Abstract

Abstract Background: Digital transformation in medical education has encouraged the implementation of innovative learning methods that are more interactive and student-centered. The integration of video microlearning and gamification is considered capable of improving the effectiveness of leadership learning among medical students through a more flexible, engaging, and participatory learning experience. This study aimed to analyze the effect of integrating video microlearning and gamification on leadership knowledge among medical students. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study was conducted among fourth-semester undergraduate medical students with a total sample of 65 respondents selected using total sampling technique. The intervention consisted of short-duration microlearning videos on transformational leadership theory followed by gamification-based interactive quizzes using the Quizizz platform. Leadership knowledge was measured using a 16-item multiple-choice questionnaire that had been validated (p<0.001) and demonstrated good reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha=0.78). Data were analyzed using a paired t-test with a significance level of p<0.001. Results: Most respondents were female (72%). The findings demonstrated an increase in the mean leadership knowledge score following the intervention. The mean pretest score increased from 9.46 to 15.28 in the posttest, with a mean difference of 5.82. Statistical analysis revealed that the integration of video microlearning and gamification had a significant effect on improving leadership knowledge among medical students (p<0.001). Conclusion: The integration of video microlearning and gamification was effective in improving leadership knowledge among medical students. This technology-based learning approach has the potential to become an innovative strategy for promoting more active, interactive, and student-centered leadership learning in medical education.

Abstract

Reproductive health is a key component of family resilience, particularly for couples of reproductive age (CRA) who face increased risks of unintended pregnancy and limited access to health services during emergencies. Community-based education offers an effective strategy to strengthen reproductive health knowledge and preparedness. This community service program applied a one-group pretest–posttest design using a participatory educational approach. A total of 26 couples of reproductive age from Telaga Jaya District, Gorontalo Regency, participated in the intervention. Educational sessions covered family planning, safe pregnancy, pregnancy danger signs, and reproductive health crisis preparedness. Participants' knowledge was assessed before and after the intervention using a structured questionnaire, and the data were analyzed descriptively to determine changes in knowledge levels. The findings demonstrated a marked increase in participants' knowledge, with the average score rising from 56.4 ± 8.7 before the intervention to 82.3 ± 6.5 afterward. The greatest improvement occurred in family planning knowledge (54.0%), followed by pregnancy danger signs (47.7%), health crisis preparedness (43.2%), and safe pregnancy (42.5%). Moreover, the proportion of participants with high knowledge increased from a minority before the intervention to 70% after completion, while the percentage with low knowledge declined substantially. These results suggest that participatory education effectively enhances reproductive health literacy, promotes active learning, and strengthens family preparedness to address reproductive health challenges in underserved communities.

Abstract

Abstract

Disaster situations can disrupt food access and increase the risk of nutritional problems, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, older adults, and individuals with chronic diseases. This community service activity aimed to strengthen community preparedness through emergency nutrition education in Hutadaa Village, Talaga Jaya District, Gorontalo Regency. The activity used an educational and participatory approach through PowerPoint presentations, educational videos, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The results showed that participants were enthusiastic and actively involved, particularly in discussions about nutritious emergency foods and priority groups during disasters. The use of visual media and interactive discussion helped participants understand that nutrition fulfillment during disasters should consider not only food availability but also nutritional quality and household preparedness. This activity concludes that community-based emergency nutrition education can serve as a promotive and preventive strategy to improve community preparedness for nutritional risks during disasters.

Abstract

Older adults experience a decline in physiological function that increases their risk of various health problems, including infections resulting from inadequate genital hygiene and limited ability to perform self-health screening. Low health literacy further reduces their capacity for self-care, highlighting the need for community-based educational interventions to improve their quality of life. This community service program aimed to enhance older adults’ knowledge of genital hygiene, infection prevention, self-health screening, and early detection of disease warning signs. The program employed a one-group pretest–posttest design using a participatory educational approach. A total of 15 older adults aged 60 years and above in Gorontalo City were purposively selected as participants. Data were collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire and analyzed descriptively and comparatively. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge across all indicators, with the mean score increasing from 55.2 ± 8.4 on the pretest to 82.8 ± 6.2 on the posttest, representing a 49.5% improvement. The greatest increase was observed in genital hygiene (51.6%), followed by self-health screening (50.6%), recognition of disease warning signs (49.7%), and infection prevention (48.2%). Knowledge distribution shifted from predominantly low (60.0%) to high (73.3%), while the reduced standard deviation indicated more evenly distributed knowledge among participants. These findings suggest that participatory health education is effective in improving health literacy and supporting healthy aging.
