Abstract

This article discusses Malay globalization. Actually, what the Malays call is not an ethnic or ethnic community as many people today understand. It is time for Malays to collectively refine their view of Malay by building a different paradigm in a horizontal level through a not-cramped perspective of lokaism, since Malay is something that is not single (heterogeneous). In the identification and revitalization of Malay it is actually needed support from various components, both intellectuals and experts, as well as the holders and policy makers in several Malay rural countries. Thus expected the birth of a kind of strategic alliance between Malays in order to develop science and technology, politics, economics, culture, education and others. In any case, in the context of the modernity of Malay civilization that has found its identity will become more advanced as well as will be able to influence the great civilization of the world-if it can reverse the state of the hegemony into a hegemonizing culture.

Abstract

At the beginning of the conflict in the Minangkabau realm, only fellow brothers and sisters (brother conflict), fellow community members. However, this was widespread, and subsequently changed significantly with the interference of foreign powers. Foreign interference itself, basically it cannot be separated from the demands of the adat (traditional leaders or the leaders). How to explain and understand all this? Of course it's not too difficult to understand. Because, in fact with the increasing Paderi movement, many traditional leaders were eliminated, then expelled or even ran away, because they did not want to be victims of Paderi's radicaslism. Between those who fled, there were those who sought relations with foreigners, first with Raffles in Bengkulu, then also when Britain was entrenched in Padang. Next, with Du Puy in Padang when the Dutch returned to West Sumatra. The conflict of the rise of Islam in Minangkabau became increasingly complex with the influx of foreign influences - especially the Dutch, who wanted to instill power in Minangkabau. Dutch power, has become a kind of third party that plays a role in the continuation of the conflict of renewal of Minangkabau Islam. The facts above are also strengthened by various proofs of the involvement and role of the Dutch in the war against the Padrians. In addition, there was a testimony from the Dutch people themselves, who had served in the Minangkabau.

Abstract

This article in principle wants to examine the history of the emergence of the conflict of Islamic revival in Minangkabau starting from the Paderi Movement to the Youth in Minangkabau. Especially in the initial period, namely the Padri movement, there was a tragedy of violence (radicalism) that accompanied it. This study becomes important, because after all the reformation of Islam began to be realized by reforming human life in the world. Both in terms of thought with the effort to restore the correct understanding of religion as it should, from the side of the practice of religion, namely by reforming deviant practices and adapted to the instructions of the religious texts (al-Qur'an and sunnah), and also from the side of strengthening power religion. In this case the research will be directed to the efforts of renewal by the Padri to the Youth towards the Islamic community in Minangkabau. To discuss this problem used historical research methods. Through this method, it is tested and analyzed critically the records and relics of the past. In analyzing the data in this research basically used approach or interactive analysis model by Miles and Huberman. In this analysis model, the three components of the analysis are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification, the activity is carried out in an interactive form with the process of collecting data as a process that continues, repeats, and continues to form acycle.

Abstract

This essay discusses the diaspora of the Malay world. It actually resembles a nation or group of ethnics cognate that share the same religion and use the same language. In the context of modernity, it is time for Malays to collectively improve their view of Malay by building a different paradigm in the horizontal level through the not-cramped perspective of lokaism, because it is something that is not singular (heterogeneous). So, Malays can identify themselves and make a significant contribution to the global civilization scene. Within the framework of identification and revitalization of Malay, it requires support from various components, both intellectuals and experts, as well as the holders and policy makers in several Malay State nations. A further consequence is the emergence of a kind of strategic alliance between Malays in order to develop science and technology, politics, economics, culture, education and others. Thus, in the context of the modernity of Malay civilization that has found its identity will be advanced as well as will be able to influence the great civilization of the world.

Abstract

After the Portuguese were defeated by the Dutch, Islam became stronger as the religion of Malay Nusantara society. This is marked by the emergence of Palembang Sultanate. Palembang has been trading in Malacca, and trading and buying large quantities with Pahang. In terms of power, the Sultanate of Palembang applied different powers between upstream and downstream. In the upper reaches, the sultan and the royal authorities do not have the authority to levy taxes and recruit workers. In contrast to the upstream, downstream sultans and royal authorities have the authority to levy taxes and recruit workers. They also have a special kind of privilege, especially with regard to the right to control the results of trade. Trade orientation as part of the economic system, more visible to downstream communities. Downstream communities have long been tied to the world of commerce, can be traced since the kingdom of Srivijaya. The rivers in Palembang in addition to functioning as a means of connecting between upstream and downstream, as well as the source of basic life for the local community. The river actually contributes to shaping the mindset and "world view".

Abstract

Background: Adolescent mental health has become a major public health concern worldwide. Although self-esteem, family relationships, and social support are recognized as important psychosocial protective factors, evidence regarding their combined contribution to adolescent mental health in the Indonesian context remains limited. This study aimed to examine the associations of self-esteem, family relationships, and social support with mental health among high school adolescents. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 146 high school students aged 15–18 years in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, and reported in accordance with the STROBE guidelines. Participants were selected using simple random sampling. Self-esteem, family relationships, social support, and mental health were assessed using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale IV (FACES-IV), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multivariable ordinal logistic regression, with adjusted odds ratios (AORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) reported to identify factors associated with adolescent mental health. Results: Bivariate analysis indicated that gender, self-esteem, family dynamics, and social support were significantly correlated with adolescent mental health (all p < 0.05). In the multivariable ordinal logistic regression model, adolescents with low self-esteem had significantly lower odds of being in a higher mental health category compared to those with high self-esteem (AOR = 0.00004; 95% CI: 0.000001–0.002; p < 0.001). Similarly, adolescents with weak family ties had reduced chances of improved mental health compared to those with strong family ties (AOR = 0.0002; 95% CI: 0.000005–0.007; p < 0.001). Gender continued to show a significant association with adolescent mental health (AOR = 82.43; 95% CI: 3.63–1877.76; p = 0.006), while social support lost its significance after adjustment. Conclusion: Self-esteem, family relationships, and social support were significantly associated with adolescent mental health. Although they were not independent predictors in the multivariate model, these factors remain important psychosocial resources. Mental health promotion programs should target multiple psychosocial domains simultaneously, particularly within school and family environments.

Abstract

The development of Islamic education in Thailand reflects a complex dynamic shaped by historical, sociocultural, and governmental policy factors. This article aims to examine the historical background, educational system, and state policies that have influenced the existence of Islamic education, particularly in the southern provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and Satun—regions known as centers of the Malay-Muslim community. This community has long played a pivotal role in preserving Islamic traditions through the provision of religious education. Islamic education in Thailand has evolved along two main pathways: traditional pondok institutions that emphasize classical Islamic studies, and modern madrasahs that integrate religious curricula with general subjects in accordance with national education standards. Since the 1960s, the Thai government has implemented policies to modernize Islamic education as part of a broader strategy to improve educational quality and promote social integration. However, these policies have also raised concerns about potential cultural assimilation and the diminishing autonomy of Islamic educational institutions. Using a qualitative approach through a literature review method, the findings reveal that Islamic education in Thailand continues to undergo adaptation and renewal. Despite facing structural and political challenges, Islamic educational institutions remain essential in maintaining the religious identity and cultural heritage of the Muslim minority in a predominantly Buddhist nation.
