Abstract

Characterization of Myristicin isolated from nutmeg oil has been done. The study was started by isolating the nutmeg oil from the nutmeg using steam distillation for 8 hours, yield 2.40% of nutmeg oil. The isolation of myristicin from nutmeg oil by fractional distillation under reduced pressure, yield 8.02% of myristicin with 100% of purity. The purity was determinated using GC and the structure elucidation was analyzed by FTIR, 1H-NMR, and MS spectromecters

Abstract

This study aimed to determine phytochemical tests and antioxidant activity of fruit and peel extract of pisang jarum. Sample was extracted with 80% of ethanol, methanol, and acetone using reflux method. The result showed that pisang jarum extract contains phenols, flavonoids, and terpenoids, whereas peel extract contains phenols, flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, and saponins. The total phenol content (TPC) of pisang jarum is 0.0250-0.0316 mg PE/g extract and peel is 0,1756-0,2679 mg PE/g extract. The total flavonoid content (TFC) of pisang jarum is 0.8412-1.4466 mg QE/g extract and peel is 3.2128-5.1073 mg QE/g extract. The antioxidant activity of extract were analyze by DPPH free radical scavenging activity. The antioxidant activities (IC50) of pisang jarum is 1092.92-3871.24 ppm and peel is 310.08-558.07 ppm, so it is classified as a weak antioxidant

Abstract

Binahong Anredera cordifolia (Tenore) Steenis leaves contain chemical compounds that can be used as antioxidants. This study aims to examine the phytochemical and antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of binahong leaves. Binahong leaves were extracted using the maceration method with an ethanol solvent. The phytochemical test showed that the ethanol extract of binahong leaves contained phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins to have potential antioxidants. The antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH method and absorbance measurement with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 517 nm. The results showed that the ethanol extract of binahong leaves had strong antioxidant activity, as evidenced by the IC50 value of 87.423 µg/mL.

Abstract

Potensi kelautan di Maluku dapat menjadi sarana penyediaan bahan makanan yang melimpah bagi masyarakat pesisir. Kelimpahan komunitas alga merupakan salah satu kandidat yang menjadi sumber pangan bagi masyarakat pesisir. Sayur meti adalah salah satu jenis alga yang dimanfaatkan masyarakat pesisir pada Desa Liliboi, Maluku sebagai sumber makanan. Informasi tentang golongan jenis alga dan komposisi senyawa bioaktif dari sayur meti belum diketahui. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi morfologi dan menguji kandungan fitokimia senyawa bioaktif pada sayur meti dari perairan pantai Desa Liliboi. Penelitian dilakukan melalui beberapa tahapan yaitu pengamatan morfologi, ekstraksi senyawa bioaktif dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut methanol dan pengujian fitokimia senyawa bioaktif pada sayur meti dari perairan pantai Desa Liliboi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa morfologi sayur meti ini memiliki bentuk sel yang mirip dengan alga dari devisi Chlorophyta genus Ulothrix merupakan alga yang berbentuk filamen. Uji fitokimia menunjukan senyawa bioaktif yang terdapat dalam ekstrak metanol diantaranya alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, saponin, dan fenol. Ekstrak methanol memiliki kandungan flavonoid yang tergolong tinggi sebesar 506,1404 mg/L.

Abstract

The training for making Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) with the wet method has been carried out for the PKK women of Negeri Kilang, South Leitimur District, Ambon City. VCO with the wet method using liquid coconut milk as raw material. The oil from this liquid coconut milk is extracted by precipitation. After that, the oil that has been separated from water and other solids is transferred to be filtered to make it clear. The steps of this training activity are carried out in three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. In the preparatory stage, the team conducted a preliminary survey to determine the field conditions, and the place to be used; and to prepare a plan for the activities to be carried out. Next, the team prepares materials and equipment that will be used in making VCO. At the implementation stage, the team conducted counseling for PKK women by delivering material on how to make VCO and the benefits of VCO in the health sector. Then proceed with the manufacture of VCO with the wet method. In this activity, all participants were trained on how to make VCO, starting from the procedure for making coconut milk from coconuts to forming VCO. The third stage, namely the evaluation stage, is carried out to measure the level of success of the activities that have been carried out. The output produced from this activity is a creative product of coconut plants, namely VCO which has been made by women of PKK Negeri Kilang to be used daily.

Abstract

Pandemi global Covid-19 yang melanda seluruh dunia turut berdampak signifikan di bidang pendidikan. Salah satunya proses pembelajaran di tingkat SMA yang berubah dari kelas tatap muka menjadi kelas online, menyebabkan ada siswa yang kesulitan memahami pelajaran. Kurangnya pemahaman materi sebelumnya menyebabkan siswa kesulitan beradaptasi pada materi lanjutan pada saat kelas luring berlangsung, misalnya untuk pelajaran kimia. Oleh karena itu, untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman siswa-siswi SMA tentang kimia, dapat dilakukan melalui pendekatan kimia komputasi. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk menumbuhkan minat siswa-siswi SMA, sehingga lebih mengenal dan dapat mengoperasionalkan software kimia komputasi sebagai pembelajaran kimia yang menarik. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan metode ceramah dan praktek langsung bagi siswa-siswi. Ketua tim menyampaikan materi tentang pengantar kimia komputasi, aplikasi dan manfaat kimia komputasi dalam bidang sains, serta bagaimana pemodelan struktur molekul menggunakan program HyperChem dan Gaussian. Pada tahap praktek langsung, siswa dilatih mengoperasionalkan komputer dan memanfaatkaan software untuk mempelajari struktur molekul organik sederhana. Molekul etanol digambar oleh siswa menggunakan ChemSketch dan optimasi geometri menggunakan Hyperchem, sedangkan visualisasi molekul air menggunakan Gaussian. Setelah kegiatan pengabdian berlangsung, siswa-siswi SMA Negeri 2 Seram Bagian Barat lebih memahami konsep tentang struktur molekul dan lebih antusias ingin mempelajari kimia setelah penggunaan software kimia komputasi tersebut.

Abstract

Synthesis and characterization of cellulose acetate (CA) has been conducted. The cellulose used in this study was commecial a-cellulose in 92% content. All the CA products were analyzed by FTIR spectrometers. The determination of cellulose content was done using standart method of TAPPI T-203, while the determination of the degree of substitution (DS) was based on SNI 0444:2009 method. Conventional acetylation of cellulose was performed using gacial acetic acid, anhydride acetic acid, and sulfuric acid. The acetylation at 25 °C for 2.5 hours gave the DS of 1.482 and at 40 °C for 5 hours gave the higher DS 2.295.

Abstract

Kesumba keling (Bixa orellana L) has been widely used as a natural dye on lips, hair, and cloth. The red pigment in kesumba keling seeds comes from a bixin and norbixin compound which have many conjugated double bonds, so it has the potential of antioxidants. This study aims to determine the antioxidant compound and an antioxidant activity of methanol extract of kesumba keling seeds. The moisture content of kesumba keling seeds is 78.74%. The powder of kesumba keling seeds was extracted using maceration method with 80% of methanol. Phytochemical test results of methanol extract positively contained flavonoid compound. An antioxidant activity test of methanol extract of kesumba keling seeds was carried out by determining DPPH free radical deterrent activity. The absorbance measurement were made using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 517 nm. Kesumba keling seeds extract has antioxidant activity which is indicated by IC50 value of 69.425 ppm, so it is classified as a strong antioxidant.

Abstract

This research aims to isolate oil from patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth) and identify the chemical components of patchouli oil using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Patchouli plant samples were obtained from Welulu Village, Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Fresh patchouli leaves are dried in the sun for four days to a constant weight. Patchouli leaves water content is 77.41% (w/w). Dry patchouli leaves are distilled using the water and steam method for two hours. Water and oil distillates are separated using a separating funnel. Patchouli oil obtained was dried using Na2SO4 anhydrous and yield 0.73% (w/w). The results of GC-MS analysis showed that patchouli oil contained 13 chemical components compounds, namely β-patchoulene (4.56%), cedr-8-ene (1.24%), trans-caryophyllene (7.96%), α-guaiene (18.61%), seychellene (5.70%), patchoulene (2.88%), eremophilene (1.33%), azulene (8.74%), delta-guaiene (18.90%), cyclohexanone (1.10%), globulol (1.88%), veridiflorol (4.39%), and alcohol patchouli (22.7%).
