Abstract

This community service initiative aims to enhance awareness and encourage active participation among the residents of Peunaga Cut Ujong Village, Meureubo Subdistrict, West Aceh Regency, in environmental conservation efforts through mangrove planting. Located in a coastal area vulnerable to erosion and exposed to air pollution due to coal-burning activities, this village faces significant environmental challenges. Employing an educational and participatory approach, the program involved raising awareness about the ecological functions of mangroves and conducting direct planting activities in a mangrove forest area approximately 100 meters from the shoreline. The outcomes of the initiative indicated a positive response from the community, demonstrated by increased environmental awareness and active involvement in conservation efforts. Mangrove planting is expected to function as a coastal protection barrier, an air pollutant absorber, and a potential site for ecotourism and aquaculture development. This initiative highlights the importance of synergy between academia, the local community, and the industrial sector in creating sustainable environmental solutions. Continuous evaluation and the replication of similar programs are strongly recommended to enhance their long-term impact.

Abstract

The degradation process of food waste with anaerobic digestion technology can be performed in a single-stage bioreactor. This study examined the effect of a single-stage digester configuration on biogas production using cow manure inoculum at a tropical ambient temperature of 27.3 ± 1 °C. The single-stage digester had a working volume of 369 L. Feeding food waste into the bioreactor was carried out 5 times a week with a maximum OLR of 0.8 Kg/day. The average biogas production was 90.6 L/day. Also, the results showed that applying a single-stage digester configuration in degrading food waste could produce a carbon recovery of 71.41% in the carbon mass balance analysis. These results indicate that the single-stage digester configuration performed well. The single-stage digester configuration gradually increased biogas production.

Abstract

Pertumbuhan populasi global mendorong peningkatan kebutuhan energi yang menjadi tantangan serius bagi pembangunan berkelanjutan. Indonesia, sebagai konsumen energi primer terbesar kelima di Asia Pasifik, menghadapi tekanan terhadap ketahanan energi, khususnya di sektor rumah tangga. Di tengah dominasi energi konvensional, Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam energi terbarukan, salah satunya biomassa dari limbah peternakan sapi. Limbah ini mengandung bahan organik tinggi yang dapat dikonversi menjadi biogas melalui teknologi biodigester, sekaligus mengurangi pencemaran lingkungan dan mendukung kemandirian energi masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan membangun biodigester skala kecil yang sesuai dengan kondisi lokal di Universitas Teuku Umar (UTU), Aceh. Biodigester dirancang sebagai reaktor anaerob tertutup yang mengubah limbah kotoran sapi menjadi biogas dan pupuk organik. Melalui pendekatan berbasis komunitas, teknologi ini diharapkan dapat mendukung pengelolaan limbah yang ramah lingkungan dan meningkatkan kemandirian energi masyarakat. Selain itu, proyek ini menjadi sarana pembelajaran aplikatif bagi mahasiswa UTU dalam bidang teknik mesin, lingkungan, dan energi terbarukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa biodigester berpotensi menjadi solusi strategis dalam pengelolaan limbah dan penyediaan energi alternatif yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

     AbstractKuta Padang Village, situated in West Aceh Regency, experiences drainage issues that result in flooding reaching the road surface during periods of heavy rainfall. This condition occurs due to waste accumulation in the drainage channels, overgrown vegetation obstructing flow along the channels, and sedimentation leading to siltation. The objective of this study are to analyze the total flood discharge that the existing drainage system can accommodate and to design an eco-drainage system using infiltration wells. The data used in this research consist of primary data (measurements of drainage dimensions, flow direction, and existing drainage conditions) and secondary data, including rainfall data, topographic maps, land use maps, and drainage network maps, which were processed using hydrological and hydraulic analyses. A Hydraulic analysis was conducted to evaluate the capacity of the drainage channels required in the eco-drainage planning through the use of plastic drum infiltration wells. Based on data processing and analysis results, the rainfall with a 5-year return period was found to be 201.27 mm/hour. The comparison between the planned flood discharge and the capacity of the existing drainage channels at three sample points—channels 2, 20, and 40—showed that channels 20 and 40 can still accommodate the planned flood discharge, while channel 2 is insufficient since its capacity is lower than the flood discharge. Mitigation efforts include normalizing the channels that are still functional, while for channel 2, the implementation of an eco-drainage system is proposed through the construction of nine infiltration wells, each with a radius of 0.3 m and a height of 1 m. Keywords:flooding, eco-drainage, infiltration well      AbstrakDesa Kuta Padang yang berada di Kabupaten Aceh Barat merupakan wilayah yang memiliki permasalahan drainase sehingga menyebabkan genangan hingga ke badan jalan pada saat curah hujan tinggi. Kondisi ini terjadi akibat adanya sampah pada saluran, rumput yang menghambat sepanjang saluran, dan sedimentasi yang menyebabkan pendangkalan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis besarnya debit total banjir yang dapat ditampung oleh saluran drainase eksisting dan perencanaan desain sistem eco-drainage melalui sumur resapan. Data yang digunakan adalah data primer (pengukuran dimensi drainase), arah aliran, kondisi drainase eksisting, dan data sekunder berupa data curah hujan, peta topografi skala dan tata guna lahan, serta peta jaringan drainase yang diolah menggunakan analisis hidrologi dan analisis hidrolik. Analisis hidrolika diperlukan untuk mengevaluasi kapasitas saluran drainase yang diperlukan dalam perencanaan eko-drainase sumur resapan menggunakan drum plastik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh curah hujan dengan kala ulang 5 tahun sebesar 201,27 mm/jam. Hasil perbandingan debit banjir rencana dengan kapasitas debit saluran eksisting pada tiga titik sampel saluran 2, saluran 20, dan saluran 40, diketahui bahwa saluran 20 dan saluran 40 masih mampu menampung debit banjir rencana, sedangkan saluran 2 tidak mencukupi karena kapasitas saluran lebih kecil daripada debit banjir. Upaya penanganan dilakukan dengan normalisasi saluran untuk saluran yang masih berfungsi baik, sementara pada saluran 2 direncanakan penerapan sistem eko-drainase melalui pembangunan sembilan unit sumur resapan dengan dimensi radius 0,3 m dan tinggi 1 m.     Kata Kunci:            genangan, eko-drainase, sumur resapan
