Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of role playing techniques in improving assertive behavior among students who are victims of bullying at SMP Negeri 4 Palopo. This research uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design of the one-group pretest-posttest type. The subjects of the study were 10 students who were identified as bullying victims, selected using purposive sampling based on interviews and observations conducted with the school counselor (BK teacher). The main instrument used in this study was a Likert-scale questionnaire on assertive behavior, supported by observation sheets and interview guidelines as complementary data. Prior to its use, the questionnaire was tested for validity and reliability. The validity test was conducted using Pearson correlation on 30 trial students, resulting in 41 valid items with r-count values greater than the r-table (0.361). The reliability test showed a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.874, indicating high internal consistency. Data analysis techniques included descriptive analysis, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and hypothesis testing using the paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase in posttest scores compared to pretest scores, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the role playing technique is effective in enhancing assertive behavior in students who are victims of bullying. The implication of this study suggests that school counselors should consider applying this technique as an intervention strategy to build students’ confidence and assertive communication skills in school settings

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between parental communication and emotional loneliness among students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo. Emotional loneliness is a psychological condition characterized by feelings of emptiness, alienation, and the absence of meaningful emotional closeness with significant others, including parents. Effective communication between parents and children is believed to provide emotional support that can reduce feelings of loneliness. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 108 students selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires on parental communication and emotional loneliness. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, which showed a significant relationship between the two variables, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.625, indicating a strong positive correlation. These findings suggest that the better the quality of communication between students and their parents, the lower the level of emotional loneliness experienced. Therefore, open, empathetic, and supportive communication from parents is essential in maintaining the emotional well-being of university students.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and understand teachers' perceptions regarding the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction, with the goal of identifying both benefits and challenges in real classroom settings. A qualitative case study design was employed to gain in-depth insights into the phenomenon. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with two experienced language instructors from a private university in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed thematically using Nvivo R14 software to ensure systematic coding and theme development. The findings revealed two primary themes: teachers’ positive perceptions and the challenges they face in using ICT. The participants highlighted that ICT tools facilitate ESP teaching by supporting material delivery and increasing student engagement. Nonetheless, they also reported significant challenges, including limited internet connectivity, increased instances of plagiarism, and difficulties in monitoring student performance. This study provides up-to-date insights into the practical realities of ICT integration in ESP instruction within Indonesian higher education, offering valuable implications for educators, policymakers, and curriculum developers aiming to optimize ICT use in language teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the effectiveness of family support on the career interest tendencies of students at SMAN 1 Palopo. This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, where data is collected through in-depth interviews with twelfth-grade students. Holland's Career Theory is used as a theoretical foundation to understand the relationship between students' personalities and their career choices. The research results show that family support has a significant impact on students' self-confidence and motivation in determining their career paths. Some students, like FFR, receive positive support from their families, which encourages them to pursue careers aligned with their personal interests, while students like FF face pressure from their families to choose careers that are considered safer. This research also found that schools play an important role in providing career counseling services, which help students explore their interests. In conclusion, cooperation between families, schools, and students is very important in the career decision-making process, where constructive family support can enhance students' confidence, while excessive pressure can lead to confusion and dissatisfaction.
