Abstract

Urban youth often lack access to practical agricultural education, especially in non-formal learning environments where structured curricula are limited. The community faces increasing challenges in food security, environmental awareness, and sustainable skill-building among students with limited exposure to farming. The community service program aimed to improve students’ understanding of vertical agriculture through practical and inclusive educational activities. The facilitators delivered hands-on workshops at PKBM Cahaya Rejeki, involving 20 students in interactive sessions using recycled materials to build vertical gardens in limited urban spaces. The team applied the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Rank Test to compare students’ pre-test and post-test results, finding a statistically significant increase in their agricultural knowledge. Field observations confirmed the positive outcome, as students showed increased enthusiasm, curiosity, and confidence throughout the activities. The program bridged educational and environmental gaps by offering a simple, relatable, and replicable gardening model. The initiative demonstrated that vertical gardening could serve as a powerful tool to promote sustainability, practical skills, and ecological literacy among underserved urban youth. The findings suggest that local governments, educators, and community institutions should collaborate to integrate urban farming into non-formal education programs, thereby ensuring a broader impact and promoting long-term behavioral change.

Abstract

The educational paradigm has been profoundly transformed by technological advancement, including Islamic education. One of the greatest challenges is how to adapt learning media to align with technological progress while preserving the moral values that form the foundation of Islamic education. The purpose of this study is to develop ideas for learning media based on the values of the Qur’an and Hadith that can integrate the moral, spiritual, and cognitive elements of students. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research focuses on the values and concepts derived from the Qur’an and Hadith, as well as their relationship to the design of contemporary learning media. Data were collected through literature review and relevant journal research. The results of the study show that Islamic educational values such as knowledge (Iqra’), compassion (Rahmah), patience (Sabr), the exemplary behavior of the Prophet Muhammad (Uswah Hasanah), and effective communication have a significant influence on shaping Islamic-based learning media. The stages of media development—including needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation — systematically ensure the integration between academic information and religious principles. To make learning not only informative but also transformative, media design must integrate cognitive and spiritual values. Comprehensive Islamic education aims to enlighten the mind and nurture noble character by balancing intellectual and moral aspects. Therefore, the development of learning media based on the values of the Qur’an and Hadith is expected to become an innovative solution for contemporary Islamic education. It will harmonize technological progress with spirituality, making learning a means of attaining blessings and devotion to Allah SWT.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze productive zakat management and its integration in strengthening community food security in Kediri City. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation at BAZNAS Kediri City. The findings reveal that productive zakat management operates effectively through performance-based planning, implemented via the Kediri Peduli program as a social safety net and Kediri Makmur as an economic empowerment instrument, both contributing to increased income and household food security among mustahik. However, limited institutional capacity, amil human resource readiness, and low public zakat literacy remain key obstacles. This study concludes that strengthening integrated zakat governance is essential to optimize zakat's role as an economic empowerment instrument and sustainable community food security.
