributes to enriching assessment information and improving understanding of the child's condition, despite facing various barriers such as limited knowledge, time, cost, and emotional aspects. This study concludes that a family-centered approach is crucial in the assessment process. Therefore, stronger collaboration between professionals and parents is needed to support the optimal development of children with autism.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction of the meaning of tolerance among individuals with varying levels of openness to experience. Tolerance, as a fundamental value in a multicultural society, is understood not only as an acceptance of differences but also as an active process involving understanding, empathy, and openness to diversity. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore individuals' subjective experiences in interpreting tolerance. Subjects were selected through purposive sampling, with 3 participants with high and low levels of openness identified using the Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2). Data collection involved in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, while thematic analysis was used. The results show that individuals with high levels of openness interpret tolerance as an active, inclusive, and reflective attitude involving dialogue, empathy, and involvement in diverse social interactions. Conversely, individuals with low levels of openness tend to interpret tolerance as a passive attitude oriented toward conflict avoidance and maintaining social distance. These differences are also evident in the individuals' social behavior, cognition, and social experiences. Individuals with high openness demonstrate greater flexibility of thought and broader social experiences, while those with low openness tend to have more rigid thought patterns and limited social experiences. These findings suggest that tolerance is a construct of meaning influenced by an individual's personality and social experiences. Therefore, developing tolerance in education needs to consider personality aspects and provide diverse social experiences so that the value of tolerance can be internalized more deeply and meaningfully.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of high academic pressure among students who possess excessively high self-standards or perfectionistic personality traits. The primary issue examined is how these students manage their emotions amidst a constant fear of failure. This study aims to gain a profound understanding of the emotion regulation strategies employed by perfectionistic students. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach to explore the participants 3 subjective experiences. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with active students selected via purposive sampling. The results indicate that participants tend to use maladaptive strategies, such as expressive suppression and procrastination, when they feel unable to achieve maximum targets. Social support and emotional maturity were identified as key factors helping them transition toward adaptive strategies. The study concludes with an emphasis on the necessity of specialized psychological support for perfectionistic students to develop self-compassion.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the subjective experiences of individuals in relationships with partners with Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD) tendencies through a qualitative approach. AvPD is characterized by a pattern of feelings of inadequacy, high sensitivity to rejection, and a tendency to avoid intense social interactions, including intimate relationships. The research method used a phenomenological design with in-depth interviews with three participants who had experience in romantic relationships with individuals with AvPD symptoms. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify emerging patterns of experience. The results showed that individuals in these relationships often experience complex emotional dynamics, such as confusion, frustration, and feelings of emotional unfulfillment. Participants expressed difficulties in building emotional closeness because their partners tended to maintain distance, avoid conflict, and have an excessive fear of rejection. On the other hand, participants also showed high empathy and attempted to understand their partners' psychological conditions, although this often resulted in emotional exhaustion. This study highlights the importance of psychological understanding, effective communication, and professional support in maintaining relationships with individuals with AvPD tendencies. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of psychological interventions and increase awareness of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships involving personality disorders.

Abstract

This study aims to deeply understand the emotional experiences and personality patterns of students with Social Anxiety Disorder dealing with various social situations. Students, as individuals in the early adult stage, are required to actively interact in academic environments. However, for those experiencing social anxiety, these demands can be a source of pressure that affects their emotional state and behavior. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to explore the subjective experiences of the participants. The research subjects consisted of three students selected through purposive sampling technique with the criteria of having a tendency towards social anxiety. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and its validity was tested using triangulation. The results showed that students experienced anxiety, fear of negative judgment, low self-confidence, and a tendency to avoid social situations. Physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, sweating, and difficulty speaking also appeared. In addition, a personality pattern was found that tended to be introverted and sensitive to the judgments of others. This condition impacted academic activities and social relationships. This research is expected to provide a basis for developing effective interventions and mentoring.

Abstract

Although introverted personality has been widely examined in psychological research, studies that specifically discuss the subjective meaning of solitude among adolescents and young adults with introverted tendencies remain limited. Previous studies have tended to focus on patterns of social interaction, loneliness, and psychological well-being through quantitative approaches. This study aims to explore the meaning of solitude among individuals with introverted tendencies during adolescence and early adulthood. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, involving three participants aged 18–20 years who were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and field notes, and were then analyzed using phenomenological analysis techniques. The results showed that solitude was interpreted as a positive psychological need because it functions as a means of self-reflection, emotional regulation, and energy recovery after social interaction. The experience of solitude was influenced by internal factors in the form of emotional fatigue and external factors in the form of unpleasant social experiences. However, excessive solitude has the potential to cause loneliness and a tendency toward overthinking. These findings contribute to the development of studies on personality psychology and psychological well-being by emphasizing that solitude can be understood as an adaptive strategy, rather than merely a form of maladaptive social withdrawal. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of a balance between time spent in solitude and social interaction in maintaining the psychological well-being of individuals with introverted tendencies.

Abstract

The Individualized Education Program (IEP), known in Indonesia as Program Pendidikan Individual (PPI), is a learning-planning instrument specifically designed to address the personalized learning needs of children with special needs. Although its use has been widely encouraged within Indonesia's inclusive education policy, its implementation in the field still faces various challenges, particularly at schools that lack adequate support systems. This study aims to explore how teachers in Banda Aceh City understand, design, and implement IEPs for students with special needs, as well as the obstacles they encounter in the process. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving five teachers selected through purposive sampling as informants. Data were collected through observation and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, comprising data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that IEP implementation in practice remains heavily dependent on individual teacher initiative, involves minimal multidisciplinary collaboration, and is constrained by limited time, training, and family support. These findings offer an initial picture of the gap between policy ideals and the reality of IEP implementation at the school level, while also informing the development of more structured teacher mentoring systems for educating children with special needs.
