Abstract

Every mother can breastfeed, but there are obstacles that hinder breastfeeding. Low exclusive breastfeeding rates can be influenced by several other factors such as socio-cultural, psychological, physical, health workers, knowledge, and family/community organization support. Compounds in turmeric are useful as a stimulus to facilitate the release of breast milk from the body so that breast milk will be quickly produced by the body through the performance of the hormone prolactin. The general objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of turmeric decoction on breast milk production in postpartum mothers at PMB Sari Meryandi. This research method used Quasi-Experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest research design. Sampling was carried out using an accidental sampling technique with a total of 15 respondents. The sampling technique used was a questionnaire and an interview as the instrument. The population of this study was postpartum mothers on days 3-5 who were exclusively breastfeeding and experiencing irregular milk production. This study was conducted for 7 consecutive days by giving 100 grams of boiled turmeric water, followed by 200cc of water, to their babies, and drinking it either cold or warm. Smooth breastfeeding was categorized as having an average milk production of >50cc/24 hours. The data analysis used was the Wilcoxon test (data with non-normal distribution). The results of the univariate analysis showed an average knowledge level in the intervention group. The results of the 2-tailed Sig value <0.05, which means there is a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test values after the administration of turmeric boiled water in the intervention group.

Abstract

Background: Labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor is a significant physiological and psychological challenge for women and may influence labor progression and childbirth experience. Non-pharmacological interventions are increasingly recommended to support maternal comfort and promote physiological labor. Warm compress therapy has been widely applied during the second stage of labor; however, evidence regarding its effectiveness during the active phase of the first stage of labor remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of warm compress therapy on labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The study was conducted at PMB Erni Artiqoh, Bumi Makmur Village, involving 20 laboring women selected through total sampling. Labor pain intensity was measured using a numerical rating scale before and after the application of warm compress therapy. The intervention consisted of warm compress application at a temperature of 38–45°C for approximately 20 minutes during the active phase of labor. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The results showed a clear reduction in labor pain intensity following the intervention. Before the intervention, most participants reported severe pain levels, while after warm compress therapy, pain scores shifted to mild-to-moderate levels. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test demonstrated a statistically significant difference in labor pain intensity before and after the intervention (p = 0.001), indicating that warm compress therapy effectively reduced labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor. Conclusion: Warm compress therapy was found to be effective in reducing labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor. This non-invasive, low-cost intervention can be safely integrated into routine midwifery care to enhance maternal comfort during childbirth.

Abstract

Stunting affects not only physical growth but also several aspects of child development, including gross and fine motor skills. Early stimulation interventions, such as Montessori-based activities, have been proposed to enhance developmental outcomes through structured sensorimotor experiences. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Montessori-based stimulation on motor development among children with stunting and to compare its outcomes with those of conventional stimulation. A quasi-experimental study with intervention and control groups was conducted among 120 children with stunting aged 36–59 months. Participants were allocated to either a Montessori group (n = 60) or a conventional stimulation group (n = 60). The intervention was delivered over 12 weeks, three times per week, with each session lasting 60 minutes. Gross and fine motor development were assessed before and after the intervention using the Pre-Screening Developmental Questionnaire. Within-group changes were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, while between-group differences were examined using the Mann–Whitney U test. The Montessori group showed significant improvements in gross motor development (p = 0.028) and fine motor development (p = 0.003). In the conventional group, only fine motor development improved significantly (p = 0.046), whereas changes in gross motor development were not statistically significant (p = 0.144). However, no significant differences were observed between the Montessori and conventional groups in post-intervention comparisons (p > 0.05). Montessori-based stimulation may contribute to improvements in gross and fine motor development among children with stunting. However, the absence of significant between-group differences suggests that Montessori-based stimulation was not superior to conventional stimulation during the study period. Further studies with larger samples and randomized controlled designs are needed to clarify its role in supporting developmental outcomes in children with stunting.

Abstract

Inadequate breast milk production and output is one of the problems that mothers can experience during the postpartum period and can be an obstacle to optimal breastfeeding. One of the efforts empirically used by the community to help facilitate breast milk production is the consumption of herbal drinks, one of which is turmeric and tamarind. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of administering turmeric and tamarind on breast milk production in postpartum mothers. This study used a quantitative method using a pre-experimental design with an approach (One Group Pre-Post Test Design). The population in this study amounted to 24 postpartum mothers with a sample of 20 respondents. Breast milk production was measured using an observation sheet by recording the volume of breast milk in milliliters (mL) before and after administering turmeric and tamarind. Data were analyzed univariately to describe the distribution of breast milk production and bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results of the study before being given turmeric tamarind on respondents' breast milk production were 10ml-30ml, after being given turmeric tamarind on respondents' breast milk production were 60ml-85ml and there was a significant difference in respondents before being given turmeric tamarind and after being given turmeric tamarind on breast milk production (P Value = 0.000). There was a significant difference in respondents before being given turmeric tamarind and after being given turmeric tamarind on breast milk production.
