Abstract

Advances in digital technology and social media platforms have created new ways of interacting in society, especially among Generation Z, who were born and raised during the digital era. Social media not only functions as a communication tool, but also as a place to build self-image, compete for popularity, and gain social recognition. The emergence of digital hedonism can be seen through a culture of showing off, excessive consumption, and the desire to gain public exposure through viral content. This article explores the importance of Pancasila as a flexible ideology to overcome this phenomenon by linking several real examples, such as teenagers borrowing expensive items for content, young influencers displaying bank balances and cash, competition among digital creators, and prank content that harms others. These examples illustrate a decline in morals and a deviation from Pancasila values, ranging from a spiritual crisis to a loss of empathy in society. This study emphasizes that restoring Pancasila values is essential to shaping the character of Generation Z so that they do not fall into moral decline in the digital age. This recovery can be achieved through character education based on Pancasila, critical digital literacy, the role of the family, government regulations, and the strengthening of public ethical norms. Thus, Pancasila remains relevant as a moral and ideological guide that can overcome the challenges of globalization and instant culture.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the readiness and analyze the perceptions of Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED) students across various faculties regarding the implementation of Pancasila as the Basis for scientific development values (DPI) within digital ethics practices. The core problem addressed is the gap between the ideological recognition of Pancasila and the reality of behavior in cyberspace, which is susceptible to technological disruption and moral crises. A descriptive qualitative method, utilizing in-depth interviews across different faculties at UNIMED, was employed to identify the convergence and conflict of values in technology use. The research results consistently indicate that students acknowledge the urgency of Pancasila as a "moral compass" and "cultural filter", specifically highlighting the Second Sila (Just and Civilized Humanity) and Fourth Sila (Guided by Wisdom) as primary countermeasures against cyberbullying and hoax. However, a significant implementation gap (value lag) was identified, primarily driven by cultural factors such as pragmatism and the instant culture prevalent in social media. Specifically, students perceive the Fifth Sila (Social Justice) as the most challenging value to realize in online interactions due to the influence of algorithmic bias and lack of context. These findings emphasize the necessity for a reorientation of the DPI curriculum towards a more applicative and preventive approach, and the integration of transcendental ethics into technology design.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation and level of compliance of students at Medan State University (UNIMED) with the dress code and communication ethics, as well as to identify the factors that influence them, as a crucial effort in shaping character and academic culture. The method used was qualitative with a case study approach in the Department of Civic Education, Faculty of Social Sciences, UNIMED, involving data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that although students understand the importance of the code of conduct, the actual level of compliance is still situational, marked by dominant violations such as the use of casual clothing (T-shirts, jeans, flip-flops) and rude digital communication with lecturers. This low level of discipline is mainly due to inconsistent supervision, limited socialization of rules, and the strong influence of casual culture from social media. It is concluded that the success of the code of ethics requires a shift in approach from formality to continuous character building. A comprehensive strategy is needed that includes disciplinary supervision, fair sanctions, the provision of clear guidelines, and the instilling of professional values so that the code of ethics functions optimally as a guide for academic behavior.
